MHR Community Mock Draft Pick #17

With the #17 pick in the 2009 MHR Community Mock Draft, the New York Jets select....

QB, MARK SANCHEZ, USC

New York Jets

Round 1, Pick #17 overall

GM danelama

Details of the pick after the jump...

Star-divide

Port in a storm, or something more?

From GM danelama:  The Jets didnt think Mark would fall to them, but their happy he did.

Sanchez is probably the most intelligent QB in this years class. Playing out of USC's pro-style offense, Sanchez excelled at reading defenses and properly going through his progressions. Is always looking around the whole field, keeping his face mask square with the line of scrimmage. Good arm strength to make just about any throw. Put passes in good spots to receivers to make easy catches. Accurate passer when he's moving to either the left or the right. Has quick feet to get into position to make throws. Makes quick decisions and is a smart player. Team captain as a junior.

Commish's Thoughts:  Back to back Trojans was bound to happen somewhere in this draft.  I like the commish's reasoning behind the pick, and of the QBs available, I would say that Sanchez might have the most "game."  And #17 for a guy who would have been acceptable in the top 10?  Sounds like a great deal.  With the Cutler mess involving the Jets to some degree, as a possible destination, the Jets certainly have a number of options to choose from at the spot going forward.  Who knows, maybe this will be the Bronc's pick come Draft Day?

*****

ON THE CLOCK

Denver Broncos are up next.  Chicago traded out of the spot in order to land Cutler, so it looks like waiting a day may have helped our draft to be the best it could be!  Draftivus is unstoppable, you hear me??  UNSTOPPABLE!!!

The deadline for this pick is NOON MST, April 3rd.  As long as I receive the pick by that time it will be valid.  To send me the pick, just email me at the address shown in my profile.

I am not sold on Sanchez or any other QB, for that matter

But I agree if he is there, then the NY Jets would likely take him, so good pick.

Off topic but Raji failed drug test

maybe he will fall to the 12th spot. now Him and Thomas will work well together

Romanowski for President! He played with a mean streak.

i want character guys.

Maualuga and Knowshon Moreno would be my most favoritist picks this year!

Merry Draftivus all!

I agree

I used to be a Raji fan and we need a NT but I think the Broncos are thinking the same way — character guys, guys you can rely on, etc. Don’t think he’s their type. He may fall a lot farther than 12th. I’d be happy with Rey and Knowshon.

So any word what the substance was

Cause definately doesn’t look like he is taking any diet pills. I think Raji might slip further than 12, I would not mind him at 18 if he comes clean.

It was classified as a "street drug"

which means it wasn’t a dietary supplement or weight loss gig or anything like that. He goes into the mandatory testing program now,a nd if he fails any of these random tests in his first (3 years I think?) then he will be suspended.

Solid Pick.

I hate when people say I don’t like X position from Y school. I understand that may merit additional scrutiny, it’s no reason to rule people out.

Also, I’m wondering if my new sig is operational…

I'm late to the party on this one

but I think this would be the best case scenario for Sanchez (although I also can’t see him falling this far). taken much earlier by a team with less offensive talent and he will have to carry too much of the burden too quickly IMO.

That’s how USC QBs get ruined (also IMO).
