McCutlergate Moment of Clarity - How we should place blame: 3.16.09, baby

Until 5 minutes ago I, like a lot of the Bronco fans I know, was confused by McCutlergate.  I don’t know who to blame.  I went back and forth between hating McD for precipitating this situation and being angry at Jay for not showing the humility or professionalism our organization has come to expect.  My days of confusion, however, are now over my friends.

After reading the article in sadaraine’s post, things crystallized.  From now on, I’m not going to pay attention to Porkchop or Roto or anything else.  No my friends, all my Broncattention is now firmly fixed on one day - the most important day in the last 5 years of our franchise.  That day, by bronco bretheran, is Monday March 16, 2009.  Please, allow me to elaborate.

It’s all on Jay.  This is the tipping point.  He was hurt.  His ego was bruised.  Some say it’s because he cares so much about the game and lives and dies with his career.  Others say it’s because he’s a spoiled brat.  The truth is that none of this matters.  What matters is whether Jay Cutler is a LEADER OF MEN or just a guy with talent who was well liked but, at the end of the day, doesn’t have what it takes, testicularly speaking, to be a man and do what is necessary.

No matter what McD has done or how dishonest they have been with Jay, it’s time for Jay to go to work and lead.  If not for McD and Pat, then try to fix this for Eddie Royal and Ryan Clady!  How do you think those guys feel right now?  What about US - the people who live and die with every throw, the people who buy tickets and merchandise and allow him to make the money he makes - the people who pay $77 bucks a seat, show up at 5 am to tailgate and then sit patiently in the stands, watching him dish out interceptions?

His actions on Monday will speak volumes to me.  If he shows, then he is what he says he is and what I have always held him to be - a leader of men who is enduring a tough situation.  If he doesn't show, his actions will paint him clearly in my mind as a whiney, immature kid who talked about leadership, fraternity and loyalty but only cared about his pride, his feelings and his pocketbook.  Basically, Jay’s actions on 3.16.09 will cement his legacy and firmly place the blame for McCutlergate in my mind – I encourage other confused bronco fans to adopt this litmus test as well.

I love watching Jay Cutler play the game of football.  It will hurt (bad) if he goes.  However, if he doesn’t fall on the sword and show up for us and for his teammates on Monday, I will get over it - JSAP.
