Just come to the Vikings, Jay.You would be way better than Sagvaris Jackenfels.
Adrian Peterson and Jay Cutler and Bernard Berrian…nice thought.
Too bad our coach is a Nimrod who wants to marry Tarvaris Jackson. Sigh.

I'm not sure which of those teams have what we'd want
which isn’t a quarterback. I’d get as many good defensive players as we can get and groom Simms. Who knows, maybe that’s why they were willing to let (the dirtbag) go.

OK Cutler wasnt answering the phone when it was BOWLEN
JC=disrepectful Dbag priack
by robbo650 on Mar 31, 2009 9:18 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
I can spin that
Cutler told Bowlen to contact his agent if he wanted to talk to him (something that is well within his rights). Neither Bowlen nor McDaniels could respect that.
by MattR on Mar 31, 2009 9:35 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Um...
"A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."
Sounds like somone spoke to Cook, and Cook didn’t feel like talking about Jay coming back to the team.

by MattR on Mar 31, 2009 9:40 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
How we know that?
He may have spoken to his agent before today been given the same answer and then tried to call Cutler to work it out for all we know. Either way all he had to do was be courteous and call Bowlen back and say hey I’m sorry but this isn’t working and we need to deal with this through my agent, this cannot be resolved.
Instead he ignored the most important man in the Broncos organization.

it is in his right to not take Bowlen’s call but smart business sense says you answer for the boss. I may have a problem with my boss or the guy he hire to oversee my position but in the end if he calls i pick up the bloody phone!

Based on him being upset when Shanny was fired and Bates left
and never getting over it. I think his “I thought things were going to work out” before each new crisis was just Bus Cook staging.

hmmmm I don't know I'll try to be open minded
I hate not being open to possibly being wrong…
But if it was “Bus Cook staging” why not ask Denver for a new contract?
Maybe they did…?
If it was a business for Jay 1st…
A. Why would it matter who was first?
B. What does being upset with losing Shanny have to do with business?
C. Bowlen told him the offense would be kept in tact. But it wasn’t.
by Whidbey Bronco on Mar 31, 2009 9:33 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Guru has said it on MHR Radio
A. It doesnt but it helps the cook/ cutler argument
B. It “looks” like Shanny and Bus had a wink wink deal for this year to re-negotiate Jay’s contract. this is the low year in the contract and so when shanny is ousted and a new guy who doesn’t have the wink wink deal with bus comes in and says play through your contract.
C. Which player of the offense left? just because some guy who cant call a play better than a video game (bates) is fired doesnt mean that the offense isnt intact. Look what McDaniels did in NE wouldnt you want THAT over the nail bitting that was bates?

McD isn't without blame in this mess,
but yes, Jay did handle it badly. Very badly.
The team can say it’s just a business but Jay can’t?
It’s the team’s (coach’s) job to assess all its players and, yes, to entertain the possibility of trades. Did Josh and Brian handle it like seasoned diplomats? No. Do I wish that Josh didn’t have the people skills of a basement dwelling videohead teenager? You betcha. But that’s their job.
Jay’s the QB. His role is to be a good soldier. He doesn’t get to decide—midway through his contract—which team he wants to play for. That’s not his job. It was his right to get angry. It wasn’t his right to walk out on his team.

Cutler never walked out on his team
He missed some voluntary workouts. He should attend since it will make him and the team better. But if we are talking about this strictly as a business, it is not something he is contractially obligated to do.
by MattR on Mar 31, 2009 9:52 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Bowlen's comments are to be taken at face value:
He has not spoken with the coach since their last disastrous little meeting.
He refused to return the owner’s phone calls for 10 days.
He communicated through his agent that he had no interest in playing for the Broncos.
That’s what I meant by walking out on his team.

