Stokely's Catch and Run!

Stokely's Catch and Run!

Since the Broncos had to settle for another field goal after Stokley's catch and run had set up 1st and goal it is too bad Stokley couldn't reach the end zone. It looked to me like Stokley cradled the ball with both hands toward the end of the play to keep from fumbling but in doing so it caused him to slow down and that is probably what kept him from crossing the goal line. It would have been a moot point if the Broncos had scored a touchdown in the next 3 plays but since they didn't Stokley not being able to get in and clinch a win looms as a huge play not just for today but the whole season. I guess the "Football Gods" thought that since Stokely had the "Immaculant Deflection" against Cincy they wouldn't let him outrun the Raiders all the way to the endzone today but I still think Stokley would have scored if he hadn't lost some speed when he put both hands on the ball to prevent fumbling. There are a lot of reasons we lost today but the Stokley catch and run and not scoring on the play sticks out to me more than anything. I feel about as bad tonight as I did after the Buffalo game last season. Maybe we can bounce back and win in Philly and beat KC to still make the playoffs but a playoff spot is really up the air now.
