Connor Barwin Electrifies in Pro Day Workout

Connor Barwin (also) put on a show on his Pro Day although it was much more of a surprise (than Vontae Davis). He wowed all in attendance by consistently running his 40 yard dash in the 4.5 range. After timing and testing well, Barwin shined (sic) in position drills as a defensive end (his projected pro position) as a TE and outside linebacker. Several scouts thought it was the best workout they’d seen in several springs. That might help Barwin get drafted in the early second or late first round.
This is from the Sporting News' gret (and free) daily feature, today.sportingnews.com. Log on to sportingnews.com and sign up for a daily dose of the sporting world. Having covered this young man for Tales, I'm glad to see that he is showing the essence of versatility as a TE/DE/OLB who brings top level skills to all three positions. The Broncos might have a greater need for, say, Ron Brace in the 2nd, but if Brace is gone and Barwin somehow falls to us, we'd have to give great consideration to taking a player who can help us immediately with goal line packages and special teams and who could do a Larsen for us and start on offense, defense and ST in a single game.

This guy is another reason to

trade down. It seems there is tons of value in the late first and early second. I wonder if it would be best to have two or three picks in this realm, as opposed to #12.

I agree, swg

Tha’t one cornerstone of the NE approach – they have consistently stockpiled picks in the lower 1st to lower2’s/upper 3s. The assumption is that you pay less for high quality players that can develop for a year or three and then start. Nice approach.

Intriguing!

Man, wouldn’t it be sweet to field 4 or 5 of those guys who could play both sides. What a great rick to pull out randomly just to mess with an opposing OC/DC.

I couldn't agree more.

Trade down, if we can let cushings go, and stockpile picks. Get Barwin! GO BRONCOS 13-3