by Broncs Cheer on Mar 31, 2009 9:56 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
Since you raise the issue though,
I do wonder how far Jay would have pushed it. Last I heard, he was still maintaining that he’d report once he was actually obligated to. I wonder if he changed his tune and communicated that to Bowlen. Seems like PB just finally reached the point where he’d had enough. Whether he got angry and acted based on his frustration or dispassionately decided that it was in the best interests of the team to draw this line, who knows. We’ll never know whether Jay and Josh could have eventually worked things out. But now you can bet that their rivalry will have a little extra juice for as long as they’re both in the league. Every step of the way Jay (Cook?) has made it look like he was just about ready to make up and then – darn it! – McDaniels pushed him away again. At what point do we stop getting sucked in by this patently phony act?

I voted Detroit...
because I think they give the team the best possibility to rebuild (especially if they give the 20 and 30 whatever the pick is). I don’t think Denver needs to snag a QB in this season’s draft either, contrary to what many may think. I’m willing to wait until next year and suffer another season of average play (if that’s the case), otherwise, Simms could very well have some game for the Denver fans and take them pretty far. However, this could be a great move for the future of the defense, depending on how many picks get to change hands.

A proven player is someone you know is good and who you can use right now. A draft choice might turn out to be good and it’ll probably take several years even he does.

So either he wants draft picks and they work with Detroit, or that doesn’t work.

Just a thought
the knock on Jay is that he throws too many INT’s, and we’ve always explained this away as the product of having an awful D and no running game.
So… isn’t Detroit going to be awful for Jay? It’ll be the exact same situation, just with an awful O-Line instead of the best one in the league.

Future 1st round picks?
I voted Detroit.
But regardless of where he goes, what do you guys think of us getting a 1st round pick for the next three years, rather than all of the picks this year? I like this for a few reasons: this year’s draft doesn’t seem as strong, the trading team won’t value future picks as much as ones in the current year so we’re more likely to get 1st rounders, and it provides us long-term leverage to continually build the team. The last being the most important — rebuilding is ongoing process rather than a one year event.
by CoastalBronco on Mar 31, 2009 9:43 PM MDT reply actions 0 recs
or 2nd round picks for the next 3 years.
but I think the Broncos will put some emphasis on getting something right now, probably a player.

All you have to do is figure out who will finish last (might be the donkeys at this point) and go for the Tim Tebow slot. Oh, that right, Joshy boy can’t work his offense to match players………

IMO
Elway was more an athlete than QB. I would never complain if we went after Tebow. I see a competitor with impressive physical skills. I’ll bet someone like Shanahan would know just what to do with someone like him. At any rate, you cannot let a player dictate to the team. If you have to sit him and play someone like Simms, I say why not? He could be a pleasant surprise. Of course you would have to get another QB, but so what? The Broncos don’t have to execute a knee-jerk reaction just because Jay says he doesn’t want to be here anymore. There are other quality QBs available next year, plus some better D-linemen. Patience is our luxury; Jay’s under contract.

I don;t think Cutler got that upset over the Cassell trade talks
I think he wanted out as soon as Bowlen fired Shanny, with the final strw being when his boyfriend Bates was shown the door too. Cutler (with the help of Cook) used the Cassell talks as the excuse to cause this whole ordeal culminating with their demand for a trade. I think Cutler was headed out no matter who was hired as HC and no matter how McD handled the situation Cutler wanted out. Sayonara punk ass!

Hopefully to Detroit
You want to get as much as you can for him but we can take a bit less to stick it to him on his way out after the way he stuck it to us. He’s definitely not going to a team that is a QB away from being a contender (Vikings come to mind). I hope he has to run for his life on each snap in Detroit. I would love nothing more than seeing him crying around each and every week while his hurried throws get picked off and he gets sacked 60+ times a year. I hope next year at this time he will be holding out and demanding a trade from the Lions.

We don't have to get a QB in return
like many seem to think. We could sign Leftwitch or Garcia and have them compete with Sims. We would then have a decent starter and a solid backup for this year. Then draft a QB in next years draft with Detroit’s 1st rounder next year once we ship Jay to that dump.

