Horse Tracks 2/19/09
DENVER POST
After their initial roster cleanings, Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders are embarking on their first trip to the Combine together.
Woody Paige offers his latest blueprint for the Broncos' offseason.
Next, Woodrow offers these opinions in his mailbag - Denver won't totally miss the Goodman's and their drafting skills, nor will they regret casting off Anthony Alridge.
The structure of Boss Bailey's contract suggest he'll be sticking around. Additionally, Xanders is likely to add to the existing scouting staff and bring in some competition for Matt Prater.
Jim Armstrong thinks McDaniels and Xanders are moving in the right direction, although the consequences of their roster purge means a longer time line for success.
Brian Xanders has joined a growing group of GMs who cut their teeth under the tutelage of Rich McKay.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS
In case you missed it yesterday, Rasizer and Legwold answered some questions regarding candidates for restructure, the current running back depth chart, compensatory picks and the salary cap.
*Afternoon update* Legwold discusses the implications for the Broncos of paying so many now-former employees and players in 2009.
OTHER
DeWayne Robertson considers himself a viable replacement for Albert Haynesworth, should he leave Tennessee.

Horse Tracks Should Link to Rocky
NYCBronx, if you’re doing Horse Tracks from here on out, I’d like to put in a plug for linking to Jeff Legwold at the Rocky Mountain News (for as long as the paper continues to exist). His mailbag in particular is an excellent combination of good information and analysis of on-field performance. He’s heads-and-tails above the other beat writers in town.
Here’s a linke to the most recent mailbag: http://blogs.rockymountainnews.com/broncos/archives/2009/02/broncos_inbox_f_9.html
I won’t miss Rocky’s soft news coverage or caveman politics, but its coverage of the Broncos is just awesomely specific and detailed.
Wow, my bad
Sorry — just embarrassing on my part. This is what happens to your brain when you begin the day by crunching numbers for six hours straight.
My bad, my bad.
My brain is fried as well. :)
Is there such a thing as a Playstation 3 Anonymous? I can't seem to stop thinking about or playing COD 4 and COD 5. I hear this is quite normal for a teenager, but I haven't been a teenager since Bill Clinton was frolicking with interns.
not cause you crunch numbers though!

If only we could go knock back a cold one after work
And talk about things that mattered instead of hearing about the wretched Cubs….
Hey, it's February!
Hope springs eternal, no? My Metsies are undefeated, and they haven’t blown a big division lead this year. Yet.

RMN seems to be writing less and less these days about the Broncos.

Asomugha's deal is done...
It’s a “6-year” deal with $28.5 million guaranteed over the next two seasons…

It's only a 3 year deal. (in fact it's actually a 2 year deal and then a one time Franchise me or not payment/year)

Interesting stuff....
Now Trotter is reporting that Asomugha’s deal will void after 2 years unless Oakland pays him $16.8 million or the going franchise rate for a quarterback, whichever is higher. If they do not pick up that third year, they cannot franchise him at all…

Well, now Schefter says
it’s the cornerback rate, not the quarterback rate. Can these MSM idiots get their stories straight?!?!?!

I was watching NFL Network's coverage on the comine today,
and Dukes, Schefter, and Steve Wyche were discussing if Vick would be able to return for the 2009 season. The consensus seemed to be that he would play for someone in 2009 and Jamie Dukes indicated that Kansas City was a likely place for Vick to end up. He was listing teams that might be interested in Vick and after Dukes mentioned KC he said “wink, wink”. Not sure exactly what that means but I thought it was interesting.
I am the eggman...they are the eggman...I am the Mermaid...Goo Goo Gajoob!!!
Woody Paige doesn't know what the hell he is talking about...
"I am not one of those who think that coming in second or third is winning." -- Robert F. Kennedy
and he's at least a day behind everyone...
talking about the Broncos signing Asomugha and Otogwe a day after everyone knew they would both be signed or franchised. Why is he still a sportswriter?
