MHR Community Mock Draft--Pick #34

With the #34 pick in the 2009 MHR Community Mock Draft, the New England Patriots select....

OLB, CONNOR BARWIN, CINCINNATI

New England Patriots

Round 2, Pick #34 overall

Details of the pick after the jump...

Star-divide

Linebacker nobility

From the GM:  Barwin could be a clone of Mike Vrabel, except that he is younger, faster, and in the final analysis, perhaps more talented.

After shipping Vrabel out, the opportunity to replace him without missing a beat is too tempting to pass up.  Barwin has a lot of upside rushing the passer, is a solid technician who gets better nearly every time he touches the field, and on top of that he is no stranger to offense, having played TE for 3 years in college.

The Patriots look for proven, productive, hardworking guys with character (just like Denver is about to start doing), and Barwin meeets these needs in spades.  Despite only a year at DE, he still managed to produce, starting slowly and then catching on.  All told, he started all four years at Cincinnati, so he has the all around football experience and has proven he belongs on the field.  He is also a passionate football player with zero character concerns and no off field problems (hard to have off-field problems when your favorite hobby is breaking down game film).

It is the Patriots job to make the rest of the league sadder.  Every other GM should be wearing a frown after losing out on this pick...

The Pats are going to swipe a lot of players McD wants with their three second-rounders

Good thing we get to pick twice before they grab their first player….

Good pick

At 23, Barwin would’ve been a reach; 34 is just right for Connor. I like Laurinaitis at 23 is just right, too. Get some youth at ILB and prepare for the eventual departure of Bruschi.
