Tie Breakers
Ok, rather than look back at the loss, I'm looking forward to the wins. If we end up 9-7 we're going to need a little help getting into the playoffs. We need to beat the chiefs to get conference record tiebreakers. Looking ahead, here are the teams we want to lose:
Bengals 9-5
Patriots 9-5
Ravens 8-6
Titans 7-7
Steelers 7-7
Dolphins 7-7
Jaguars 7-7
Jets 7-7
texans 7-7
Current tiebreakers within the conference:
Ravens over Broncos
Steelers over Broncos
Broncos over Bengals
Broncos over Patriots
Week 16 pertinent games:
11-3 bolts over titans 7-7 (yes, it pains me to say, but they've already clinched the division, so them beating the titans helps our cause)
7-7 texans over 7-7 Dolphins
8-6 Ravens over steelers 7-7
9-5 patriots over Jauars 7-7 (if patriots lost out, we'd have the tiebreaker over them, but I don't see that happening, thus, it'd be better if they beat the jags.)
14-0 Colts over Jets 7-7
3-11 KC over Bengals 9-5
Week 17 pertinent games:
cleveland over jacksonville
Patriots over texans
miami over pittsburgh (if miami loses to the texans in week 16, we'd have the conference record tiebreaker)
bengals over jets (if bengals lost out, we'd have the tiebreaker over them, but I don't see that happening so it's probably better they beat the jets)
seahawks over titans
oakland over baltimore
Also for the NFL Draft what helps us? We want teams at the bottom of the barrel to win their games so that Chicago rises further to the top of the draft.
Week 16
5-9 raiders over Browns 3-11
5-9 Seattle over Packers 9-5
2-12 bucs vs saints 13-1 (irrelavent)
6-8 Carolina over 7-6 Giants
6-8 49ers over detroit 2-12
st. louis vs Arizona (irrelevant)
4-9 redskins over cowboys 9-5
12-2 Vikes over bears 5-9
Week 17
buffalo over colts
philli vs dallas (irrelevant, but if philli beats us, then dallas over philli out of spite)
Detroit over chicago
Atlanta over Tampa
Carolina over NO
San Fran over St. Louis
Giants over Minn
GB vs. Ariz. irrelevant
Redskins over SD
All this being said, I'm a homer, so I don't care how the Broncos get into the playoffs. Granted, I'd prefer it if we got in on our own merits and controlled our own destiny. However, I'd rather get a few lucky breraks and get in than not get in at all. Like Rod Smith once said and I don't remember the exact quite, but it went soemthing like this:
"We're just playing to get into the playoffs. Once you're in, anything can happen, but if you don't make the playoffs, then you don't even have a chance at all. You got to get into the playoffs first."
GO BRONCOS!!!

Is that true?

According to this, if the dolphins win both of their remaining games they’ll be 9-7 with a conference record of 7-5, same as our 7-5 (assuming we beat KC as I indicated). I don’t know how the next tiebreaker plays out.
But if that’s true, then we need to worry about Jacksonville the most. If they win both of their games, and we lose one of ours, they’re in. Then we need to worry about the Jets and the Dolphins, but not the Titans or the texans. The strength of victory tiebreaker is too time consuming for me to calculate right now. Maybe I’ll do it later when I’ve got more time.
GO BRONCOS!!!
The next step
The next step under this scenerio is common opponents were both Miami and Denver would be tied at 2-3. the next step is strength of victories were Denver leads right now 60-66 to 57-69

Thanks for the refocus and optimism
BUT this team isn’t good enough for the playoffs. When Rod made that quote he was talking about an eventual 12-4 team that won the Super Bowl. Sure, anything can happen, and actually getting in the playoffs would be a HUGE step for a rebuilding year. But, man, a team that loses to Oakland the way they did with everything on the line and AT HOME shouldn’t be in the playoffs.

I had the same thought vincerelli
I guess getting to the playoffs would be great and all…but what can we really expect from this team when they get there? Can they beat NE, CIN, SD, or INDY? I know they’ve already beat 3 of those teams…and playing them a second time might give us a little edge…but the Broncos have no consistency. I simply don’t trust them. To lose to the Raiders at home…that just breaks my heart and my confidence in this team.
Someone give me something to be encouraged about if/when we make the playoffs!!

They
also beat the Raiders early this year, and SD knocked us around a bit the second time around.
Wish I could encourage you. My concern now is with all these problems on the O-line we’re going to have to spend a lot of time and effort during off season fixing these holes I think Broncos Country didn’t expect. This could hurt us in other areas.
So let’s hope McD is the genius he looked like early (wow, Chicago’s #1 instead of ours is looking nice right now) and we can put everything together next year.
But I’m beat. All this end-of-the-decade talk has me thinking about how frustrating it has been to be a Broncos fan for the last ten years.

Tie breakers with7-7 clubs
Assuming Denver beats KC. Denver Wins over Houston and Tennessee based on conference records. Denver losses to Jacksonville based on conference records. Denver loses to Pittsburgh based on head to head. Denver and both Miami and the Jets comes down to quality wins. Right now Denver leads Miami and is behind the Jets.
Denver loses to Kansas City and beat Philiadelphia. They lose tie breakers Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Miami, and the Jets. The tie break with Houston goes to Strength of victories which Denver would win.

Correction
Under both circumstances Jets sin tie break based on common victories.
