Someone in the MSM has finally looked at Bus Cook
Don Banks at SI looks at Cutler and Cook's other QB clients.
"Bus is turning up the heat because he knows there has been a tremendous amount of change going on there in Denver. He's trying to break the organization, break the ownership, now that it's just Bowlen and these two young guys. There are new people in Denver and they exposed themselves with the dabbling they did [in trade talks], and now they've got an agent trying to make it as miserable as he can for them. He's creating some pressure through the media, and trying to see how strong these three are going to be. Will they sit there and be able to take the heat? Something like this can bring an organization to its knees.''
One veteran agent with several high-profile NFL clients said that everything that has unfolded in Denver regarding Cutler in the past three weeks fits nicely under the heading of a "classic case of an agent trying to get his guy traded.''

I don't know who the author is or his reputation
But this is some of the best info on this fiasco that I have seen. Granted, the majority of the other info I have seen is absolute trash.
Thanks to Mike Shanahan, a great coach who will be dearly missed.
Hillis for starter next year. He wears special thigh pads so his solid brass balls don't give him repeated thigh contusions.

did a great job on this. All the quotes are things he sourced, at very high levels, so there is no way I could ever have dreamed of getting them. I think he did fantastic, and used his connections very well.
Just glad that reality is starting to gain some momentum here….

What a great column by Banks.
I just wrote him an email telling him how much I appreciate his outing of Cook. I’d like to share it here…
Don,
Thank you so much for finally exposing Bus Cook. From the very beginning, this story has reeked of Brett Favre and Bus Cook, but all everyone in the media has wanted to do is vilify Josh McDaniels and Jay Cutler. Really, Cook has to be behind all of this – until now, Cutler has seemed a very intelligent and loyal player. Perhaps he’s seemed a bit immature at times, but his recent statements have been that of a prima donna. It hasn’t been the real Jay Cutler speaking; it’s been Jay following Cook’s script. It’s a shame, really – Jay has the chance to own Denver in the same way John Elway has. No, he could never match or eclipse Elway, even with more than John’s two rings. But still, nobody shines brighter in Colorado than the Broncos’ QB, and there isn’t a better owner or fan base in the NFL. Jay has it really good in Denver and he’ll be an even wealthier man someday if he decides to stay. But it’s truly a shame what he’s allowed his agent to do to his reputation, and at such a young age. He is losing fans at a rapid pace. Jay became an instant role model to a whole new demographic when he was diagnosed with diabetes, and I have to wonder if he’s taken a moment to think about how all of those new fans view him now. Thank you for the terrific column.

This is the key graf:
Though Cutler was a no-show when the Broncos offseason program began this week, Cook ruled out any chance of a training camp holdout in an attempt to force Denver into a trade.
"Obviously they hold all the cards right now,‘’ Cook said. "Jay’s under contract. And he will show up. He’ll be there at the mandatory [mini]-camps, and maybe sooner. That would be up to Jay. But he’ll definitely be there for the mandatory camps, and training camp. So they’re the ones who control the situation. Not us.’’

From the article it sounds like
all McDaniels had to say is, I promise we will never trade you and it would have been over
sounded like McD coulnt say that for sure
I bet lots of cochs would have
but, You would have to lie
but it might have ended it. You could weigh the lose of integrity v the lose of cutler.
Its small white lie
Maybe he though Cutler would understand
and appreciate his honesty for telling the truth even when it didnt have to be told
I guess so.
I mean McDaniels didn’t really expect things to go away by saying, ‘I can’t tell you we wouldn’t trade you in the future, if that was in the best interests of the team.’
2007-08 MVP: Kobe Bryant
Cutler's 4th qtr/OT game winning drives: 9
Thats my take
McD tried to be completely honest, at least in the most recent meeting, and Cutler didn’t hear what he wanted to hear. McD is only gonna trade Cutler if a deal is offered that no one could refuse but Cutler just knows that he can be traded and doesn’t like it.
I think both sides have botched this pretty bad, but I think it can be resolved. Broncos FO brings Cutler in and says play this season give us another outstanding season and we’ll sit at the table this time next year and talk turkey, including a no trade clause if he wants.
To me if Cutler shows he can play in McD system, which I strongly believe he will, he deserves to get paid and have the stamp of Franchise QB place on his forehead, or a no trade clause if he prefers.
"If you don't know where your going you might find yourself somplace else."
Can they do No-trade clauses in the NFL
I know in baseball they can, but I didn’t think the CBA allowed No trade clauses.
I am crossing my fingers that this happens
I honestly think that this season could be a spectacle, in a GOOD way haha, if this gets worked out and Jay stays. I just hope we will see the day both are smiling and having a good time on the football field. Cutler regains his “great hope” status and McD critics can move on. Cutler gets his fat contract, Cook gets his fat bonus, and Broncos fans get to celebrate wins! WOO! I like this!

