McDaniels, a pedigree or street mutt!
How about the Aurora housewife who asked “Coach McDaniels, where is your pedigree, you seem more like a street mutt”. She went on to state that McDaniels said, “we do not draft players to be cut”. First player cut was 7th round OL Schuetler.
Not one 2009 drafted player makes an impact. All five first day players have done just OK. Only Moreno ‘looks’ good because he is force feed the ball, but the running offense is only rated at 14. All choices have been on the inactive list.
We must thank Coach McDaniels and Owner Bowlen for bringing in defensive head coach Mike Nolan because he brought Ron Fields with him. Nolan also wanted coaches Nunnley, Martindale, and Donatell. Nolan’s philosophy is to defend from the DB’s to the DL. “tight coverage, to give DL time to harass the QB”. This philosophy has worked well since they got FA’s Goodman, Dawkins, and Hill. But there is no nickel or dime player.
BUT the NE way or players have not worked in the West. A 5th for Smith who can not break the lineup. A 7th for Hochstein who coach plays over Hamilton or 4th rounder Olsen, but the offense is worse. And Jordan who is really a waste but coach plays over Hillis. And tackle Gorin who is on the inactive list each week. Cut Jack Williams and sign retired Ty Law who then gets hurt. OH wait, one NE player is worth the money Jabar Gaffney.
Here are other players of note; Brandon Lloyd who is on inactive every game. Darryl Reid who gets penalties about every game. So why did they keep Jarvis Moss?
Yes I can see a list of players heading to Washington. Like Scheffler, Hillis, Larsen, Dumervil, Kuper, and Moss. OH ya Marshall for the money Snyder will put out.
So yes, Aurora housewife, you have a better eye then the pundits of the weekly Bronco news.

I hope your Christmas has been otherwise merry!!!
As it seems you don’t get much joy out of the Denver Broncos.

Yeah, wow. Not much of a joyous post....
But some points are valid, though the arguments lack substance. Strong evidence exists to refute many of these points, however.
On the first point: “We don’t draft players to cut them.” No, we draft them so they develop or compete. And we trust the coach to be able to strike the balance and decide which players are not the best at either development or competition, or both, and we trust the coach to cut them. No, he doesn’t draft in order to cut. But he cuts when he realizes it’s the best choice in his estimation. Sticking tirelessly to a draft pick would indicate stubbornness, or arrogance, both attributes McDaniels has been derided for possessing. In fact, in another point the poster makes, McD sticks to Moreno though his running is apparently ineffective. So which is it? Is McD supposed to stick to his guns or change when things don’t work? Be consistent.
On to the point about Moreno, read many of the fine articles on MHR. You’ll find a significant share of opinion believes most of Moreno’s problems stem from the fact that he is being stifled by poor gap blocking in the O-line.
Regarding the rest of the draft class, be patient. It takes a few years to evaluate talent in most cases. This applies to your point about Smith. Hochstein, Hamilton, nor Olsen are great. Maybe Olsen WILL be, but we can’t tell yet. How much more could we pick up in FA besides the secondary monsters we got? If you expect McDaniels to fix EVERYTHING in one offseason, you have some pretty high standards. I’d say that we are in a strong position going forward.
The one point that a Monday morning QB can make is the JMFW for Ty Law trade. The injury validates the idea that that was a mistake to an extent. However, Law has not been injured long, his injury isn’t severe, and he was a KNOWN commodity for McD. Really, no one knows what outcomes would have occurred if Jack Williams were in there instead of Law. Plays may have been missed or made. We’ll never know. But the truth is, McD is the guy getting paid to make those decisions, and the only Monday morning QB that matters is Pat Bowlen. So, for my money, McD is making the right changes until Bowlen says he’s not.
Pedigree? He HAS the pedigree: Coach’s son. Never been involved in a losing team. Super bowl rings. Developed the QB and called plays for the dynasty of the decade, and called the plays in an 18-1 season. Mentored by BB.
Street Mutt? They can be good, too. Look at Mike Tomlin. He came out of nowhere. Hell, for that matter, look at Shanahan!
We choose our course in life. On most of the items the poster mentions, the jury is still out for me. We’ll see. I choose to stay positive.

The Grinch who stole Christmas?
I’ve got a gut feeling that Miss Aurora doen’t know very much about footbal and DL you shouldn’t saddle along side of her thinking she does. McD in all hopes made a statement about not cutting a drafted player is probably more true than not. We don’t know the circumstances involved in the releasing of Schlueter only him and the coach know that. One thing for sure is, that Schleuter was a prospect of draft day. He may have quit on his own, we don’t know what happened there. The issues with Moss go deeper than most realize, going back to his college days illness. Why Shanahan took a chance on him in the first round knowing his condition is perplexing to say the least, only Shanahan knows that. When he quit on the team back in Training Camp he would have been gone and I would have kept Pedescleau (sp?) on the active squad. Again, we can’t undermind the coaches in their decision to field the best players they have. The coach in his rookie year with all the changes to the team has been outstanding. Miss Aurora sounds like a soccer mom to me.
Pedigree?
I didn’t hear about some housewife’s feelings on football, but this is a bad joke. McD was raised in a very successful football house, did nothing but win throughout his career and has an impeccable pedigree. Why not complain about something rational?

Thanks
Here is what I took from Aurora, why does Coach McDaniels stay consistent to running off-guard when it has not worked all year.
I too see a big question there.
My reply would be that we all thought he would analyst what does not work and change to another option. And no I do not mean just change backs. How about counters or power left/right or even swing pass or the trap pass.
But it does seem like when it is 3-1 or 4-1, it has always been off-guard. Other teams see the film so it is easy to scheme against.
Playoffs are still in view.
Interesting Post...sure to get some comments
Regarding pedigrees, everyone knows the show dogs look really good, but their gene pools are shallow and the true mutt dogs are the most versatile—like McD likes in his players.
If Marshall goes to Washington, I think we’ll get a 1st and a 3rd under that scenario, wouldn’t we? Hard to replace, but that pill could be swallowed.
