All this QB-in-the-1st (and trading up) talk is really beginning to grate.
Thanks, NYC.

Good Morning nyc, Thanx for Horse Tracks...

DRAFT!!
The Broncos will NOT draft a QB in the first round. The thing about Josh is that he is confident in his abilities to mold a QB, so I feel he will draft a QB in the late rounds a la Cassel and teach him the system. McDaniels always said if a trade benefits the team he will make the trade and this trade might have weakened our QB position but made us better as a team if we draft defensive starters with those picks. I don’t think our offense skips a beat and the D will be improved. We can have a big year a la Dolphins, Falcons. GO BRONCOS!!!
I could see them trading up....
to get Raji or Orakpo. I just don’t see any value in trading up to get a QB.

DE Brandon Williams
What are the Broncos bringing him in to find out about, I wonder? I dismissed him very early in the process because he is a slow “speed guy” who is somewhere in between a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB, but lacking the best of both worlds. He did have some production late in his Red Raider career, but teams will run right at him. He would have to fall a long ways down the board to have any value, and even then I would pause… Maybe they want to see if he would make a good CFA pickup?
Amnesty, the idea that you can forgive transgressions against you, gives as much to one side, as it does the other. It has the noble quality of bestowing mercy to both parties.

Sanchez - NO!
Using any first round draft pick to take a college junior with only 15 carreer starts is about the dumbest thing we could do when we need impact defensive players in the front 7 to form a strong base for this defense for years to come.
I don’t think McDaniels is that crazy. Plus his background would suggest that he, unlike a lot of people here, is not about to panic over the QB situation and let that force him into a wasted show pick just to add a game day inactive 3rd QB to the roster unless that pick comes after the third round.
I could see him taking Bohmar, or someone similar if he things the kid has the skills needed to work in this offense. If someone like that is not there in the later rounds, pickup a QB project in next years draft.
Simms and Orton are both in their twenties still and have good years left. If they pick up the offense as anticipated, they will be here for some time and look to see Orton’s contract done during the season this year unless he’s a complete bust, which I don’t see happening.
You will need a rookie project by 2010 if because both Simms and Orton will not be here past then. One of them will be moving on and we will be needing to groom a replacement.
In the meantime, a Nose tackle , a true pass rusher and LB help is the immediate needs for impact players in this draft. I would like to see at least 4 of the first 5 picks spent in this area, if not all 5. After that, you can tinker with depth at WR, running back, safety or even QB.

late round QB
I think it will one of these three, Bomar, Harrell, or McGee. I personally like Harrell but not too many Tech QBs do much in the NFL, but he plated the spread and he has decent arm strength. Bomar has a cannon arm but I don’t think he’s as accurate as Harrell. I know they had McGee in for a workout so he’s in the mix but he ran an option offense in college and when they switched to pro style he got hurt so I don’t know too much about him.
Nice stat from Klis
Check out this three-week stretch of statistics directly before his injury: 301.0 passing yards per game, five touchdown passes, no interceptions and a 106.2 rating. And that was while playing quarterback for defensive- minded head coach Lovie Smith.
Again, with our pass protection, Orton may not be Elway but he should be effective. Time will tell.

Glenn Dickey..
…is an idiot. I’m glad with all the turmoil in our world some things remain predictable and consistent. Been suffering through him for years up here in the bay area. He looks like C Everett Koop, who is probably just as accurate in his sports predictions.
