Watching the incomparable Ndamukong Suh last night, I got to thinking-- what if our Oline struggles are caused by not their size, but their height and wingspan?
I haven't looked into this too thoroughly, but if there's enough interest, I was going to see if the average height of a defender has increased in the last few years. As we all know, Dumervil is a short lineman with incredible wingspan, and that gives him leverage. Maybe our blockers are being kept at bay by the ever growing tentacles of new defensive linemen? Jarvis Moss is 6 foot 7 (Holliday and McBean are both 6' 5"), and the only linemen that are that tall are tackles, who aren't specifically creating a surge in a dive play. Most of our guards and centers on the roster are 6' 2 or 6' 4". That's a lot of inches to give away in the trenches.
Just some food for thought.
