Worst Loss Ever? Hardly...
Now, I know this one was a very rough loss. I realize that the Raiders are a terrible team. I realize that we probably shouldn't lose to them. I realize that people are upset with McD's playcalling, and no Hillis, and because X and Y and etc. and whatever.
I've heard the phrase "This team doesn't deserve to go to the playoffs" tossed around quite a bit after reading some of these posts and comments and what not. What is the basis for that? The fact of the matter is that this team is currently in position to make the playoffs. We have the inside track to making the postseason. What is with the negativity?
Ive always been of the belief that you stick with what got you there. So far, we have gotten to this winning record behind the playcalling of McD with the defense of Nolan and the quarterbacking of Orton. Are we going to trash what gave us 8 wins with 2 games left in the season? I don't think so. The team didn't execute today as well as the raiders did. It isn't because it's broken, it is because, for whatever reason, we didn't play to the potential that we know we have.
When I am reading the posts on MHR, I am seeing all kinds of new posters that I don't recall ever seeing making ridiculously negative statements about everything. People are VASTLY overreacting to this loss, in my opinion. Really. If you don't believe that the broncos deserve to make the playoffs, call or email the NFL and let them know you want their playoffs changed so that we can't make it in. As it currently stands, we are on pace to be in the playoffs. We still control our own destiny. That's all you can ask for at this point in the season.
I expect lots and lots of negativity from this post. Bring it on. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me. The Broncos are still on the inside track to make the playoffs and if you think they don't deserve it because of this one loss, fine. Don't watch them in january when they play in the wildcard round. I know I'll be watching, anyways.

No negativity from my end
However, this team is on the outside looking in at this point. If they want to make the playoffs, they are going to have to really play hard and stop screwing off. I don’t know what got me more fired up today, the horrendous execution or the terrible play calling. In any event, McD and his team got us this far, I’m willing to see what the rest of the season brings. I am no longer expecting anything better than 8-8. It’s not a spiteful thing, it’s a realistic thing. If this team lays down for the raiders, then I don’t feel comfortable saying KC is a definite win either.

My thoughts exactly. Losing to the Redskins and raiders in one season just makes me sick.
It takes neither courage nor intelligence to cheer for a team only when that team wins. The true test of a fan's mettle is the same as it is for a player: Were you there when you were needed?
I definitely agree
I did say that they didn’t deserve it in a comment, but that was a kind of knee-jerk reaction that after thought, i wouldn’t have said. I am positive from 1 hour after a loss to the next loss. I just overreact when i watch my team do that badly. We really need to look at the big picture and it looks very good, especially compared to what many expected of the team before the season. We CAN beat Philly and KC, i believe that. I am ready for some Broncos playoff football!! If we lose in Wild Card week, at least we know that we have a bright future ahead of us, for sure.

This loss was the pits, but going 2-6 in their past 8 isn’t exactly sprinting to the finish line either now, is it? How is this team any different than last year’s again, other than maybe a better D and more anemic offense? They are still choking when it counts. God today sucked. And we still have the most brutal red zone offense in the league.

I can say this team isn't the same.
This is 2009. Just because the Broncos have sputtered in the last 8 games doesn’t mean they will drop their last 2 games like the 2008 Broncos would. You can’t base this year’s team results off of last year’s team results. The two teams are completely separate entities.

But of the last 3, wouldn’t you agree that today’s was one of two must and definitely should wins? You really think this team has a prayer in Philly? Playing like this? All this team had to do to have a reasonably good shot at the playoffs was beat two dogshit division rivals at home, Oakland and KC. They failed miserably today. Just like last year’s team did down the stretch.

