Pros: Good size and strength combination, but his play fell off his senior year.  Great defensive line coaching at Clemson could assuage any doubts about his performance, and he was able to get back into productive form by the end of the year.  Agile with very good balance and burst off the snap.  Good awareness, and flashes an ability to break through double teams.  Anchors well.

Cons:  Started 08 very slow, as did the whole team.  Struggled while battling a mild injury and was taken out of his game, failing to get any pressure by himself.  Will need to show that he can be consistent and get back to his junior and even sophmore levels of play.

Styg's Broncos "fit":    If Scott's late season injuries check out, and Denver hasn't looked at significant tackle depth to this point, Dorell should draw a long hard look. Some of the best dline coaching in college occurs at Clemson, and he shows a high technical grasp of his position. He could be an easy choice to move to DE in the 3-4, where he would provide both rush and pass support. My one worry is that he seems to need more conditioning, an issue that will be overlooked at the combine. As a fifth or later his three star value could net us a powerful hybrid for the 3-4/4-3.

FromBolts From the Blue:

Probably a 5-7th round choice too. He was reportedly a force in the late season, but didn't live up to his billing. It took a sit down with a coach to fire him up again, so motivation may be a factor.

Highlights

This is a general Clemson Football highlight video. There is some defense and a chance to watch the Dline here.

Scouting Reports and Offsite Links:

  • 1/10/09: Dorrell Scott finished the season with just one sack, but had six TFL and five quarterback hurries.

5/9/08: A monstrous defensive tackle who can get to the quarterback on occasion. Dorell Scott had 50 tackles and three sacks in 2007.

2007: A starter as a sophomore, Dorell Scott is one of the hardest-working players in this class. He'll put up some good numbers on the bench press come Combine time.  [see more...]
  • Scott's stock seemed to take a hit this year more because of Clemson's struggles than his own performance. He's a big, thickly built tackle who displays a nice combination of flexibility, athleticism and technique inside... He has the frame to add even more weight and possesses the talent to become one of the draft's top nose tackles at the next level.

Scott exhibits an advanced pass-rush repertoire for the nose tackle position and showcases the ability to shed blocks and keep himself clean inside. He opened eyes at the Combine, running a sub-five second 40, doing 29 reps on the bench and finishing with a 30.5 inch vertical... He is now considered a solid third-round pick and could move into the latter portions of round two with a strong pro day showing.  [see more...]
