How can we do worse???
I have heard quite a bit about how Denver will win 3-6 games next year. How??? Our offense in still in place and will improve with age and a new coaching regime. I hear because we cut 5 starters from defense we will be disaterous. We were terrible on D and those 5 people were straight up BAD(except EE, he was quite servicable). But Nate Webster, Manuel, Mcree, Engleburger and Bly were nothing to write home about. Our defense couldnt get much worse And with Nolan and all the new position coaches i believe(pending solid FA and draft aquisations) our D will be in the low 20's or high teens in most areas. So i give hope that it cannot be much worse than 2008. We will win 8-10 games next year with solid growth on both sides of the ball from our young stars.
Completely off topic but i stumbled onto this and thought it was pretty funny.

Well predications are just that
Anybody predict to Falcons to win the NFC south or the Dolphines to win the AFC East last year, probably not unless they were a Dolphine or Falcon fan, fact is I can say the Broncos will go 16-0 and have about the same odds as them going 3-13.
Just to let you know, Broncos to win the SB next year 45:1 in Vegas

Is there such a thing as a Playstation 3 Anonymous? I can't seem to stop thinking about or playing COD 4 and COD 5. I hear this is quite normal for a teenager, but I haven't been a teenager since Bill Clinton was frolicking with interns.
Have you seen the schedule?
2009 Home Games (w/2008 records)
Kansas City Chiefs (2-14)
San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Oakland Raiders (5-11)
Cleveland Browns (4-12)
Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)
New England Patriots (11-5)
Dallas Cowboys (9-7)
New York Giants (12-4)
2009 Away Games
Kansas City Chiefs (2-14)
San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Oakland Raiders (5-11)
Baltimore Ravens (11-5)
Cincinnati Bengals (4-11)
Indianapolis Colts (12-4)
Philadelphia Eagles (9-6)
Washington Redskins (8-8)
I just don’t see how we can get through that schedule with a bunch of young/new players with a record any better than 6-10. I love the team and I am glad they are trying to move in a new direction. Unfortunately I think it will be 2 years before we see the fruit of it all
Paper Tigers on that list:
-Chargers
-Steelers
-Patriots
-Cowboys
-Giants
-Ravens
-Colts
-Eagles
-Redskins.

If we play well
And I mean great offense and mediocre defense we can go 10-6 — 12-4 against that schedule.
Losses:
Steelers
Cowboys
Colts
Eagles
Make or break games:
San Diego (both)
Pats
Giants
Ravens
Redskins
I think we can beat at least 4 of those make or break teams and will beat one of the 4 teams I project sure losses for.
I honestly think a lot of how well we do this year depends on our offense. How long is going to take them to get comfortable in the system? That is key.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.
Cowboys??
How do you figure they lose to the Cowboys? I think the ’Boys are 7-9 or 8-8 next year. And the Ravens defense is likely to be a shadow of the 2008 version after free agency.
I can easily see then going 5-3 at home and 4-4 on the road. That’s a 9-7 record. A break here or there and they can be 10-6.

I know, I know
I don’t like the match up based off what we know going in…a rebuilding defense. A cowboys offense with exceptional talent and something to prove.
I hate the Cowboys, but I see them as a very dangerous opponent.

its foolish
to think based on last years records that next season is a 6 win campaign. You cant predict what will happen next season. Cant predict injuries and how teams can improve or decline inmediately. Who would have thought that Miami would have gone 11-5 this season? Parcells purged his team like MCD and X are doing. There is so much time between now and September. Remeber also Sd was suppose to be in the SB.

I think we will surprise a lot of people.
But the strange thing for me is that for the last couple of years, the MSM analysis has been spot on. I think it’s time to change that. 13-3 BABY!!!

Well
the way I see it, if we went 8-8 as we were last year, how is starting over virtually from scratch on one side of the ball going to improve it? Draft picks take time to develop, and we now have yet another glaring hole on defense with the release of Bly (which LOST us cap space).

