REPORT -- Denver Broncos agree to terms with RB Lamont Jordan
It's being reported at several different media outlets that the Denver Broncos have come to terms on a contract with RB Lamont Jordan on a 2-year deal.
The report states that a contract has yet to be signed, but the language has been agreed upon and Jordan will sign the deal later today.
Jordan, 30, spent the 2008 season with New England where he carried the ball 80 times for 363 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The 8th-year veteran was in Arizona Monday meeting with the Cardinals organization, Anderson reports.
Jordan's best season was 2005 when he rushed for 1,025 yards and scored 9 rushing TDs and two receiving TDs. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the New York Jets.
At a reported $2.5 million, the deal provides little risk to the Broncos for a player who should have some motivation to jump-start his career.

Agree!
Sign whoever you want…Dont keep them around because you know them keep them because they have won the fight and earned the spot. If this guy and Hillis get the same amount of reps I got my money on Hillis!!!! Other than that I dont really like former Raiders coming to Mile High…

That's fine
but remember, we only have 80 slots to fill on opening day of Training Camp. For each of these FA somebody is going to have to go. I think we all want to see Hillis, Torrain, Pinnock. Do we really have room for a 30 year old RB?

we have nine draft picks
and 11 free agent signings so far, + at least one in the works, which gets us pretty close to the number of guys that we basically fired (cut or are letting walk in UFA) which was tentatively around 22 last I checked.
In other words we are about 20+ players short of hitting our ceiling. Those spots will be filled by reserve/futures players, College free agents, and whatever additional signings we manage.
This will all change soon, I’m sure, just pointing out how bad we were last year! :)

Will we be playing our home games in Foxborough this year?
Not complaining just joking really. But honestly is this regular when you get a new head coach for him to bring so many players from the former organization? As a bronco fan of 25 years I’ve seen 3 head coaches so it’s hard to say from experience. I do recall Reeve’s taking some guys with him and Kubes too, but Mcdaniels seems to really be going after alot of former Pats….

Maybe so,
but you’re really fishing by comparing Parcels to Mcdaniels. Hopefully they have alot in common with regards to their ability to recognize talented personelle! But my concern is that it may be a stretch to say this is normal and we are picking up guys that are best suited to put on an orange jersey.
Of course, if we do have a “300” atmosphere at training camp, that renders all these arguments moot. Let’s hope that happens.

It's not uncommon at all
Look at the people Kubiak and Smith took with them to the Texans. Look at Willie McGinest lured to the Browns by Romeo. Look at Trent Green and (temporarily violating my own rule not to mention his name) Eddie Kennison joining Vermiel in KC.
There is nothing wrong with nabbing players that are known quantities to you as a HC. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything sentimental about these acquisitions. McD has stated he knows the one and only goal is to WIN, and is looking for an edge wherever he can find one. His familiarity with these guys can’t hurt.
I love the Lamont Jordan acquisition. He was a force for the Jets, threatened to supplant C. Martin before he was signed by Oakland, and the only reason he didn’t run roughshod for the Raiders is because they were an awful team with an awful O line. I bet he’d love nothing more than to hand them a couple of losses every year. So if he earns his spot in our backfield, I’m welcoming him with open arms!

I forgot Tim Brown to Tampa
I know none of these were long-term successes, but I would argue that they achieved their end, which is to proselytize for the merits of the system and gel the team around the new HC.

From what I can see, Josh likes familiarity, he’s signed Jordan and Gaffney for the O, Paxston on ST; I hardly call that too many Pats. Anyway, being a Bronco fan living in NE, the Broncos could use some championship-caliber influence.

Would you call interest in a familiar QB extreme
When the QB you already have is a pro-bowler. I’m aware that are alot of things about this situation that we don’t know, but this sort of recruitment based on familiarity is alarming, in spite of the fact that there are surely other motives besides familiarity.

$2.5 per, or over 2 years?
not a jordan fan, really, but good insurance for buckhalter and inexpensive, so why not. man, we are getting old in a hurry, i though we were building a team. this is more like assembling a team for now. anyway, jordan, overrated as a jet(great line back then, curtis martin wore the d out before he stepped in), and as a raider, sapp recalled he has never seen a player out of shape as bad as lamont coming back from the offseason. it took him half a year to get going, and then he “broke out”. but whatever, for depth, at the right cost, not a bad move, really. he may not make it out of preseason on the roster, anyway

Fair point about being out of shape
And I know Jordan doesn’t = Moss. But Randy didn’t exactly set the world on fire as a Raider, either. There was a distinct air of depression and lack of motivation there. It had to be hard to carry your head high for the Dumbest Team in America, I don’t care how talented or professional you are. Not an excuse, but a factor nonetheless.

strictly for depth
at 5-10 230 he provides some bulk at the back end of the RB stable. Just because he has signed doesn’t mean he will make the team.

