Karl Paymah
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. . .Gonzo from The Daily Norseman here. As was pointed out in this morning's post, the Vikings have signed Karl Paymah to a one-year deal to, in all likelihood, compete for (and win) the nickel position in our secondary.
While I know you're probably in a significant bit of mourning over the loss of this sure-fire superstar. . .he said sarcastically. . .I was wondering if any of you good folks can give me the skinny on Mr. Paymah and what kind of player the Vikings are getting for their money.
Thanks in advance, everyone!

Paymah
I for one am sorry to lose hum. He was one of three CB’s drafted in 05 (in the third round). They are all now gone. At the time, someone commented that he was maybe the most talented, but had never played zone in college so it maight take awhile for him to get some playing time. He never really got much, with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly and Darrent Williams and Domonique Foxworth ahead of him.
I’ve seen him make some really athletic plays. He also blew some the last couple years, but the coaching was lousy and even Bailey blew some plays. I think he may turn out to be a player we should not have let get away.

Opinions will vary
I like the guy. Under-appreciated, badly used, he still did fairly well – we can’t blame the player for the scheme. So long, Karl – all the best.

Just a one year deal
Maybe we get him back next year after he does well for one in Minnesota.

My Two Cents For Your New Nickel.
He’s a decent enough player, but I doubt he ever ammounts to much more than what he is today.
Good tackler...
cover skills are suspect. Probably would not have made the team last year if Foxworth had not been traded.
He is
a good special teamer

Most of my memories of Paymah
are of me screaming at the TV, “DAMMIT PAYMAH!!! TERRIBLE COVERAGE!!!!” But I also remember a couple of decent plays that he made. But I can’t really give a true analysis of his abilities because our coaching staff misused our DB’s so badly it should have been a crime. To me, he’s just kind of a “meh” player. I guess he’ll be a good fit in your defense as a nickel and surrounded by all the talent you have.

is a decent Zone Corner. If you ask him to play too much man to man he will wear down and get burned quickly! That said as a nickle he wouldn’t be a bad option. Paymah is a solid tackler and can wrap up a guy from the front but don’t ask him to chase a guy down. give him five yards space and hes okay don’t press him. He doesn’t have swivel hips and the felixibility you look for in a corner but he has some decent hands. His decisions get him into trouble the most which can be fixed with coaching. Frazier may do him some good!

Decent athlete, but seems to struggle with the mental aspect of the game
He will make a great play and then a bonehead one the next ime around, maybe new coaching can help him reach his potential.

Salary considerations were likely of paramount importance. It’s a tough time for Denver to ante up, and if Foxworth’s contract was an indication, Paymah was able to get a little more than they were willing to pay for him.
No COVER skills at all! Overall, you got yourself a special teamer! No more.
Think of it this way; He couldnt win a starting position in a defensive backfield that was the worst in the NFL (Champ excluded) An undrafted free agent (Josh Bell) beat him out as a starter. Sorry, not to rub it in, but he and foxworth had done their time, now their someone else’s dead weight!

I think you could expect Dominic Foxworth-esque production.
Which isn’t too shabby at all.
