Smoke and Mirrors: Tactics for a new regime

Amid the smoke and mirrors this off season has cast there is doubt and it is justified. You can side with McDaniels (or the organization, as people like to say) or Cutler but you can't pretend there isn't a whole lot that you don't know. There will be a lot of my opinion in this article but the fact is McDaniels and possibly the entire organization has been lying not just to Cutler but to the fans for quite some time. It's as clear as the backpedaling statements, tongue in cheek meetings and the half-hearted optimism that McDaniels has unfolded. Jay Cutler's made poor choices since and may flap his gums too often but he has never given anyone a reason to doubt that every word he breathed was true or at the very least believed to be true. This whole scandal has taken a direction today but is it as clear as the writing on every front page?

Star-divide

The question I have had since last nights statement from Bowlen is, why would you say that? I know the trade value is going to be pretty high no matter what but why even risk lowering it at all let alone what I would say is the equivalent to keying your car before while trying to trade it in, it's not any worse under the hood but the salesman saw you do it and he can't just let it slide. It sounds fishy but it also isn't really beneficial to anyone in my opinion so let's drop it into Bowlen's seemingly endless jar of mistakes made this year.

Today even bigger questions have risen, why is it that Jay or his people say he received none of those calls which Bowlen emphasized as the reason to trade him? I don't believe Jay to be a liar, what does it matter to him though if he is getting the trade he asked for? Did Jay and Bus bluff a trade demand for a contract extension? That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is everything else. If they tried to call him all week why is it that the word I was hearing since the statements by McDaniels that Jay was their QB and wouldn't be traded was that the Broncos were attempting to let things calm down and let cooler heads prevail? If this is true and if Bus Cook did receive the first call in days from Bowlen saying he needed to speak to Cutler, how does him leaving a message and not yet hearing back from Jay himself communicate to Bowlen that Jay has no interest in being a Bronco? If Bowlen hadn't pulled the trigger so quickly this could all be resolved, if the organization had any interest in keeping Jay yesterday this could still be resolved.

The question is now, has there ever from day one of this mess been an interest in keeping Jay Cutler? It is starting to look like McDaniels is wagging the dog. Bowlen is not a great owner to the fan or to the team, he is a great owner to the coach, he makes it so easy to run the ship. Bowlen said this is his team and what has he done? Passed the wheel again. McDaniels is doing what he wants without anyone to answer to and that isn't the change we were supposed to buy into. Jay will play for the Broncos if he is taken off the block, in fact if they wanted to they could play it off as them taming Cutler. No new contract, no more whining, Cutler will have broke and McDaniels will have won. It could even work out as an example that the team is bigger than the player. But that isn't McDaniels endgame, his has always been to get rid of Jay Cutler and install someone he wants for whatever selfish purpose. None of this is what is in the best interest of the team. I started this out as not knowing where I stand but over the course of day I feel as though the picture has become more clear. The trade request being a bluff is obvious with the recent statements from Jay saying he never wanted this to happen, he never thought it would get this far. I can already hear smart ass out there saying well then why did you demand a trade but he expected to be called and after last weeks statements it looked like it was working so why would a guy who was waiting for a call to come, not answer his phone? I'd really like to see those phone records Mr. Bowlen, oh and in detail please. I can't call it a fact but it is my hard belief that last weeks statements were bogus and they wanted to make things look like they were going to be fine, Jay wouldn't call because his bluff was working out, they waited long enough and then made a move in an effort to show they valued Cutler, but couldn't keep him. Which looks now like devaluing him but if in reality they have no interest in keeping him it could in their view be their way of increasing trade value.

It's not over but it doesn't look good, Cutler is my QB and even if he has to leave he'll always be a Bronco, no one will fill his shoes for quite some time. Josh McDaniels is not a Bronco and win or lose he'll never be a Bronco in my eyes.

Love........Hope ...............Hero......--Very Good Post.......

As I watch this, “WHAT’S UP WITH THIS!!”"…and hope for the best.

