MHR Community Mock Draft--Pick #2
|
|
With the #2 pick in the 2009 MHR Community Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select.... OT, Jason Smith, Baylor
|
St.Louis Rams Round 1, Pick #2 overall GM 53Guys |
Details of the pick after the jump...
From the GM: With the Rams shopping Orlando Pace, there is simply no doubt that they will be interested in the top OT on the board.
While Smith isn't necessarily a complete tackle yet, he is quick on his feet and ready to pass block in the NFL, something which has been lacking in St.Louis the last few years.
It would be nice if he was also an obvious upgrade in the running game, but he will likely need to keep working on getting stronger, in order to be the straight ahead blocker that Steven Jackson needs to be running ahead. To the degree that St.Louis is willing to put their tackles on the move, Smith could step in and be a positive all-around contributor right away.

ON THE CLOCK Kansas City Chiefs are up next. Do they go offense or defense? Lord knows they needa pass rush, but with the best rusher off the board, where should they look instead? Only Papi knows for sure! The deadline for this pick is midnight MST, March 21st (tomorrow). As long as I receive the pick by that time it will be valid. To send me the pick, just email me at the address shown in my profile. |

45 Sacks allowed (2008)....
nuff said… funny thing about football…the formula is pretty simple….5 studs on the offensive line, 3 or 4 studs on the defensive line and everything seems to work out in the long run… Great selection….STL needs to bolster their line and look toward next year (2010) as the year they make their move… 2009 is a stepping stone….
Beware the wrath of a patient adversary.

Can't miss
No way this is a bad pick. They should do this IRL for sure.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

trades are allowed
as long as they get in before the deadline. after talkind with some guys working out a trade currently, i came to the conclusion that TRADING FOR PICKS IN FUTURE YEARS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. The name of the game is fun, here, and trading away picks that you don’t actually have seems kind of cheap.
So, yes, trades are allowed, but they will need to be approved by the commish (me!) to go through. Players can be traded as well, but know that those kinds of trades will have a much smaller chance of going through. picks traded on a dynamic similar to the standard point value chart for picks have the highest chance of being approved.

Just curious
how do they all contact each other?

they need to reach out to eachother
via email, instant messenger, smoke signals, whatever it takes. Most people’s emails are in their profile pages, and anyone who doesn’t ahve their email there, should either put it up (those pages are secure, and are not submitted to bots or crawlers) or put it in the thread (not real secure, but not bad) if they are interested in putting their pick on the block.

The Chiefs
first pick should be Orakpo because I believe we’ll be running a Cardinal style 4-3 Under with a pass rusher in the Predator position like Pendergast had in Az. In the 4-3 under Glenn Dorsey can play a gap instead of NT in the 3-4 which he’s supposed to not really be suited for. This 4-3 Under style is currently viewed as a transition from a 4-3 to 3-4 because it’s less predictable than the 4-3 and more predictable than the 3-4. I’m thinking it’s more likely it’s heading toward the future with some tweaks to become less predictable than either one. In any case it seems good pass rushing DE’s that would work in either D are harder to find than good LBs.
But what do I know, my brains a little moldy from living in Seattle.

For Some Reason...
I happen to like Eugene Monroe more than Jason Smith. But OT should be the pick here as they start to rebuild in St. Louis.

I don't think the Rams will be picking an OT in the first round . . .
Unless . . . they’re thinking of someone to play on the right side of the line. Shortly after the Rams released Pace, they made it known that Alex Barron (known as The False Start Machine, among other things, in St. Louis) would move from RT to LT. To me it’s a dumb move, but the dude is athletic enough to play LT in the NFL, so I guess it’s one of those things where they think he’s bored on the right side or something and needs the move.
Then again, if the Rams pick him it shouldn’t matter too much to the Orange and Blue, as we already have our LT of the present and future in Clady.
