MHR Community Mock Draft Pick #29

With the #29 pick in the 2009 MHR Community Mock Draft, the New York Giants select.... WR, DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY, MARYLAND
|
New York Giants
Round 1, Pick #29 overall GM Russ
|
Details of the pick after the jump...
From GM Russ: With Plaxico Burress finally gone, the Giants lack a go-to wide receiver. None of the current WRs on the roster appear capable of being the main target for Manning. Heyward-Bey could easily turn into the main threat that the Giants now need--Heyward-Bey being quite a vertical threat. This is a risky pick, but the Giants can probably afford a little risk in the first round. Kenny Britt also received consideration here, but Heyward-Bey stood out just a little bit more.
Commish's Thoughts: If replacing burress is the order for the day, Darrius is about as close as they can come in the first round. I agree with the thought that the Giants have earned the right to take a risk or two while working towards maintaining their roster, and they could make out like bandits on this pick.

My pick is in

"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem" - Duffman
"Good, bad, I'm the one with the gun, A-hole" - Ash from Army of Darkness
Itchy trigger finger is right!
I’ll post it after Bear and NYC’s latest post has some time to percolate. Frankly, I wasn’t surprised by your pick, based on the posts you have put up…
Amnesty, the idea that you can forgive transgressions against you, gives as much to one side, as it does the other. It has the noble quality of bestowing mercy to both parties.

I would guess either Ayers or Jackson.
And if so, I’m going to be very curious to see how you decide between them.

I'm not overly concerned with this pick
however, I really think the Giants are armed with plenty of trade bait and I still think they will make a move for Boldin or Edwards. At least that’s what I’d do if I were them….

They wont draft a WR
My money is on them trading a for either Chad Johnson or Boldin. Historically the Giants dont draft WR’s with their first picks. Plus Coughlin is an old school guy who will go with defense, or tough players.
somethings wrong, Trying to conquer these fears i thought were gone. And it's been so long, I'm dying to live in a world i don't belong

And here's the other thing...
it’s not like they don’t have WRs waiting in the wing (Manningham, Smith, Hixon, Moss). There was a reason the Giants drafted/acquired those guys. Is any of them a true #1? Perhaps not today, but then again, our very own BMARSH wasn’t a true #1 (it was Javon Walker) until he broke out a couple of seasons ago and became one. Plus, I don’t see Heyward-Bey as a #1 ready out of the gate. A year or two from now, def, but not next season. If the Giants want to fill their #1 slot with a true, ready to go #1 WR, then they have to trade for Braylon Edwards, Anquan and I guess Ocho (although I don’t like his game all that much).