The best is now only what we can hope for…funny change…the best for next season is now confused. I, when McDaniels started the confusion, thought of him as Mc Donkey……………

I hate myself for being right

Do not hate Bowlen
he was also decieved

I am now very confused.

But I will respond that I don’t hate Bowlen, I just haven’t thought much of him in awhile, he isn’t the owner he once was and who he is now is not going to help our team. He may have had his hand forced by his new coach but it’s his pride that is going to hurt the Broncos now and in the future.

Seriously?

I am starting to believe that their is no hope for the Cutler camp apologists. When the facts aren’t convenient, you resort to speculation; and when that gets dicey, you get angry. None of your “opinions” make sense. The only thing that I agree with is the conflation of the phrase “smoke and mirrors” and the CCA meme.

All the facts that are available...

and there are very few in the first place, are in favor of Cutler. Not one thing your opinion is based on is more than blind faith in a team you love. I love the team but I won’t let that cloud my judgement. I’m sorry you can’t see how you have no facts backing your opinion.

Really?

March 17th: “Cutler instructed [his agent Bus] Cook, who also attended the meeting, to formally request a trade”.
March 17th: “The Denver Broncos confirm that Jay Cutler has requested a trade,” team spokesman Jim Saccomano told The Associated Press.
March 31st: “Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded".
April 1st: "”I didn’t want to get traded".

Look, you can claim all you want the McD, Xanders and Bowlen are the only ones that have been caught in lies, but the truth is that this is the only absolute example of that and it’s Jay’s pants that are on fire. Believe him and Cook over the Broncos organization all you want, but your camp is shrinking by the day as this drama moves along.

Let me add...

I am not at all saying that my view is 100% backed by facts it is very much based on my own conjecture but unless you were in the rooms with or are McDaniels or Bowlen your opinion must be 100% assumption, because there is nothing fact based in public to support it. The fact I used to guide me is the constant lies McDaniels has been caught in, lies he told the press and Jay Cutler. You won’t find a proven lie as of the time I write this from Jay Cutler, and don’t say, “I didn’t want to be traded” was a lie. Cutler asked for a trade he isn’t denying that he is just admitting his bluff.

I wonder

How you feel that McDaniels has “forced” any of this? Cutler has proven to feel nothing short of disappointed that the coach that drafted him was let go. This is understandable, but Bowlen did what he viewed as the best option for a team stuck in a rut. Hoping to reinvigorate a team that was nothing short of mediocre the last three seasons, McD was hired.

Cutler wanted to retain his coaches, a sense of familiarity in a system that sent Cutler to a prowbowl, but left him and the team watching the playoffs from home. Then the now infamous phone call. I more or less read into this as nothing more than interest for a proven commodity in a winning system that can take time to master. The trade NEVER OCCURED, atleast not yet, but the seed had already been planted. Cutler now makes a power play himself, claiming distrust for an organization and a coach that believes in wins over individuals, loyalty for a player that has not proven anything to his new coach… Sad. This is where I lose confidence in Cutler, and where I find a new respect for a coach and a team that is unwilling to allow a single player to hold and entire team hostage.

I also wonder why you feel that Cutler is and always will be a Bronco after 3 mediocre years, though one with inflated stats yet no playoffs. Do you not feel that Jake Plummer is still a Bronco considering he played four years with the Broncos in which we reached the playoffs each year?

Had Jay led us to ONE playoff game, this would not be an issue, but the bottom line is that McD is now the coach, and I support decisions made based upon what he knows will produce wins. Cutler has yet to learn what it is to win, and has proven that he is more concerned with his himself than what is best for the team.

I like you a lot better then the last guy.

My opinion of Bowlen being forced is about the hiring of McDaniels and the new coach’s way of doing things thus far which I feel is detrimental to the team. McDaniels created this situation and if I go based on who has been proven to be dishonest, and I do, he never seemed to try to fix it and I believe he never wanted to. Bowlen is forced to let McDaniels run the show because he can’t afford to second guess his new coach so early in his tenure giving him no real chance to keep Cutler.

