Prospect Watch
I thought I'd start a series on some of the interesting prospects who've slipped by the media's focus despite being -- apparently -- draftable prospects.
We know there are players out there who, through a combination of circumstances, are missed in the process of identifying prospects. Some of them, like Rod Smith, play for small schools or are in the wrong position. Some of them are simply ignored, perhaps because they lack the identifying metrics that often mark great prospects. For whatever reason, they are missed, although someone often takes notice eventually, or else we'd never hear of them.
Here's my prospect for the day: Blake Schlueter (OC), TCU.
The pro day at TCU revealed a surprise. Schlueter, who gained little attention, posted some impressive numbers. His projected draft position on Draft Scout is 7th-FA and rising.
I decided to start this series (although I'll spend time on it only when I feel so inclined) because I thought Schlueter could be a wonderful pick for the Broncos, and a great late-round 'find.'

I don't know, Ski
The Broncos had a guy a while ago, athletic fella who played center, weighted about 286, 290, can’t remember his name – Tom something? Nawlins, Nolin, something like that…….;-)
Hillis in '09
I noticed that Cornell Green
was there. It looks like the Broncos may be one step ahead of you Colinski.
I love guys like this....
Seems a fit for what Jedi and Dr X are doing.
Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
I wrote up my center rankings before his proday
and I had him just missing the cut, behind Slauson. I think there are about 3-4 good C/G prospects at the end of the draft, so I wouldn’t be surprised if denver takes a chance on seeing if one of them slips into CFA. Under Shanny Denver handed out some of the sweetest CFA contracts out there, which seems to work out pretty well. I’m hoping they keep it up because it really gives them their choice CFAs, and we may be looking to sign ten or more this year….
Concision in style, precision in thought, decision in life.

Looking at the numbers, seems like he may translate more to a penetrating DT versus a Center
"Me fail english, that unpossible" - Ralph Wiggum
"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem" - Duffman
"McDaniels must go!" - Broncoman
that occurred to me -- a lot
Sorta tough to waste all that speed on an OL, yep. But I like the idea of having speedy OLs for ZB.
I’d sure like to use a late pick on him and try a few experiments.
Fast centers can be devastating when they pull.
While the old Broncos didn’t pull that often, who knows what the new Broncos may do.

What are metrics worth?
Well, in this case, for a 6’2&3/8, 290lb. guy who runs a 4.7-40, they’re worth a lot. They would find some place to use him, I guarantee it.
And the normal thinking on an OL, which says he’s too short or too light, isn’t as applicable for a ZBer. The “pure athlete” line caught my attention.
TCU has a number of interesting prospects; I was just thinking of another one — Stephen Hodge. He’s the only ‘big’ Safety, e.g., Ellison, Harris, etc., that looks like he’ll stay at Safety. What can you say about a 234lb. Safety who ran a 4.54-40yd. at the combine. Intriguing. I wouldn’t mind see him as 6 or 7.