Here's what's smelled fishy from the start...
Jay Cutler has never been shy about having conflict with coaches. Does anyone else remember the very short-lived, potential controversy when it came out that he and Jeremy Bates had some sort of conflict? When he was asked about it, he said basically, “Of course we argue, we work together. Anytime you’re working that close to someone, there will be disagreement. No big deal.” So, in the past he hasn’t let his feelings get hurt when disagreeing with someone. Now, I understand this is a different situation with Jay feeling betrayed, but since he’s shown in the past that he can separate his feelings from a situation, why can’t he here? It would seem to me that he took some time to cool off, had the opportunity to evaluate things from afar so to speak. You would think he could come to the conclusion that it’s business and not personal, they’re trying to do what they think is best for the Broncos, and then get back together and get the situation resolved. That hasn’t been the case, he seems unwilling to get resolved and to me that looks out of character. Obviously, I don’t know the guy and I’m speculating here, but reading Banks’ article and styg’s take as well kind of brought back that sense of “This doesn’t fit.”
aka MN Bronco
This just proves
that agents aren’t a necessary evil, they are just evil, period.
I just read the article. Right on - just as Styg was.
I liked the comments from NFL personal about the McNair and Favre situations – especially where Green Bay got assistance from Tennessee people on what Cook was doing and how to deal with his tactics. I am willing to bet that Mr Cook will get more press on this – albeit in a way he doesn’t like. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy….
Cook was 'begging' to get Cutler out after Shanny was fired?
This makes Cook look even worse
http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/17/report-cook-was-begging-for-cutler-trade/
An interesting part in the video
is their discussion on whether McDaniels wanted Cutler to begin with. If he didn’t then why wasn’t that brought up when he was interviewed.
The talk about Cook is not surprising from what I have read about him in the past with McNair and Favre.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice . . .
I’m taking Cook’s “They’re the ones holding the cards . . . Jay will show up . . .they’re the ones who control the situation. Not us” with more than a few grains of salt. Isn’t this where we came in? Styg was the first to lay out this pattern in print, and since it is a pattern we shouldn’t forget what comes next. After each gut-wrenching setback we hear soothing noises from Jay’s camp. He really wants to settle this thing and put it behind him in earlier versions, he’s going to be a dutiful employee in the latest iteration. When people we look up to or feel we need, whether political leaders or sports stars, seem to be acting badly, we make excuses for them. They’re receiving bad advice or underlings are acting wihtout their knowledge. If the glorious leader/football star only knew what was going on he’d set things right. Even McDaniels is under the spell of that notion. If only he could speak to Jay alone without Bus Cook being present, all might be well.
But I’d be willing to wager that Cutler wants Bus present when there’s any interaction so he doesn’t slip up and depart from his script. Bus Cook does not have him under his spell but is essentially a shyster lawyer who knows how to get his client what he wants. Cutler’s latest, that he thought things were going to be resolved when they got together Saturday, that they’d slap each other on the back, laugh about the whole thing, and go out and have a beer together, or whatever, sounds fishy. We’ve heard it before. Of course Cook’s calculations have Cutler innocently asking, because he’s insecure after being so horribly let down, for exactly what Cook knows the Broncos can’t afford to give, an unconditional guarantee that Cutler won’t ever be traded. And of course McDaniels, perhaps still not realizing he’s being played, allows that he can’t absolutely guarantee that for any player (as Cutler and Cook well know), but hey, don’t worry, we have no intention of trading you. McDaniels, failing to realize that’s not the problem, then feels the meeting has gone well because he’s allayed Cutler’s fears. But then he hears that it didn’t go well, that Cutler didn’t hear what he wanted to hear, that he’s shocked that McDaniels made it clear that he doesn’t want him (oh, puleeze), that the situation is worse than ever.
Now Cook knows that Jay has three years left on his contract, and makes sure we know he knows, so we can all relax just as we did the last few times we thought matters might eventually be resolved. Fool me once . . . But Cook knows how to play this game, and Cutler is smart enough and disciplined enough to continue to play his role. You can count on him being “shocked” at McDaniels’ wishing he could get rid of him at least a couple more times, with steadily mounting outrage and consequent “irrational” behavior. Sure, the Broncos have the whip hand, but Bus’ strategy, honed in previous forced confrontations, is to make the situation so impossible and the Broncos’ front office so miserable with the whole mess that they’ll want to trade him.
I’m hoping the Broncos don’t let him get away with it. The moral and probably tactical support the Broncos are apparently receiving from previous victims of this game will help. What was a suspicion before now has been publicly exposed as Cook’s modus operandi, and I imagine other teams are offering advice and maybe even more tangible support. It’s not to the other teams’ advantage for this kind of behavior to spread. It has to stop now.