Cutler isn’t the reason we haven’t gone to the playoffs with the exception of his rookie season, Plummer would have got us in but Shanny let the rookie play and what happened, happened. Cutler is a great Bronco and in his brief time in Denver he did all he could for the franchise I love, he would have won us Super Bowls and I rarely forget Broncos I like, Jay will be the biggest loss to this franchise not due to retirement. Jake was my guy to the bitter end and I still think the world of the guy, I still like Brian Griese but let’s face it the talent difference between them all is large.

Josh McDaniels is not a proven commodity, he has made decisions that are sketchy at best and he has a record that reads all zeroes at the moment. He ran an offense that broke records with the most potent weapons in the league at his disposal and ran an offense with a benchwarmer and a bunch of all-stars to a winning record but not the playoffs. Jeremy Bates ran a offense that was extremely potent a half decent defense and we wouldn’t have a new coach. Spagnuolo was the choice we should have made, Bates should be running our offense and we should all be happy. Instead we broke what was working and we may not see any real improvement on defense. McDaniels has a lot more to prove than Jay Cutler, without Jay he has written his own pink slip and sealed the Broncos fate. The one man who has put himself above the team is the man you are siding with.

I’m sure I haven’t convinced you but that is pretty much the human condition everyone forms an opinion and sticks to it, consider this, if people didn’t desperately want to go home juries would be hung forever. I have to get a little sleep so I can be an attentive parent for my son today. I’ll be sure to check back in though.

Nice answer.

And I agree (except for the Griese part, that guy was a waste of time).

This has been the worst 3 month period in Broncos history, not just for the present situation, but for the long term consequences it will have on the organization.

Now we’re forced to go “all in” with a rookie HC (from Bilicheck’s coahing tree!!) and no QB. Not a sound bet IMO and one we will all regret before very long.

by Elway's Ghost on Apr 2, 2009 7:38 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thank you.

You’ll have to excuse my opinion of Griese, I really more than anything wanted to like him and will always remember the Oakland game when he came back in injured and rallied the team. Of course my dad, god rest his soul, hated Griese and had wanted Plummer to be Denver’s quarterback since we watched him come back against UCLA. I told him it would never happen, obviously it did and I moved on and accepted Plummer, my father of course hated the guy. I only hope my dad would have hated Cutler because then I could rest assure we were going to trade up, I believe however that Cutler was just the type of QB my dad was waiting to show up.

by Love Hope Hero on Apr 2, 2009 11:09 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I loved Plummer also

Seriously, the guy had such a competitive streak and was just fun to watch, mistakes et all.

I was actually very upset when we started Cutler in 06. I did not feel it was fair to Plummer, and I also did not think it was fair to Cutler to be thrust into such a position, but Plummer handled it the best way he could and decided to man up and be the best mentor possible, or that his ego allowed. This is why I like Plummer, and this is what I fail to see in Cutler. You face tough decision, adversity, things that you might not want to hear, or like to hear, and you come out the other side a better person because you faced them like the adult or professional that you are.

As for Jeremy Bates, well… I did not like the majority of his play calling towards the middle to the end of the season. The Broncos started hot, but only stayed hot for a short period of time. There are many contributing factors to this decline, the most obvious being the running back situations as well as the defense, but one thing is for sure, play calling became to predictable and stagnant, as the season went on.

As for my comment on proven commodities, I was actually referring to Cassel, who is proven in the Patriots and McDaniels, system. I merely believe that it might take time for a new QB, even with all of Jays skill sets, to adopt this system. McDaniels should not be burned at the stake for showing interest in Cassel because he has proven that he can win with Cassel. Granted they did not get into the playoffs, but an 11-5 record was certainly better than the Broncos record. The Pats started slow last year, but they did finish stronger than they started which is a sign of progression that the Broncos did NOT show.