I would agree that.
I do think we can Beat Philly. You have to look at the matchups. Even on paper we don’t matchup well against the Raiders but we do against the eagles. The raiders have a stout secondary and try and snuff out the run with their front seven. They are a very physical team and can run on anybody. They’ve beaten some good teams, so it’s not like we lost to the bucs or the lions, by any means. They are a tough physical football team and when they eliminate mistakes, they can beat a lot of teams.
The eagles have a porous secondary and can be beaten on any play. If you saw the Giants game you could see. They had three straight long balls and the first two were dropped through the hands of Nicks and the third was for a long TD. The eagles corners are eager to jump routes and they are burned very easily because they gamble so much.
If we can shut down DeSean Jackson and use our speed to counter their wildcat formation and whatever other loopy McNabb/Vick formation they use, we should be fine.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

haha, funny story behind that.
We have a county named Bourbon County, where they make the bourbon. The interesting thing is that bourbon county is a dry county. Makes you wonder….

Porous secondaries
Do not matter to this Broncos team. Even porous secondaries stop the bronco pass offense cuz they know that we only pass short so can play close and attack at the moment a pass is shown. I don’t know why we don’t fake that short pass, draw the db in, and then go deeper

I think this team has a prayer in Philly......
Not if our Oline gets dominated like they did today, but we’re as good as last year’s team with a much tougher schedule.
Last year’s team would not have beaten NE, NYG, DAL, etc. and would’ve been completely blown out by Indy. Yesterday was a tough loss, but they Raiders have put up some wins against other solid teams, including Philly.
This is 2009. Just because the Broncos have sputtered in the last 8 games doesn’t mean they will drop their last 2 games like the 2008 Broncos would. You can’t base this year’s team results off of last year’s team results. The two teams are completely separate entities.
Sure I can, and what have I seen this year to make me not think they will do the same thing they’ve done for the last four years? There is a culture of choking in December brewing, and if I can see it as a fan, you better damn well believe the players and coaches can see and feel the same thing.
Your argument can go both ways, anyway. Even looking at the 2009 Broncos objectively, they have shown me nothing that makes me believe they can win the next two games.
Then you haven't been watching

Opinions are like......, Well anyway, this is mine.
They played with no fire....it was WORSE than last year. i expect more out of team with veterenas like Champ and Dwkins. THIS LOSS WAS THE PITS. EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR AND A BIG GOOSE EGG. PATHETIC!

Plainng to virtually tie up a plau off spot late in the season. Not worse? We were also playing with VETERAN leaders in this game. This was a way worse performance on so many levels.

Rec'd, good post
I think this team got off to a great start because no one knew what to expect. By the time the bye came around there was enough film to game plan against the Broncos. So, they have struggled, but they have not quit!
To me that has been the real difference in this team. Say what you want about the play calling, ineffective play etc… I agree it hurts to watch sometimes, again but I see promise and look forward to watching this team get better and better.
As for the play calling, I remember Reeves doing the same thing and he was around for years.
Go Broncos!!

what’s up with all the fools who have come out of the woodwork and created their MHR posts for such a time as this? As far as playoffs go...
I’m also tired of hearing the ‘we don’t deserve to make the playoffs.’ If we don’t deserve to be there why are we ranked ahead of all the teams that aren’t ‘in’ right now. Also the people who would rather not go for fear of being blown out once we do make it.
After hours of late-night lab work after the game, I"ve come up with a formula that explains how I feel about the matter…..simply put:
Playoffs > No Playoffs
This is a team that has shown it won’t get blown out (we’ve already defeated 3 of the AFC division champs this year) and even if we did, the experience for the younguns would be worth it.

Raiders
The Raiders seem to play hard against good teams. Their wins have been against teams with a combined 37-33 record while their losses have been against teams with a 56-54 record.
Just saying that the Raiders are not a push-over team, just very inconsistent.
Very good point

8-6 is great and there are no worrries Kentucky,
just disappointment in the way the team played yesterday on offense and defense. Play calling was suspect too. Since the Steelers and Ravens won their games we must win out to make the playoffs, we can’t depend on either of them to lose and I doubt very seriously if they will.
I project this team to go 8-8 if they play like they did yesterday.
No doubt, bfree
And I know you’re a die hard, true blue and orange fan. But what if they play like they did against the Giants or KC? I’m just saying, it can go either way. I wish other “fans” on here would have a little bit of faith and perspective.

