Oh Woody You Nut
Woody Paige thinks it was a mistake to let Foxy go. Yeah that’s what we needed – another corner who was good at letting guys catch the ball in front of him and run for 15 yards.
I guess to be fair, unlike Dre Bly at least Foxy was a decent tackler and a good guy. But that doesn’t mean I wish he was here.
I was sitting in a bar a couple days ago with some co-workers...
doing some happy hour activities. Woody came on the TV on Around The Horn, and I remarked that I compete against Woody in the marketplace of ideas, with my writing on this site. I also said that my ideas were generally better than his, and that I believe he doesn’t know what he is talking about, most of the time. So one of the women there says, how come you’re not on TV, then?
So that’s the question, I guess. It’s akin to asking why Britney Spears’ vacuous song about womanizers is always on the radio, and the GZA’s brilliant 0% Finance never is. When you’re shooting for the LCD, quality gets left behind.
Now, for some football analysis. Foxworth played pretty well in Atlanta last season, because they had him doing things that suited his skill-set. The stuff he was doing in Denver never really did. It was the same deal as with Bly. Trying to get the CB on the other side to do the same things as Champ Bailey is folly, because only he can play off as well as he does. Foxy is a guy who can be productive in the right system, but he’s not a guy you want to overpay in free agency. Woody is one of these sportswriters who likes to double as an arbiter of what is morally right and wrong, and he likes Foxy’s intelligence and sense of civic responsibility. That’s fine, but in terms of football decisions, giving him big money would be a mistake.

I am sick of SMALL CB's....
We need 6.0 + guys that are fast that can compete against the proto typical WR’s. Almost safety/ CB hybrids like Sean SMith from Utah.
No more small CB’s IMO.
Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
What about Lenny Walls?

Nice call, BM
A painful one, but a good call nonetheless…
while we’re at it…

The guy who broke down the AFC lists Dre Bly as a possible FA pick up for us....
what effing baffoon believes that?!?!?
Is there such a thing as a Playstation 3 Anonymous? I can't seem to stop thinking about or playing COD 4 and COD 5. I hear this is quite normal for a teenager, but I haven't been a teenager since Bill Clinton was frolicking with interns.
ah I read it wrong, or they implied it wrong.
never mind. lol

Why the hell would we want Clayton
The guy wouldn’t even make the team, WR is not a position of need, Buchanon is s strtech in that he sucks.

What if Denver went after Devery Henderson?
I don’t know much about him, just that he dominates the football outsiders DVOA statistic by a tremendous margin. Guru talked aobut deep threats again last night on MHR Radio, and Ted brought of Devery in last weeks ST&NO. Devery also scores at #17 in the league on DYAR, whatever that means… :)
Bottom line, Brandon needs to be a beast, Eddie needs to catch 135 balls a year, and be around 10ypc (which is how we will know we are using him correctly), and Stokes needs to be our high-noon clutch 3rd down and special situations player. The only thing missing is the reliable deep threat, and the WR corp is shamelessly complete…

+1 Signing him would free up future draft picks for other uses
Totally agreed. That guy has some real talent, he’s young, and nobody’s listing him as a high-caliber free agent. I see two arguments for not picking him up. The first would be that he’s potentially the statistical bi-product of a pass-wacky offense. The second The best argument would be that a mid-round pick should be used on a WR with punt-return skills. Otherwise, that guy is the kind of signing that separates great teams from good ones.
Not in a vacuum, of course. Great teams need defensive linemen, linebackers, and safeties, too.
I thought Darrell Jackson was a good 3/4 WR
I don’t think Clayton is any better than Kerry Colbert, very similar in both had great rookie seasons then fell off the map.

I don't want
Philip Buchanon. We might as well have kept Dre’ Bly if we are going to sign that underachiever.
hey