I can understand why you are upset, Cutler is a rare talent, but I disagree that McDaniels is placing himself above the team in the same respect that Cutler is. The coach is supposed to be above the team to a certain extent, in order to make tough decisions that will benefit the team, decisions that no player is at right to, or responsible to make. Cutler is now acting like he is above the team, holding out of voluntary mini camps, staying away from Denver and his teammates, creating added drama to what was a closed issue. This obviously has not played out the way the Broncos wanted it to, as well as how Cutler wanted it to, but the team moved on, whereas Cutler will not move on. Sure, McDaniels made a mistake showing interest in a player that he TRUSTED to run his offense in Cassel, something that Cutler has still yet to earn. I think, if anything, McD underestimated how this whole situation would pan out, but that is understandable for a rookie head coach. Cutler has not shown the ability to move on, which is a red flag to any fan or coach, or owner.

I think Plummer handled things well...

but his statements in retrospect are no better than Cutler’s way of handling things, I do agree that pulling Plummer was a huge mistake. Bates was far from perfect but I believe his play calling to be on the same level as McDaniels they just worked with different weapons. Cassel’s still a benchwarmer in my book, Kansas City doesn’t have enough weapons to protect him let alone make him look good, but time will tell. Sure the coach is obviously above the team in an authority aspect but he hasn’t made the team better and his pride over Cassel has placed our team in disarray.

Hers a great scenario from a blogger from Tampa Bay. He is not a Denver supporter. Thanks OLDTIMER!

Well, we keep hearing that Cutler is a “Franchise” quarterback. Earlier Coach Morris talked about not really knowing if a guy is a franchise quarterback until he gets an opportunity. As an example he said ’ Who knew who Matt Cassell was before last year?" This is a great point, I can tell you who knew. The QB coach Josh McDaniel knew. Now McDaniel is a smart guy because he coached Cassell and helped him become a 14 million dollar player. Here’s the problem. When McDaniel got to Denver he had meetings with Cutler and talked football philosophy and playbooks and formations . . . McDaniel didn’t come out of those meetings and say " Wow! I’m so lucky to have another franchise QB in Cutler." No. Instead he came out of those meetings saying “Oh my God, I better trade this guy and see if I can get Matt Cassell!” McDaniels fielded trade offers from the Bears, Lions, Bucks and Vikings. The Vikings were ready to offer a deal but their coaching staff readily agreed with McDaniels and thought “this guy is NOT a franchise QB!” So any team that surrenders 2 1st rounders for this guy is NUTS! I guess that just leaves Dan Snyder on the short list.

THIS IS A VERY LIKELY SCENARIO!

Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.

by boydy2669 on Apr 2, 2009 6:51 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I still don't know who Cassel is...

I know he faired pretty well in New England but can anyone be sure Ryan Leaf wouldn’t have flourished in the same situation? 14 Million for a guy who in all likelihood is less or only as talented as the guy the Chiefs should have stuck with Tyler Thigpen, will there be a QB competition? Yes, but it will just be for show, Cassel is making the big bucks and money spends better on the field. The idea that Cassel and Cutler are comparable is a work of fiction and the fact that McDaniels believes his own hype is precisely why he is going to fail. I would rather have Simms than Cassel and I think Simms is overrated, always have.

Done with Blame and Speculation

I am done with trying to figure this out and pointing fingers. It is a big mess. All of the parties involved had a hand in creating the mess. No one is blameless. No one is entirely to blame. I believe that they could still salvage the situation, but I am not sure any of the parties wants to at this point.

Three weeks to the draft. Go Broncos!

Keep Moving Forward.

by ColoradoOwl on Apr 2, 2009 8:07 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

I'll agree with one thing.

There is a whole lot we the fans don’t know about. Trying to use logic to figure this mess out is kind of like using logic to figure out who has the better poker hand based on player chatter.

At this point I won’t be surprised at any resolution of this situation. If Jay is brought back into the fold I’ll be happy and welcome him back. If Jay ends up playing for the Browns or Lions or Redskins I’ll wish him well and root for the Broncos.