Doesn't mean he will make the team
is correct. But he is almost assured of making the 80 man limit for training camp. One of our other runnerw will most assuredly have to go before then. This is another questionable move IMO.

When motivated Jordan is a beast. The best thing about this thing is the price. If he gets his head straight, he could be a surprise…if he doesn’t…let go in training camp.
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

H Back. Might be a reason for rumors of a Sheffler trade. Hillis is big, a better blocker, great hands and can run routes so he adds more at H Back/ TE than Sheffler.

Question
How does Michael Bush fit with what we know of the NE offense? Would McD like him? I don’t know the answer, and would be glad to listen
Happily, if Bush is available and McD feels he would fit, we can take him. There are players who will still be sacrificed, now or later, and one thing I’m getting clear on – McD won’t hesitate. He’s fairly cold blooded – which is not a good or bad, but a style – and young enough to need to make a few mistakes along the way.

on a positive note...
could this happen? “while using hillis, torain, and the air-cutler offense for 3 quarters building a lead, the broncos pounded buckhalter and jordan to the tune of 100 yards rushing in the 4th quarter to overwhelm their opponent for the 19th staight week, capping a super bowl championship in head coach josh mcdaniels first season with denver. when asked what made this all happen, the coach flatly replied "well, it wasn’t matt cassell, that’s for sure.”
is this all part of the plan? keep in mind, the offensive line was getting much better in run-blocking the 2nd half of the season, as projected. it’s just we had no healthy, good rb’s to play with, sometimes no rotation, even! young/hall/bell have been put on notice, and only 1 of them may stick, maybe young. the 2 new backs are old, but they are willing inside runners, with decent hands and low mileage. this is just another sign we are going bigger/tougher/smarter over speed, and helps with my biggest offensive problem: short-yardage/goal line conversions, running the ball inside. with hillis, torain, buckhalter and jordan on tap, we seem to have that covered. putting games away with ball-control/time of possession.
questions:
1. do the new rb’s pass-protect well?(important)
2. are they “one-cut” runners, and if not, are we going with some kinda zb/omeaba hybrid?
3. if this scenario doesn’t happen(likely), and the defense improves alot(likely), is mike nolan our hc in 2 years?

Jordan vs. Buckhalter vs. Pittman
I am happy with the pick ups of both Jordan and Buckhalter. However, I have to agree with Donkhead. Why not Pittman? Was it money. Yeah Jordan may have experience in McD’s system… but the running game is still going to be all traditional broncos game. Why else did we keep the line and rb coaches Dennison and Turner?
Not mad – Just curious. I though Pittman played with a lot of heart till he went down. We can say it is not for injuries… look at Jordan’s rap sheet.
I do love the idea of big smash mouth back though. With the freight train line up we have in our back field the AFC West Defenses had better start game planning. You will need more back ups at MLB and S. Cause our back field is filled with heavy hitters.
Bringing people in the box to stop our power run will also open up the passing lanes. I am feeling some 13-3 baby!

He looked like a bruiser to me, the antithesis of what the Raiders had been fielding up to that time, and something more comparable to KJ and LT, the two division RBs we had a miserable time stopping. Jordan made me incredibly nervous. Thank god the coaches didn’t know how to use him properly. At least, that was my impression.

In the last game he was wrinkled old vegetable in a wheelchair…need I say more?

if LJ of old comes out...
while there’s plenty of valid concerns regarding LJ, his physical conditioning, motivation, etc. I do believe we just added a sleeping monster. having watched him play at Maryland I’ve seen him devour defenses firsthand. I realize college is a totally different game, but the chance to be reborn as a monster 3rd down back at the least, and 1st string RB at best, might be the motivation he needs. I personally am giddy at the thought of LaMont lining up against the SD chumps and leaving cleat marks all over olshansky, wilhem and all the rest of those trash talking clowns. with him and buckhalter we might see the beginning of orange crush offense. smash. mouth. football. comeandgetit!

Love me some smash mouth football!
My image is the Circa 1960-’61 Broncos home uniform sock. Some what folk lore to me ... but referred to as the clown sock by my Dad.
