Teams With Notable Cap Space
Howzit going everyone. What an exciting time it is. Free Agency begins at Midnight and the draft is coming soon. Who will the Broncos Sign? Who will they draft? Indeed (as someone noted) tomorrow morning will be like waking up on Christmas day, to see what surprises lie before us. With that said, I saw an article by Adam Shefter regarding the amount of cap space that especially the Bucs have. My questions are: How will we fare in Free Agency? We do have quite a bit of cap space. We do have an awesome offense with unlimited potential. Could we draw some key components this way? Is Denver a much more intriguing place than the other cities, ie. TB, KC, PHI, GB, etc.?
Anyway here is the 411...
On the eve of free agency, some teams are positioned too well, and others not so well. Based on numbers gathered Thursday — and these are fluid, changing with each roster move that each team makes — here are the teams with the most and least salary-cap room heading into the start of free agency.
MOST
Tampa Bay — $61 million
Kansas City — $57 million
Philadelphia — $48 million
Denver — $37 million
Green Bay — $34 million
LEAST
Carolina — $1.9 million
New England — $3.2 million
Indianapolis — $6.6 million
Pittsburgh — $7.4 million
Washington — $8.1 million
Let me know what you guys think. And I'm glad that NE, INDY, and PITT have little space.

How the hell aren't the Raiders on the list with least cap space?
Sounds like Al has figured out some creative accounting, maybe the millions of dollars was to be millions of pesos?

They cut a lot of people.
Gibril Wilson, among others, got them about $10 mil.
OK, I've started having dreams about the draft. Is that bad? A couple of weeks ago, I dreamed that we traded down to the #18 pick and drafted Chris Wells. (Zappa was pissed off.) Then last night I dreamed that we passed on Knowshon Moreno to get Maualuga, and Knowshon went to the Chargers. (Zappa was pissed off again.) Is it worse that I'm dreaming about the draft, or that I'm dreaming about Zappa?

They saved that much on Wilson?
They still have guys like Tommy Kelly and Walker on the books, I am still confused how they aren’t taking some massive hits, especially after they just maid Nnambi the highest paid defensive player in the league and have a punter they are paying 4 million a year for.

Perhaps the hits will come next year....
not that it matters…. cap hit or not, the Raiders are still their own worse enemy… brewhahaha!

They are debating the Walker question now
If you look at production vs paycheck, he probably caught the most $$$ per pass reception in history. That’s one way to get on the record books, I suppose

Wow $61 Million
To bad the Broncos could not be that far under. With that kind of money we could bring in a ton of FA to fix our D problem lol. $37 Million is pretty good though.

Here's the question though
37 million and what do we spend it on, all the guys that would have been great pick ups will be franchised or resigned, which leaves a bunch of scrub players that will get over paid because other teams can also throw retarded jack at them. I think Denver needs to sign maybe 3 or 4 players and save some space for next year.

Just because a guy
is not Franchised does not mean he is a scrub. Some teams have multiple FA and they can only place a franchise tag on 1 player. Baltimore is a good example. They placed the franchise tag on Suggs and now they may loose Bart Scott, Ray Lewis and their Center Jason Brown. None of these players are scrubs. Denver needs at least 7 FA and 4 need to be startes. 37 Million will be able to get that done. We just do not have enough money to sign players like Haynesworth.

Notable people that will most likely be FA and are not scrubs
Ron Bartell, Bryant Mcfadden, Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, Bertrand Berry, Jeff Saturday, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Derrick Ward, Albert Haynesworth, Chris Canty. I could keep going but you should get the point.

The only ones that are what I would call big impact players
Haynesworth will cost way too much money and won’t come here to play NT, TJ is not a need, Canty is being resigned by the Dolphines, Lewis has maybe two or three years left, if that, Scott is decent but not an impact player, Saturday a very good player, but we have a very good C, McFadden somewhat over-rated due to a pool of medicore CB Free agents.

Well I am looking at the free agents available and none seem really great to me
Scott – maybe but not a long term solution
Lewis – will resign with the Ravens
Gabe Watson – definately worth a look, but I wouldn’t sign him to a big guarenteed deal
No really good CB now that Nnambi is off the market
Safeties are thin
DE are super thin

Wrong
Their are not Elite CB on the market like Nnamdi but we do not need another elite cb beacuse we already have Champ. There are some good #2 CB available in the market like Mcfadden, Bartell, Jabari Greer. Canty was with Dallas last year so I do not know how the Dolphins can resign a player that was not on their team. That is also Speculation. Scott is a beast in the middle and is not just a decent player, you need to go watch some ravens tape. Scott is also only 29 and could play another 4-5 years. You need to go look at the list again because you do not have any facts to debate you opinion. Here is a good site that is updated a lot http://www.walterfootball.com/freeagents.php
Also note Mcdaniels said at the combine that they will agressive when trying to sign the FA they want.

I also do not
think that the Dolphins will have the money to sign Canty. They just gave Wilso and Bell contracts. They really want Jason Brown, Center, from the Ravens. They resigned LB Channing Crowder , OT Vernon Carery to a multi-year deals. I do not think they will have the Cap room to sign Canty.

Well Champ is elite when healthy, but that has been rare the past two years
McFadden is awful, plain awful, I have many Pittsburgh fans that are happy no change that estatic that he is leaving, Bartell is worse than Foxworth and Paymah, and Greer is a marginal starter, sorry I meant to say that I saw something that Dallas was close to resigning Canty, I think that would be a good pick-up, if we could swing it. Like I said I think Scott is good but not a difference maker, I think he benefited greatly from playing around guys like Suggs, Lewis, Pryce, Hatoli, and Reed to name a few, so expecting him to come in here and make the defense significantly better seems like wishful thinking.

Agreed! Thats what I was thinking.
No need to scramble to get a big name. Get several serviceable players that will make an immediate impact. Then see what we can get next yr.

Haynesworth
How can the redskins afford him with only 8.1 in cap space. I hear they are in the running. Am I mistaken

Creative Financing
A longer term ‘guaranteed’ contract that is somewhat backloaded could work. Signing bonuses are prorated by length of contract, so they can sign him with a big pro-rated bonus (paying him for this year), and offload most to future years. With next season looking ‘cap’ free, it might work as a get out of cap-hell free card for over-spenders this year.
Plus, I’m sure they’ve got a few under-performers they can unload.
by MTBroncoFan on Feb 26, 2009 4:29 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
No, you are not
I think Synder wants big name guys so it is all in how you structure the contract, they could sign him to a fat signing bonus and pro-rate it over several years so they don’t take the hit this year.

Do you think the Skins can outbid the Bucs?
With so much cap room, the Bucs seem ready to aquire his services. Still, the Bucs might be reluctant to match a guaranteed 7 year, $100+ million dollar deal that is being sought.
by MTBroncoFan on Feb 26, 2009 4:33 PM MST up reply actions 0 recs
I think the Bucs could sign him
But I agree, they probably will not bite the bullet on the guarentees that he wants, I think they probably want more youth anyways.

not worth it
Big Albert has a history of not playing all year (injuries). I’ve also heard a year or 2 ago that he was lazy. What would happen if you gave a lazy man a giant contract? Seems risky.

Bart Scott would be nice
Knows 3-4, plays consistantly. I would be happy to see Scott wearing orange and blue.

Denver might have slightly more cap space than advertised – louis green failed to meet some of his stipulations – it might mean as much as an extra $4 million
(i read that somewhere – the truth of the matter might be different)…