That is very true Rocky and my sentiments exactly.
This team is capable of beating anybody even Indy and I wouldn’t be surprised if they do beat them if we make it to the playoffs. What amazes me is the Bi-Polar type of personality this team has. One week they play like the butt hairs are on fire and then the very next week they play like they are having Martinis on the sideline. Unfreaking believable.
Agree with most of that
Except the only game in January that you’ll probably be watching is the Chiefs game.

haha, but on a serious note, I agree with you. I’m all for people jumping in and joining MHR and posting their opinion, but I am not for people jumping in and joining MHR just to say things like “Fire McD” and “the broncos don’t deserve the playoffs” and so on and so forth, without providing context or explanation along side it.
This is an emotional game and there are emotional losses. It is tough to go through losses like we suffered on sunday, but sometimes we just need to take a step back and really look at the situation we are in. We are still in the playoff hunt and we still control our own destiny.
To put it in perspective, our expectations were very low in August. At this point, I’m very excited at where we are. I’ll be upset if we miss the playoffs, sure, but I will still be able to hold my head up high if things don’t turn out well because we are much higher than I thought we’d be at this point. Sometimes we all need to put things in perspective when we are about to make a bold or emotional statement. I know that I certainly do.
Gosh, walter. Again, I find myself deep into a reply for something you’ve said. Why is that? haha

Silver Lining
I was at the game yesterday and kept saying, we aren’t putting these guys away, and that concerns me to no end. So, we let one of the games we should have won get away and put our playoff hopes in jeopardy. When we lost, it felt like that Buffalo home game all over again.
I’ve been trying to get my brain around how we could have possibly lost 6 of the last 8 games, and why, oh why, a loss to the Raiders at home. I kept thinking, is there a silver lining? Yesterday, my answer was repeatedly NO!! However, it’s a new day, and maybe it goes like this -
Dawk does another player’s meeting, we pull things together and win in Philly. This is not a game many had us winnning, and in a way could serve as a make up for the Raider loss. Then, we carry that momentum and solid play into the K.C. game, and then into the playoffs. In other words, maybe in some strange way, this forces that “Broncos against the World” thing that worked so well early on. I’m not trying to be overly simplistic, because I think we all see some real fundamental problems afoot. However, I’m hoping there IS a silver lining in here somewhere, and we emerge better for yesterday’s dreaful loss!
Great perspective
And things like this happen every year for a number of teams. Maybe this year it’s us. And maybe not. But either way, I still feel this team is miles ahead of last year’s team. Even if we don’t win our final two games (which would SUCK), I still like the overall direction and future of this team. Can’t say I felt the same about last year’s team.
In any case, great points and thanks for providing a positive viewpoint on what we hope will become a silver lining loss.
Go Broncos!

That was the most humiliating game they ever played for sure.

Agreed
Any time you lose when you are favored to win is bad. Yesterday was bad. But when you lose in the Super Bowl to a team you would beat three out of four times that is the worst ever. In this case, tied with the Giants SB. Sometime it’s hard to be a Broncs fan.
Precious and priceless!
Can you believe we may very well may have another repeat of last year? denied the playoffs at the hands of the raiders! slip up in the next two games and that will be the case!
This will be one of my all time favs! A game we were not supposed to have a chance
and come in as double digit dogs! I love the despair and doubt that now runs ramped
through broncoland. Call us a shity team all you like but with wins against bengals
eagles and steelers in pittsburg, plus we come in missing key players and still get it done……….never count your chickens.
in the end it’s a 3 game swing at the end of the year that can make or break you. If we benched Jabusto week 3 we could very well have made playoffs this year with Bradkowski.
Those early
SB appearances were very hard. I think the redskins was the worst but that is because I was surruounded by ‘skins’ fans. The Giants was probably the worst though. Thank God for two in a Row!!! John Ended his Career With Style and Class. I willl Love Him (Man Crush) Forever and will always cherish those SB wins!!!!!
