MHR Community Mock Draft Pick #6

With the #6 pick in the 2009 MHR Community Mock Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select....

OT, Michael Oher, Ole Miss

Cincinnati Bengals

Round 1, Pick #6 overall

GM Duke TC

Details of the pick after the jump...

Star-divide

Don't let him get his hands on you, or its over.

From GM Duke TC:  The Cincinnati Bengals have a long history of disappointing fans on draft day. The first five picks of the 2009 draft were tough for any Bengals fan to swallow. With pressing needs at tackle, defensive tackle, linebacker, and to a lesser extent wide receiver, it was particularly hard to see the elite talent slipping away. For this reason, I was looking for potential draft partners to trade down in the draft. The most appealing involved a swap with the giants that would have allowed for more significant rebuilding. BJ Raji was a tempting pick but the Bengals ranked 32nd in the league with 245 ypg and 32nd in the league with 12.8 ppg. Although Michael Oher is the third tackle selected in this draft, he was high on our board due to his massive frame and unmatched athleticism. Four years as a starter in the SEC provides Oher the necessary experience to make an impact from day one and help protect Carson Palmer's delicate left knee and right elbow for years to come. A brief look into Oher's past provides reassurance that he will be a positive influence in the Bengals' tumultuous locker room.

Commish's Thoughts:  Oher is my favorite O-line Prospect in the 2009 draft, and I think the Bengals need a huge dose of what he provides.  Is it too late for the Bengals to regain their offensive mojo?   He is a huge upgrade in the passblocking department, and he should pick up on NFL runblocking quickly and be playing like a stud before the end of the season.

ON THE CLOCK

The Oakland Raiders are up next.  The buzz from our 'sources' is that the phone lines have been hot with oakland trying desperately to move back in the first, but it can be easier said than done...

The deadline for this pick is Midnight MST, March 24th.  As long as I receive the pick by that time it will be valid.  To send me the pick, just email me at the address shown in my profile.

At first I thought this was a bad pick....

but then I remembered Palmer is hurt every single season and never has much of a chance. Good job. Defense is definitely a need, but…..not more important than basic protection of your QB

I like the pick a lot...

First, I’m always a fan of improving the O-Line.

Second, good character guy, and the Bengals could certainly us a little more of that… when I heard Raji to the Bengals, I just thought “that figures…”

Alas, it is always darkest before the dawn, and there is now a new dawning for Washington sports. Believe it!!!

Funny

our community Mock actually makes sense. I like guys, you are all doing a fantastic job. Ok so Oher is a great addition to any team. I like his ability to wall a defender almost completely off!

Hmmm...

Raji slips past twp teams that could be tempted by him…

I actually think Raji is out of the top 15

I really like Oher, an amzaing story, but I really can't see Oher going this high

Granted there are some issues on the O-line, but there are more pressing needs than RT, sice Levi Jones is set at LT, just my opinion.

sorry
Levi Jones is set at LT

My problem is Levi Jones is one of the most over- rated left tackles in the game. he is constantly banged up and sometime has games where the wind has sacked the QB from his side. He is another Haynesworth type of player, tell him there is money and he does super!

Oher was a good choice

Now, V. Money, pick up a good bust for the Raiders! :)

Wow

3 OT’s in the first six picks. Everyone’s looking for the next Ryan Clady!