I look forward to resolution, any resolution, so we can again focus on football, i.e. the draft and training camps.

And whichever resolution is found, I wish all parties well, and the Denver Broncos the best. Since a trade seems so likely, I’m hoping Denver does as well as SD did when they traded Eli to the Giants. In the end, that worked out well for all sides.

by CoastalBronco on Apr 2, 2009 10:11 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Couldn't disagree more with you

“… Cutler is my QB and even if he has to leave he’ll always be a Bronco, no one will fill his shoes for quite some time. Josh McDaniels is not a Bronco and win or lose he’ll never be a Bronco in my eyes.”

I could puke at this. Cutler is NOT a Bronco…he has not wanted to be one for some time now. The only reason no one will be able to fill his shoes is because they are too freaking small…the QBs we have won’t be wearing size 1T.

McDaniels is doing his job as our coach…his IS most certainly a Bronco.

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

by sadaraine on Apr 2, 2009 9:42 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Four straight comments made sense, is that a record?

I don’t believe for a second that Cutler wanted out, he bluffed, maybe you don’t like him for that but it isn’t uncommon or wrong. McDaniels has done something thus far but if it’s his job then we still don’t have a head coach and we might want to rethink hiring McDaniels as a Patriot version of queer eye because the make over is a little bit weak and about to get a whole lot worse.

P|L|H

by Love Hope Hero on Apr 2, 2009 11:32 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Huh?

You don’t believe he wanted out? Are you even kidding me. He asked to be traded. That would be wanting out any way you shake it. If you want to call that a bluff then I want to play poker with you really REALLY bad for money.

As far as McDaniels I’ll just say that you have no realistic viewpoint on a head coaches job and leave it at that.

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

I'm glad you want to play...

have you ever heard of bluffing against your strength? Casual players will attempt to look strong in the face of weakness. The best appear to look weak to downplay their strength, it’s also called baiting. That’s how you take down a cocky opponent. Cutler’s bluff was strength on strength the only fault in his bluff was that Bowlen and McDaniels didn’t have an interest in playing (although they appeared to,) which is shocking considering they can’t come out of this with a better or comparable offense. I know that McDaniels has yet to perform his actual job as of yet. He has however used the power that comes with it, in Denver at least, to make an abundance of mistakes. Here’s a hint: you should fold.

because you did try to type something in english. You are incorrect, the trade talks caused a lack of trust a new contract would allow trust to be returned, the bluff was to force an extension. It’s all moot now but you never quite grasped it.

The McMaster Plan

Before Bolen’s coach was even hired, his plan for improving our defense was TO TRADE OUR QB FOR MULTIPLE DRAFT PICKS. They are apparently doing a great job of maximizing his trade value while getting the fans on their side. I do not agree with this plan for improving our team at all, but The Coach has it all going his way. Keep Cutler on our team. You do not have to trade him.

by grumpa on Apr 2, 2009 10:30 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

If he wants to be here

Then why isn’t he actually here, talking to both Bowlen and McDaniels? They are his bosses, let’s not forget.

Where is the guy? Why isn’t he here?

In my eyes, actions speak louder than words, and Cutler’s actions have said “I don’t want to be a Bronco any more!” loud and clear. Sucks, but there it is.

As a Bronco fan, I’m moving on with the team- not with any particular player, coach, or owner. That’s what I think a fan of the team does.

by AllBroncsallday on Apr 2, 2009 11:15 AM MDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't get me wrong, I'll always be a Broncos fan...

I’m just never going to follow blindly and I’ll always question the brass because they owe all of us answers, that is a fact. Owners and coaches will always answer to the people because you can’t own a team anymore than you can own the streets. Perhaps Jay should fly back to Denver now but him being at home until now was to serve a purpose. It appears he overestimated how much the Broncos wanted him to be their QB. Pretty dumb right? I mean what with all the we won’t trade Jay, he’s our QB talk that had been spewed out over the past week.

