Horse Tracks 3/2/09

DP - Well, just when you thought things were going badly, the weekend got even worse for the Denver Broncos. Brandon Marshall was arrested in Atlanta and charged with disorderly conduct. Information is forthcoming, but unless Marshall is fully exonerated the Broncos have to expect a suspension from Commissioner Goodell.
DP - No progress on the Cutler front. Mike Klis wonders if Jay and Josh will hug it out.
DP - Meanwhile, Carmelo Anthony knows what Cutler is feeling.
DP - In better news, the Broncos filled out their starting secondary yesterday by signing CB Andre Goodman, formerly of the Dolphins. They are now believed to be considering either J.J. Arrington or Derrick Ward to fill a spot at running back, but unlikely both.
NFL - Here is Adam Schefter's take on the Cutler situation.
Brian Dawkins is disappointed the Eagles didn't try harder to re-sign him. He's certainly not alone in that feeling.
NFL - A fishing boat with two NFL players aboard is missing off Florida's Gulf Coast.
Y! - Dan Wetzel doesn't believe the Broncos really offered their #1 for Cassel.
NFP - Brian Dawkins has a fan in former peer Matt Bowens.
NFL - Here are Pat Kirwan's thoughts so far regarding free agency.
NFL - Who's done better so far in free agency, the Broncos or the Redskins? The guys over at NFLN debate. More discussion here.
NFL - The Giants have made a big move, signing Chris Canty away from Dallas.
NFL - Dan Orlovsky will be the backup QB in Houston, which means Patrick Ramsey is still a free agent.
Y! - Former Packers DT Colin Cole has reportedly agreed to a contract with Seattle.
ESPN - Michael Crabtree is having surgery and will not run at his pro day.
SI - Don Banks thinks Ray Lewis blew it, among other thoughts.

Wow! Last night teaches me you can never go to sleep during the Broncos offseason...
Leave it to Brandon to help his boy Cutler out by being a bigger distraction than him… In the new NFL it’s hard to see Brandon getting a pass from the league…
Beware the wrath of a patient adversary.

Great links!
I ran across that Melo piece this morning … I love how he and Karl spoke very candidly about the situation! Good stuff. Jay’s comment of not playing for coaches was concerning to me as well – but I understand he’s upset. I hope he snaps out of it … we did hear from Peter King that Jay asked for a trade to start things off.
Lost on a fishing boat??? Man I hope those guys turn up and turn out to be okay and just stranded someplace.

That Melo piece was nice.
This is a business and every player needs to know that. You’ve got to have a tough skin sometimes.
I disagree with his “not playing for the coaches.” That didn’t sit well with me. I just hope this gets smoothed out before March 16, when Broncos veterans are to begin their offseason conditioning program. If not it will be quite an awkward moment, especially with all the media there.

Ward...
I’d love to see Denver sign Ward!
Such an exciting positive offseason with Dawkins coming aboard and it all gets screwed up less than 48 hours later! What a mess in Broncoland.