Jets
The jets have expressed strong interest. With Rex Ryan, one of the best defensive coaches around, and a decent offensive line and running game, and the Jets repeatedly saying they want to be involved, Cutler going there makes sense. I think the jets are willing to offer draft picks rather than players.

Cleveland
It seems to me that the Broncos have the power at this point and we should try to get Quinn out of Cleveland. I think that this would be a perfect match for both Quinn and the Broncos. McDaniels spent 3 years under Weiss and Quinn played college under a similar pro style offense. He has a great attitude and is a team player. Plus get the disgruntled Shaun Rogers to be a dominator on the d-line. Two problems solved at once, plus the whinny Cutler goes to a place that is still going to stink.

Quinn's attitude is trying to flex and look pretty
Sorry, there was a reason Quinn fell in the draft and cried (yes cried), that is because he is over-rated, has a noodle arm, and is not accurate. Had he gone to any other school besides ND, he would of been a 3rd rounder at best.

Cleveland and the Jets are the teams most likely to overpay for Jay
That’s what happens when someone has a really good game against you. Back in 1978 or so these very same Jets were trailing our Broncos 28-3, then this guy named Matt Robinson came off the bench and led a ferocious rally and beat us 31-28. A year or so later we traded several players to get this awesome stud. In training camp an observant reporter – er, media whore – noticed that, gee, he doesn’t seem to be too accurate. By the end of the season he had a 48 percent completion rate, 2 TDs, 12 INTs. The bext year he went to Buffalo, two years later he was out of the league. He threw only 10 passes after he left the Broncos. Right now Cleveland and the Jets think Cutler is God. Let’s see how much they think God is worth.

Hmmm...
Good riddance, Jay! Give me Jeff Garcia to compete with Simms for the spot over the next two years and draft someone else to groom for the role in the future. Continue to stock the defense with young talent. Screw Cutler. Here’s a deal for you:
Cutler and all the fans that love him more than the team that drafted/groomed him for #20, #33 and an equivalent number of Lions fans mercifully released from the shadow of that doomed franchise.

Agreed
but perhaps we should somehow wrangle next years #1 pick from Detroit as well so that we can draft that QB to groom for the future. Next years draft class should be better from the QB standpoint and Detroit will probably pick pretty high then too, even with JC.

Detroit's #1 picks won't help us
I believe that the Lions’ 1st round picks can only be used for WRs and we already have Marshall and Eddie.
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

You're assuming we would have to draft a QB this year
What if we deal with Detroit for a package of picks that include their #1 pick next year. We then sign Garcia or Leftwitch to compete with Sims. This would leave us with a decent starter and a competent backup and allow us to draft a QB in next years draft with that presumably high draft pick from Detroit.
by c_style on Mar 31, 2009 11:50 PM MDT up reply actions 0 recs
This would allow us to draft the best player on the board with the #20 or the #33 pick from Detroit in this years draft.

It's all about the benjamins
It’s a novel idea. But what it really comes down to is the money. I haven’t looked at the cold hard figures but I think it’s safe to say the overall #1 pick in the draft nearly always makes far more than his contribution. Owners fear and loathe the pick because it means they’re on the hook to pay a guy $60M. It counts against the cap and it’s shellin’ out big bucks for a guy that may end up slightly better than average.

Well I heard Jeff George is looking for a job.
Now that would truly be an Aprils fool joke. Well this now stinks of at least a 5 year rebuilding process so as I stated in the past it is time for me to take a year off from football. I just dont think I can watch this year, other than the uniforms, this will not even look like the Broncos that I have known. Mind you I would never jump ship and root for another team but in all honesty I think a year off with no Broncos will be the only way for me to deal with this. Hopefully after a year the fire will relight and ill be back to my old self and can watch again but of coarse there is that possible work stoppage looming so this may stretch into 2 or 3 years of no football for me. Oh well such is life.