P|L|H

by Love Hope Hero on Apr 2, 2009 11:43 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

What purpose?

What purpose did it serve for him to be basically unreachable for the last month?

It sent a message- “I don’t to be there”.

You don’t ignore your billionaire boss without consequence. Jay’s an employee, that’s the bottom line.

If Jay really wanted to be here, if Jay was truly “shocked” by Bowlen’s statement that the team will try to accomodate Jay’s request for a trade, then why isn’t he here talking face to face with his bosses?

by AllBroncsallday on Apr 2, 2009 11:49 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

First of all...

prove without a shadow of a doubt Jay has been unreachable. The purpose of staying away was to get a renegotiated contract, money being less important than job security, and the Broncos really made it look like it was working publicly and then suddenly pulled a 360. I know you don’t ignore your billionaire boss, that’s why I’m not convinced Jay did that. Pride? I can’t really say. Maybe he’s burning up the phone lines, maybe he is buying a ticket as we speak. Maybe he was told he wouldn’t be seen. I won’t even pretend I have an answer.

by Love Hope Hero on Apr 2, 2009 11:59 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't have to

It only matters that one guy thought that. Pat Bowlen, the billionaire owner/boss in this scenario.

As an employee, you have to be accessible to the boss, wouldn’t you agree? Doesn’t sound like the boss thinks that’s been the case here.

Bus Cook told the story that the FO had called him on Tuesday the 31st, telling him that “Mr. Bowlen needs to speak to Jay now.” Cook tells them “Hey, the only thing I can do is leave a message. I can’t talk to him directly.”

In this day of Blackberries, email, IM, iPhones, netbooks, Twitter, and good ole pagers. In the middle of THIS mess, after it’s been going down for a month, and it’s still up in the air. “Can only leave a message.”

Does that seem credible or believable to you? It doesn’t to me- I simply don’t believe that story. But maybe that’s just me.

Anyway. Story continues that he dutifully leaves the message. Day goes by, doesn’t hear from Jay, can’t pass along the message. Whaddya gonna do, you know how these kids are, so impetuous n’ stuff. ((shrug))

Bottom line, Cutler never calls Bowlen back.

At 6:50 MST that day, Bowlen issues a press release that says:

“Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by head coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful,” Bowlen said in a statement. “A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by head coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful.

Quite clearly, BOWLEN thought Cutler was unreachable, and that’s all that matters here.

He’s Cutler’s boss, and you can’t ignore the boss without consequence.

"Quite clearly, BOWLEN thought Cutler was unreachable, and that’s all that matters here."

That was quite a long winded post for you to make an ass out of yourself. Bowlen also thinks he is in control of a team that is better now then it was last season, they’ll need years to go 8-8 again at this rate and it sucks.

You think so?

Hmmmm. Well, I think one thing is very clear- I made an ass out of YOU.

It’s clear that you think very, very highly of yourself and your opinions.

It’s also quite clear to the rest of us what a complete and utter tool you are. You resort to insults when it’s obvious you’ve lost the argument, which is indicative of a lazy and arrogant mind.

It’s a waste of time to have any sort of conversation with you, an insufferably arrogant juvenile boor that foolishly wishes to “educate” his betters.

It's hilarious...

that you go on and on when your weak argument fell apart so long ago. You talk about lazy and arrogant, listen to yourself. I don’t think very highly of myself, the impression your “logic” gives just makes me think very little of you. That could also explain any insults, which I didn’t feel were blatant. Insults are meant to show disrespect and I have no respect for you because you haven’t done anything to earn it, you’ve done quite the opposite in fact. The biggest waste of time is that your post is basically a ripoff of a post below that I wrote yesterday about sheep like yourself. The only reason I didn’t call myself your better is because I am not trying to pick a fight, just trying to stop stupidity from spreading. Unfortunately I see you all over MHR spewing mindless garbage founded by your 3rd rate education and your damaged brain. It hurts to watch.

