Integrity = no trade
We spend a lot of energy these days discussing what we can get in return for Cutler. I say, that what we can get for him is not something we desperately need, and I am fine with letting Simms (or possibly Garcia) start at QB in 09, if Cutler choses to sit out the entire season.
If Cutler is really hell bent on not being a Bronco, then we can trade him next year to whomever Mike Shanahan is coaching. We will then have sent the clear signal, that a player cannot force his way out of Denver by acting up. Sure the standoff (in the worst case scnario mind you) will probably cost us something equal to a second round pick, as Cutlers value deteriorates during his '09 hold out. A price I am willing to pay for the chance to show some determination.
For these reasons I believe, that the best course of action, is to hold on to Cutler (and any other player represented by Cook). Hopefully Jay realizes, that his best option is to come to camp, and win the starting job as QB of the Denver Broncos. If so, I believe that time and winning will have os all laughing over this mess two years from now. I hope.

We can NOT let Bus Cook win this one.
I agree the Broncos should play hardball. If they cave to Cutler and Cook it not only makes the Broncos look weak but sets a bad precedent for themselves and the whole NFL. It sends that message that contracts are meaningless and players and their agents can bully teams to get what they want. The best option is to wait this thing out and make Bus Cook look like the ass that he is.

I completely agree. To hell with their trade demands. Kick the sand and whine and cry all you want. You can play or you can pay.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

Funny
All day long I’ve been thinking about what the Broncos could get for Cutler and I just logged in again because I’m coming around to “they have to keep him.”
Then I see this. I agree, they have to hold on to him, even if it’s worst case scenario like you said.

BOOM
Even after Guru and Papi’s posts, 5 more go up that could have been put into one giant thread. I am feeling a just megacollosal “JAY CUTLER THREAD” kind of like a game thread with updates.
Cutler, Marshall, and Scheffler to Detroit for Calvin Johnson, 2009 First Round Pick (20), 2009 Second Round Pick (33), and 2010 First Round Pick (?).
Get it done, McD.
What can you do for a team with 4 picks that early? I'm salivating at the combonations.

No, I like this one.
Jay’s value deteriorating as he holds out is something I really haven’t thought about. Will teams see his actions and decide that he is not a team player, and too much of a risk? Could this cause him to lose value and us not get as much out of him in a trade as we could? It seems that if we are to trade him, it’s now or never if we want a starting caliber guy.
Stop the Jay-trade talks!! Just stop it!! -Mike Clark

It's not just his value that deteriorates...
His contract has a lousy structure for holding out. It’s mostly performance incentive based with only a $1 mill base salary. Furthermore, if he does hold out the team can actually demand more back from him in prorated signing bonus than what he gets. If he holds out he may have to write a check.

Great point.
Cutler doesn’t cost us much against the cap at all. If we are willing to give up the roster spot and deal with the ongoing media circus then it doesn’t cost the Broncos anything to play rough.

I understand.
But, this should be one of the only ones in the past 24 hours. Yet, There are so many Cutler ones saying the same thing in the past day, I can’t count em!

I agree with this 100%
Dont give in to Bust Cook. Jay is under contract, force him to honor that contract. Make him compete for his job. If possible, dont let him take 70% of the snaps so he only makes 1 mil this year. Show him that demanding a trade will only harm your rep.

We should make him honor his contract
But preferably as friends. If he wants to be our QB, that would be best case scenario.

Davus.X likes!
In all the emotion the past few days, I hadn’t really thought of this option.
Make him sit if that is his choice… My bet is he would rather play, and play well so that he can generate interest from other teams.

no no no
Dont just hold on to him to hold onto him…His value will lower and lower…And BroncoDude there’s going to be tons of crazy posts about Cutler until this settles I agree it should all be in one section but until someone does that and until someone trades Jay everyone has to scan through to determine which ones are worth reading and commenting on…I completely agree with what your trying to do though. On another note I scanned through a couple of other teams sites like this one and they SUCK!! No fans…Very sad

about other fan sites
if another teams star player was trying to leave you can bet their site would be lit up like this one

Ok, assuming he holds out
Ok assuming Jay holds out, does anyone here think that he will really holdout the for the whole season? Or maybe even part of the season? The last player to hold out and even miss any part of the regular season that I can remember was Emmitt Smith back in the day. I just don’t think this will happen based on past history, one way or another this is going to be resolved before the season starts.
Don’t get me wrong, I would love for the Broncos to play hardball on this and force Jay’s hand. I just think it will be too much of a distraction for the team. And honestly… I don’t know if Pat is up to it, he doesn’t seem the type…

No Joke!
If Cutler, is really hell bent, on not being a Bronco, then we can trade him next year to whomever Mike Shanahan is coaching.
Guess what! I don’t care where that is, they will be good together and I believe that given the right circumstances, that, it would make history!