Great Comments.
It is pretty naive to think that Cutler is not in on what’s going on now. Whether or not Bus talked him into it to start with…who knows.
It's intriguing
that Tennessee seemed to volunteer their collected learnings of the Bus Cook Playbook to the Packers to help them better address the Favre situation. Of course, it didn’t really help GB in the end. I just hope the FOs of the Packers and Titans are sharing the same kind of info with Pat and his team, so at least they can operate from an informed perspective. I suspect — upon seeing the very tightlipped, conservative nature of the way Bowlen/X/McDaniels have addressed this, keeping a united front — that they may have been let in on it some time ago.

Great stuff
Glad to see someone in the MSM finally sniff this out after the rest of us here already knew it. The more people point at Bus Cook as the wizard behind the curtain, the harder it will be for him to succeed in his nefarious plans.
What next? Writing to more football journalists in the MSM? Spreading the word. Emailing the Broncos front office. Emailing Jay Cutler (if there’s a way to do that). Twittering (too bad the only Jay Cutler on Twitter is an obvious faker), Facebooking, seriously, whatever it takes to get the mantra caught on — that Bus is driving this mess and needs to go.
Bus Cook
…on whether he is using the situation to get a new contract for Jay. -
Are we trying to get Jay Cutler a new contract with this situation? That’s absolutely not true……. I never even thought about it.
He never even thought about it. Now that’s a good one.
With that said, I do not think Jay Cutler is a dummie who is being blindly manipulated in this situation. It’s more like willingly manipulated. If that’s possible.
There's liars,
there’s damned liars, and then there’s Bus Cook.
And I agree with you — none of this happens without Cutler’s acquiescence. It would be nice to think he’s just being used by his agent, but probably not accurate. Ultimately, he hired the man who is orchestrating this, so this is on him.

Stop the Jay-trade talks!! Just stop it!! -Mike Clark
What did Josh say...
about the future possibility of trading Cutler. As far as I can remember, didn’t he say that he wants to talk with Jay one more time before the Broncos proceed with any trade demands. I imagine that it means that he wants to talk to Jay alone and without Bus Cook around.
I’m not sure what his intentions are with this meeting, but I think it is smart in two ways. First of all, if Jay does allow a meeting without the scheming presence of Bus Cook then possibly he might be able to talk some sense into Jay and convince him that he really does want him to a Denver Bronco. I doubt Jay would do this though, especially given the past few weeks and Jay’s reluctance to have any kind of meeting without Bus being seated right next to Jay.
Secondly, maybe that is exactly the reason why Josh said that they wouldn’t proceed with the trade demands until he met with him because he knows that Jay won’t meet with him alone, thus the onus is on Jay. He knows that Jay will not meet with him alone and therefore he doesn’t have to trade him. The choice is then Jays.
Doesn’t it seem like both sides are now trying to put the choice in the other’s hands. Bus is saying that the ball is in the Broncos court, whereas Josh is in a way making the decision Cutlers by not proceeding with anything until Jay comes and meets with him alone.
Great point
That is exactly how McD should proceed, too. See if he can get a one-on-one with Jay and ask him straight out, “Do you want to be here? If so, then we will not trade you, period. Now let’s get on with practice. If not, then tough! You’re under contract.. BWAAHAAAA HAAAA!!!!” JK
Honestly, if he says no, I’m not sure where they should go from there.
aka MN Bronco
The more I think about it,
the more I feel that the Broncos should respond to every inquiry from the press the same way.
“Jay Cutler is under contract. Jay Cutler will not be traded. He will be on the Denver Broncos roster for 16 games this season and 16 games each season remaining on his contract. This will be the case whether he is the starter or a game day inactive. We hope that he chooses to fully participate in his time as a member of the Denver Broncos because he is not going anywhere. Thank you.”
They should say that so often that we all have it memorized.
Agree