Spleen donors needed
I’ve got something that’s sitting wrong with me…. it’s the ‘start Chris Simms thing’! Shouldn’t we really be saying whoever the Simms backup will be? It won’t be Daryl Hackney. He’s a nice guy…. but the Broncos don’t really expect him to do anything more than hold a clipboard.
I mean, really, I’m not sure how Simms was medically cleared to play football again after that injury. The last REAL time the guy got on the field was 3 seasons ago. The guy hasn’t taken a single shot since then.
I’m super concerned about having to watch flight for life medivac Simms out of Mile High in week 1. And, I gotta’ say, I’m not about throwing away perfectly good years of my life watching the Broncos play like next year’s #1 overall pick was the prise! The idea of having to dump a franchise quarterback sickens me.
Every blogger in MHR knows the defense has to improve and is mock drafting their favorite D-player. I say look for a pick on offense. I’ve resigned myself to the idea that McBungle’s main MO after he was unable to get Cassel was to push Jay out. The chemistry in his mind is bad and it’s a convenient excuse for his offensive-oriented brain to use the Denver #1 pick on offense (in a year when the Broncos clearly/desperately need defensive help).

IMHO I liked what Pat Kirwan said about Cutler that he was worth 2 1st round picks.
If we run from there, say if the Jets trade for him – we would get the #17 in round 1 as well as 2 other picks in lower rounds. (SWG gave us an equivalent value in another post today.) This would give us 3 extra picks. The signing of another veteran QB sounds sensible and using the picks to bolster not only the D but the OL as well. Maybe a RB and most probably another QB in the later rounds.
My sense is that the Jets make the strongest play for him – they need a QB. SF a little less and the Bears – who would love to get him – may not be willing to part with the picks or the personnel to land him. It would mean continual playoffs to them.
by Blackknigh on Apr 1, 2009 1:56 AM MDT reply actions 0 recs
Would those two 1st round picks be Leinart and Vince Young?
VY was drafted #3 and Leinart was drafted #10. Would any MHR blogger really say that we would get good value if we traded Jay for Leinart and VY? No, I didn’t think so.
What we need is a proven player approaching his prime in addition to a couple of #1’s. For instance, the trading partner should throw in one of their starters in the front seven.
I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

gah, the owner and coaches don’t care. the fans are the only ones Cutler is punishing with this prima donna, drama queen BS. the same ones who supported him in 07 when his performance was so erratic cause of his diabetes, the same ones who’ve supported him all along. not that i don’t understand his being upset about the trade talks and all, but come on, he couldve dropped it after the apology, couldn’t he? and sure McDaniels doesnt need to be aggravating him, but seriously, couldn’t Jay have just decided to be the better man about it for the sake of his fans and his team? Did he have to throw a big ol’ temper tantrum? what’s he gonna do next? hold his breath til he turns blue?
my god will we ever get a QB who acts somewhat less like a whiny b***h than your average 15 year old girl?
i’ve been a Cutler fan for a while now…and i had really hoped they would all be mature about this and work things out, but i guess that’s not gonna happen. don’t really care where he goes if he leaves, just hope he eventually realizes what a jerk he’s been to his fans…and hope they have a lot of patience, they’ll need it to deal with his immaturity.

I think the Skins
Denver probably could get 2 #1’s and Campbell. Plus Snyder is gonna try and get Shanny for 2010. Personally I would like to get a #1 from Cleve, Shaun Rodgers, and Quinn. But Jay dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. I never knew Denver drafted jeff George. Nobody with a 17-20 record should wield this much power. If he was the great QB he thinks so, he never would havethrown that ill times pick against the Bills and Denver would have gotten smoked by the Colts in the wild card game. I have never been more pissed at a player on my favorite team, I wasnt even this pissed when Bobby Humphreys held out in 1991.