The Hanging Curve
It lost us cap space this year
I think McD and Dr.X got together and said “hmmm the D sucks and as it is it isn’t going to improve from where it is.” Dr.X then said " yeah you’re right let’s get rid of the people who suck and are being paid too much and start fresh." you see because of cutting Bly we’ll have more money in later years. It’s part of rebuilding. And I think the D will be better from coaching and a stable, inteligent scheme/gameplan.
bye bye DRE
we've been saying
the same thing about “the scheme” the last few years. I remember, Bates was (is?) a highly respected defensive mind, and the run contain, while different, was supposed to be a great thing for the Broncos. I remember hearing great things about the incoming Slowik, adjusting his scheme to the personnel we had instead of trying bringing in a few tired vets and then use personnel that didn’t fit the scheme to fill out the rest (as was the critique of Bates).
I’m just trying to keep some perspective here…

Yes but...
Bates didn’t have the players for his scheme, and tried to force it on the unusual suspects.
Slowik just wasn’t a good DC (imho) plus didn’t have very good players due to Bates.
Now with a little bit of luck.. (injuries, etc) I think we’ll be much improved. We almost proved we could score 30 points on anyone, which would usually win you games, but not when your defense lets the other team score 35.
Plus switching to the 3-4 can mak a defense look better. A 4-3 relies upon a lot of good talent making plays/etc, whereas the 3-4 can rely upon less positions of talent. Not saying all the time, but it can.

I see your point
but also with the luck of fewer injuries we probably would have done better last year too.

Are the chargers sorta like us?
How will the chargers do next year compared to this year?
Maybe all the guys who were hurt on their defense come back and they have a good defense again. (And maybe we get some players who can be lots better than we were with a system that can be explained even to someone like me). But…hasn’t their offense changed. Back in the old days they were a running team who threw sometimes…and were always ahead…and ran out the clock…and other teams were totally panicked about trying to score and stuff…and had to take lots of chances…and the defense sorta had a feast of fumbles and interceptions and stuff. And then they started having a bad defense and decided they needed to throw lots more and maybe their runners aren’t as good as they used to be (sort of like us) and maybe they won’t ever want to change back because they want to be like the patriots and their quarterback wants to be the big hero and throw all the touchdowns all the time (we might turn out to be patriots to but Jay isn’t a glory hog…he wants to win more than he wants to throw touchdowns and stuff).
So, are the Broncos trying to turn into a team that scores lots and can run when they want to and the defense can gamble because they have the lead all the time or know the offense can score when they want to?
I have a post coming on SD
They have some interesting problems. They probably solved one by franchising Sproles – darn them (we were never going to get him, but it was a fun thoughtoid).
Hillis in '09
Not only that...
…but Jedi and X-Man cut Alridge which ruined about fifty different posts debating whether we already had our Sproles on the roster! It’s a new day in Broncoland.
Broncos currently no better than 3-13
With the defense up in the air (3 returning starters?) and a very tough schedule rolling the Broncos way, at this point 3-13 is likely, 6-10 a stretch. If they fill in their defense with some talent, this can stretch, but a current, I just don’t see a sudden jump to being a playoff contender again.
Teams they can beat: 2xKansasCity, 2xOakland, Cincinnati, Cleveland
So we have no chance of beating SD
Or a Ravens team with more than likely a weakened D or wshington?
bye bye DRE
3 wins Really?
Our offense won us 8 games by itself this year. Our offense next year will be able to score at will with McD at the helm. The D will be improved. The D cannot get any worse. They will bring in a few free agents and draft mostly Defensive guys. Here is a fact for you. Nolan was the Raven DC from 2002-2004. He took over a Ravens unit in transition in 2002; Baltimore used eight rookies to get through the season, and despite their youth the Ravens finished first on defense. This guy is proven DC and has proven he can win with rookies starting. We will win at least 10 games next year with the possibility of more. There is no way we only win 3 games