I just wish someone could put some kind of factual bases behind their arguments.

All I have heard so far is, “If Bowlen says it it’s absolute truth.” I am not going to explain how childish and pathetic that thought process is, read your statements out loud and think a minute. Do you know what the failures of public schools and organized religion have in common? They breed sheep, silly sheep that can’t think for themselves.

So because I am the resident caveman here

Do you like McDaniels and support the Broncos?

or do you like Jay Cutler and think the Broncos suck without him?

Check one or the other

This is where we have all gone wrong...

I don’t like that divide, it really isn’t fair.

I don not like Josh McDaniels, he is a mistake made by an owner I do not think gets it as well as everyone would like to believe. That said I support the Broncos and that will never change.

I like Jay Cutler and I know the Broncos are a far worse team without him, I’ll follow Cutler’s career and always wonder what could have been as will most of you one day I suspect.

it's really simple, guys

if you want jay cutler to be your qb, do not trade him. if you do not want jay cutler to be your qb, trade him. the broncos hold all the cards. every last one of them. the rest of this is he-said/he-said posturing, ego, pride, and everything else that has nothing to do with winning football games for your organization, on the field. if you let any of this affect a football decision, then you are to blame. the owner has made his own bed, and he has the right to sleep in it. noone else does, including mcd, mr. invisible, and cutler.

his decision is now made, and we have to live with that decision, right or wrong. ultimately, if this doesn’t work out, the owner has another decision to make, or not. he has made it clear he is in charge, and everyone reports directly to him. it appears pat believes we are better off with another player at qb. we are about to find out. but when the dust settles, the only man that can take the credit or blame for this decision, and the new hirings, is the owner of the franchise. he can get rid of both of them if he chose, or none of them. get it?

Inconsistent LHH

LHH – Respectfully, there is simply no need to call others names or accuse others of making asses of themselves because they disagree with you.
It is often said that thinking is the process of justifying opinions that have already been formed through other means. Frankly, I do not see a lot of objectivity in your review of the Cutler situation. You have differing standards for what constitutes reasonableness depending on whether the item in question supports your position or not. (“Prove without a shadow of a doubt the Cutler was unreachable” – Please! And phone records aren’t enough?)
Just a couple of final points: Based on what we received in trade, Bowlen obviously did not “key” the car in front of the dealer to our detriment. And owning a team is most certainly NOT like owning the streets. And I think most reasonable people agree that Cutler made it clear he did not want to remain a Bronco – your “bluff” reasoning is only a scenario to make Cutler look the way you want him to.

No people make asses of themselves when...

they try to argue their point by crying, “Bowlen said so!” Let it be known, I don’t care if you agree with me. I care when you call me out without having a single fact to back you up and worse when you do it with a false sense of superiority. My position supports itself, I never said Cutler was always telling the truth or Bowlen and McDaniels were always lying, I stated the fact that only one side has been caught in a set of lies. Credibility therefore is leaning towards Cutler, could assumptions based on that credibility be wrong? Absolutely, I could be as wrong as anyone else, but I have always made it clear that my assumptions were backed by a fact and when everyone else tried to throw anti-Jay facts at me they were nothing more than complete assumptions based on nothing more than blind faith. That s why wrong or right my argument is the only one that has been just. Phone records you have never seen are not enough, I have some phone records over here that prove Pat Bowlen likes phone sex. Does me saying that make it true? It holds as much weight as what you know about those phone records. I think the trade was pretty weak, although I know enough to know we shouldn’t be trading the franchise QB, losing a fifth was about as insulting as the Redskins should have felt when we took their second with Champ with Portis. Bowlen seems to have a problem prematurely pulling the trigger because we didn’t have to rush things, offers would have gotten better, I mean did no one learn from the Patriots mistake with Cassel? The bluff scenario is just the only thing that makes sense and it doesn’t make Cutler look good it makes him look weak. Goodnight.
