Building My Mock Draft...
Hey everyone, I am in the process of building my final mock draft by the 23rd. My goal though is to have you help. I really want to know your opinions and thoughts on my picks before the draft so I can learn more. I know a fair amount but there is always room to know more about what you are doing. This is very preliminary, these picks and I want you to help.
Every single pick you hate or dislike I want you to tell me why. Poke every single hole in my argument you can. Go in depth. For every single pick you like or you think would happen tell me exactly why. I will have it up on my own site Bronco Madness by the 23rd and I hope by a couple of times doing this, we together could build a more accurate draft. I trust your opinions.
Here is how it will go:
1st Draft: The players, tell me what you like and don't like. Go in depth
In 4 days 2nd Draft: Explanations for each pick. Tell me why I am wrong or right.
In 8 days, final draft: Any last problems, I should be close to my final decision.
Remember be as critical as humanely possible. I want you to really dig deep and tell me why or why not. Hopefully I will get some good replies and add your opinions into my draft, citing you of course. So break free and work with me on this. Feel free to be stubborn!
1. B.J Raji, DT, Boston College
1. Aaron Maybin, OLB/DE, Penn St.
2. Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose St.
3. Darry Beckwith, ILB, LSU
3. Louis Murphy, WR, Florida
4. Sherrod Martin, CB/S, Troy
5. Curtis Painter, QB, Purdue
6. Mortty Ivy, OLB, West Virgina
7. Brandon Walker, OG, Oklahoma
7. Kendell-Davis Clark, CB, Michigan St.
Oh and one more thing. Don't just say whether it is good or bad. You can tell me that but make sure you explain why. I would love it if you could break down your opinions on each pick too but I don't expect that. Thanks again!

seems ok...
but there’s no way gilbert lasts till the third. there’s talk of him going in the second, maybe even the first
I like this mock a lot.
Maybin makes me nervous and I wonder if we can afford to experiment with him. He is a classic high-risk high-reward type player. I am also not sure about Painter in the 5th. It seems to me he will be around in the sixth or seventh? Also, I would try to address our offensive line a little earlier.
Finally, if you are going to go with both Maybin and Gilbert, understand that they are both experiments. Both MAY have major upside, but both may also be major busts. I don’t mind going with one of them but going with both within our first three picks could hurt our overall draft.
all very good points...
I considered in taking Everette Brown over Aaron Maybin assuming that they both are risk/reward type players at the same position. The reason that I chose against it though was that Brown while probably a bit safer is not as rewarding. So it is based on your outlook on that.
As for Gilbert, I know that everyone says he is a major risk but I don’t see it. To me he isn’t that much of a risk. He is a physical beast who has also proven a lot on the field and I feel relatively safe about picking over a Michael Johnson type player.
Thanks for the reply.

Very nice except...
Maybin. Maybin will take a few years to develop, he needs to bulk up a little and become more disciplined. I really like the rest of the picks though, if Jackson is gone at 18, i take Cushing or Rey.

I have them both gone actually.
Cushing to the Packers and Maualuga to the Chargers. So it was either him or Everette Brown or James Laurinaitis. But I don’t like Laurinaitis in the 3-4 so I am going for Maybin at this point but it could change to Brown. That is the joy of building a mock draft.

Regarding Maybin and discipline
When i first looked at him, I had the same exact thoughts you did. When he Came out early, my first thought was that he was leaving too soon, and I didn’t like his reasoning.
And while I still think he needs to keep growing (his genes are still working on that) and buling up (and keeping ont he weight, very important), I am beginning to look past the discipline issue. He showed up and acted like a pros pro at every event he has attended since his college career ended. I think he got his mind right and it shows in his professionalism so far. he will need to maintain it of course, but we can accurately say that he understands and values that standard.
All that said, I’ll still pass on him. :)

I hate being the one to say this...
but I agree with swg777, I think Painter may be around still in the 6th…
