How about picking up Richie Incognito?
The Rams released Incognito today, after a series of Transgression against the team. He picked up two personal foul penalties on Sunday and today he saw the door.
Surprisingly one of our areas exposed by Defenses is the interior of the offensive line. Incumbent starter Ben Hamilton has been benched in favor of Russ Hochstein, and Casey Wiegmann is a shadow of what he was last year.
I like this because it frees up Hochstein for FB for those short yardage situations.
Incognito is a big guy (the style that McDaniels like) and is young. Hopefully coming to a winning franchise in the playoff hunt will change his tune and mesh up well.
What do you guys think?

With a last name like "Incognito" he'd probably fit right in the Wall of Silence.
Now where did that Kool-Aid vendor go?

Indeed.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

I just saw the story and wondered the same thing

In a word . . . no.
As a resident of an area that gets to see the Rams, like, just about every week . . . I get to see this guy play often. And a guy who can’t block but CAN pick up personal foul penalties consistently (be it reputation or not) does not fit on a winning team.
Xanders . . . McDaniels . . . Mr. Bowlen . . . if you read this site, please understand it clearly . . . DO NOT SIGN RICHIE INCOGNITO!!!!!
One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.
But...
Maybe the Broncos need a guy who really knows how to headbutt a player after the whistle. You can’t have too many of those guys….
Now where did that Kool-Aid vendor go?
enforcer of the pre-lockout NHL days
one of those guys that got 400 penalty minutes and 100 points in a season? I think those were the bench marks…

I think teams rarely release players just because of character issues.
That was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Maybe he's dirty because he plays for the Rams
A lot of dirty play is from frustration of losing. I’m talking to you Richard Seymour. No excuse for Hines Ward, He’s just a punk.

No, Richie Incognito is a dirty player . . .
because he’s not good. It’s hard to justify keeping a guy around whose sole job is to block, and he can’t even do THAT well. I’m actually shocked he lasted as long as he did with the Rams.

Isn't it a bit late
To inject a player into the line who’s a character risk and would need to learn this system? I’d say no on character alone.

Character risk?
Ohhhh yeah …. like Brandon Marshall! Not into the labels, everyone has an individual story to tell. Some just need a little bit of inspiration – others need the boot. Gotta take them one at a time. Having just lost Harris someone at depth would be very welcome. Leave it to McD to decide if he can work with this guy (prob not).
Marshall has issues
yet since Rod Smith has been in his ear, he’s been a model citizen. Notwithstanding, when all his crap went down this summer I wouldn’t have missed him should he have been traded.

Which was my point
I also recall the case of Romanoski – the dritiest player of his day. All the siants are in sunday school. We need hard hitting emotional guys – what we cannot handle are ‘selfish’ guys that disrupt the team or cannot work within the system cuz they are too good for that.
How many guys do we bring in that need mentoring

Can't seem to find him
Okay last time I make that joke. Nah we need to fix our interior line long term through the draft and smart FA acquisitions. I am high on Jon Asamoah from Illinois. He’ll be available in 2nd or 3rd round and fits our system, but anchors pretty well which McDaniels has said he is looking for.

Question to all those who say no to "character" issues
Do you not feel our locker room is stable enough to handle Richie Incognito? Do you not feel our coaching staff is capalbe of controlling an offensive lineman?
Come on now, if anyone becomes too much of a headache, they are shown the door (Cutler) or have to stand and face the corner of a wall (Marshall).
Let’s all drop this notion that our team cannot handle a “character” issue guy, especially an offensive lineman.
My issue with his "character"
is mostly that he seems to cost his team 15 yds a little too often. I know the standard response would be to bench him, so why sign a guy who you have to bench because he can’t keep it together on the field?
Now where did that Kool-Aid vendor go?
Let's drop the character issue for just a second.
And talk about the fact that I’ve seen this guy on a constant basis since he entered the league (the “advantages” of being a Broncos fan in the St. Louis area . . . meh), and he COULDN’T BLOCK A FRUIT BAT IF HE TRIED!
Sure, there’s character issues, and maybe they would have to be addressed. But there’s also the issue of WILL HE DO HIS JOB? He never proved it in St. Louis, and I shudder at the thought of him playing for MY team and being thrust into a role he, as an NFL player, SHOULD be able to perform, but can’t because he’s incapable.
One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.
That was the theory with Javon Walker and Travis Henry.
Our veteran character guys — Plummer, Wilson, Rod — would keep those two in line. We all know how well they — and even our Sourbunned punter — worked out.
Incognito smacks of ’roid rage to me. Let the Chargers have that crap.

agreed with ncm42
my question would be, why would you bring guys in that have problems to then “show them the door” or have them “face the corner of a wall” Doesn’t seem like a positive addition when you have to have those options “at the ready”
He not only did those two bone headed penalties which were out of line, but then had the audacity to argue with his coach on the sidelines afterwards about it. Doesn’t smell like a positive addition to the team that would have to require team members shaping him up.

Great point...and we need a 318 pb huard and effects nothing we do on the draft. I would be pissed every day ypp f I played for the Rams!

I believe Incognito is going to be a Free Agent
pulling him in now would be an extremely shortsighted plan, but it has its merits. Personally i don’t think Denver is interested ins igning someone who isn’t depth right now, but he might be open to that kind of signing, if he believed he could work his way into the lineup in only a week or two.
Overall the move sounds like a major chemistry and roster manipulation. I don’t seeing it providing equitable value for the risk…

Since we already have
O-Linemen who know how to pick up penalties, why would you want another?

There has to be a reason a 1-12 team cut a starting guard
He has 4 personal fouls this yr, and has been on thin ice with Spagnulo and it came to a head on Sunday. He is a POS, not too mention he played at Nebraska- need I say more?

Yes
And, if I remember correctly, was kicked off the team at Nebraska for—drum roll, maestro—those ol’ “character” issues. Speculation prior to the draft was that he was seriously hopped up on roids, and he’s done nothing in the NFL to disprove that. Let’s leave this guy on the street…

Let's not go after another teams fodder,
broncofanstuckinsd is right; there is a reason a bad team let him go. Seems to me the QB’s of the Rams would probably say no as well. He can not block or pass protect and costs his team dearly with his actions resutting not just in persaonal fouls but miscues as well…….no not on the Broncos.

Not saying to take him
But rather we should take a pass on him if he does not fit our team. Don’t dismiss him for the wrong reasons. How many of our current starters were let go by their former teams? Kyle was ‘let go’ by CHI cuz he could not get them to the playoffs …… the fact that a lesser team does not know how to use a player does not mean the player is not valuable. I Incognito a valuable player? I assume by the fact Dove Valley has said nothing that his value you us is minimal.
Don't disagree
that the Broncos should be evaluating players who are let go by other teams and you know they do. But, the Rams line has been horrid for several years now and needs a fresh start. Incognito really doesn’t look that good IMO nor has be played well. RKK also brought to light his issue started while he was at Nebraska. Not saying he couldn’t become successful, but right now it sure doesn’t look that way.

Both Buffalo and Miami put a claim on him, but he goes to Buffalo cuz they suck more than Miami

The only time when this has worked...
is when the Pats brought in Randy Moss. And he was a proven talent. And now they’re seeing what happens when you don’t go 16-0 in the regular season—Moss’s character issues surface (dogging routes, etc.). ‘Character issues’ has always been a tag that I think is way over-applied, and should only apply in cases like this—where they demonstrate questionable judgment on the field. That’s not something locker-room leadership can fix. That’s not something that I think you can fix at all. The only band-aid you can put over it is winning.
