MHR Community Mock Draft Pick #5
|
|
With the #5 pick in the 2009 MHR Community Mock Draft, the Cleveland Browns select.... WR, MICHAEL CRABTREE, TEXAS TECH
|
Cleveland Browns Round 1, Pick #5 overall GM Zappa
|
Details of the pick after the jump...
From GM Zappa: This selection was a tough one to make. As GM, I had hoped to make a
trade to move down or possibly out of the first round for the right
offer. No suitors arrived, so I had to go with the best intel I had
available. With my top two prospects already off the board, I had to
take a look at recent Browns history. They have trade rumors involving Braylon Edwards and a potentially long term prison sentence forthcoming for Dante Stallworth, the Cleveland Browns have selected Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech.
Crabtree was the only logical choice at this point, his value at #5 is
still considered a steal by most experts and he will no doubt make an immediate impact on this Browns team no matter what becomes of the two
current starters this offseason.
Commish's Thoughts: Nothing wrong with Crabtree at 5, and the talent is certainly there for him to be a top 5 selection. With a firm decision to convert to the 3-4 in Cleveland, the top end and NT were worth serious consideration, but it should be remembered that the Cleveland defense wasn't half bad last year, actually amnaging to keep cleveland in several games. Their offense on the other hand looked light-years removed from its 2007 high-octane incarnation. I like the choice to get frontoffice leverage on a couple of troublemaking WRs, but that is just the Commish's firm hand talking....

Coo! Just what I wanted, Zappa!
Not that I care about the Browns. But maybe Raji will keep on sliding and make it tough on Broncofan91 when his turn comes around. :)

Do you want Raji or do you just want it to be tough on me?:)

I voted no
because I thought it said Bengals and not Browns. My bad… I like the Crabtree selection for Cleveland. Gives Jay Cutler a good target to throw to. (Just kidding.)

Lady, you want me to answer you if this old airplane is safe to fly? Just how in the world do you think it got to be this old?

I voted no
but that’s just because I want to see Zappa hang by his toes that would be funny! The pick makes sense, and I could see them doing just this. I think a lot of people are seeing some flaws with Raji that he woudl not like. His effort and motivation seem to be off center. I think Raji could very well fall out of the top 15 come draft day! I coudl be wrong but people said DeSean Jackson was a sure 1st rounder last year too!

Nice Pick
I don’t have any numbers on the subject, but it seems to me that taking a DT in the first 10 spots is even trickier than taking a QB. Better to let those guys slide and develop a little more motivation . . .
As for Crabtree, he has “playmaker” written all over him so he’s worth the risk IMO.

Not unless they move Edwards in a trade...
Pick is bold, but I’d be shocked if this happened come game day.

Hmmm...
A trade down in this scenario makes the most sense, but that aside Raji has to be the pick here. Shaun Rogers is more likely to be out of town before Braylon, don’t you think? The crazy bold move would be reaching for Tyson Jackson at #5…

Still open to a trade?
You’ll be able to grab Raji or Everette Brown at 7.

I Don't Think So...
I was more interested in Crabtree and Monroe. After looking things over, I think the Eagles would be best off if I sit tight or at least limit my movement in the first round. Sorry and good luck with your Raiders draft.

Oh well, it's tough to trade down anyway.
Still, it was fun while it lasted. (Sigh)

I like the pick, that's who I have the Browns picking
No way they let crabtree go away, especially after losing a major threat in Winslow. They already have Rogers, so unless they trade Rogers, Raji would be a waste. I could also see Moreno or Wells here, Jamal Lewis definately isn’t the player he used to be, and I think a top flight RB may be a possibility.

I dont see why people think Clev is going to take Raji
They have Rogers. Why take another DT. And saying Rogers is GOING to get moved is the same as saying cutler is GOING to get moved. Its all speculation right now.

Cleveland has Shaun Rogers...why would they take Raji?

hey, I'm on your side!
And for what it is worth, I think the majority of votes for not liking your pick have more to do with you and your toes than the guy you picked…

not that unlikely
They’ve apparently been shopping edwards and rid themselves of Motorcycle Kellen. They could use somebody who knew how to catch a ball.
Now I do think they also need somebody to replace Jamal Lewis (is he even still on their team)

I am still open to any offers to trade down before the deadline.
That is, if anybody is interested.

In fact...
I am offering GM McDah the opportunity to trade the 20th and 33rd picks to Oakland for the seventh overall selection. With Matt Stafford still on the board, this is an opportunity to grab both a franchise quarterback AND a pass rusher in the first round.

Hey commish…
1. We ran a 3-4 last year and we have a pro-bowl NT in Shaun Rogers
2. Our defense was TERRIBLE and we had no pass rush at all last year. For proof see the Denver vs. Cleveland game
3. Our offense was what kept us in games until Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson both got injured
I like the Crabtree pick
