Alright guys! It's crunch time!
You’ve received a load of picks for Cutler. Have fun rebuilding your defense! You’ve done a pretty good job with this trade, and I hope your new coach gets the job done. With a better defense, you might just improve on your record. That’s all you can count on, because Kyle Orton is no Jay Cutler, not by a long shot.
There is one thing for sure, by this time next year he’s either going to be paraded around the city on a golden throne, or tied to a block of wood and burned at the stake.
Good luck.

By the way
By previous closing comment extends to your Head Coach as well.

I'd bet on the coach being burned at the stake.
I don’t think Denver is prepared for the 3-13 season that is about to happen. At least they’ll get a high pick next year!
seriously?
i don’t understand how people can’t see that the broncos are otherwise a good team. sure they may struggle next season without Cutler — but 3-13? With that line? With the depth at RB? With a presumably improved defense? (that can’t be worse) The melodrama is laughable. I’m no Pollyanna, but I at least expect them to be competitive next year.
I ain't happy about the deal
But, I think that was probably the best they were going to get given the circumstances, I will say, I am a hell of a lot happier about this deal than any deal where we would of got Matt Cassel and given up picks.

Cassel vs. Orton
That’s pretty much a toss up for me…
Looks like we may still need to pick a QB either this year or next…

Same here, but at least now we get to focus on the draft. Now we can take a LB and a DL in the 1st round...you gotta look at the bright side.
What I want the Broncos to do before the start of next season:
1) Improve the defense drastically.
2) Improve terms with Jay Cutler.
3) Talk Jay into firing Bus Cook as his agent.
4) Sign Torry Holt to a 1 year deal.
Let's go BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the great thing about it
we can root for jay cutler to suck next season, because the worse the bears are, the better our pick!

I think it is the best we could get
Everyone would have loved 2 1st and 2 2nd and a 4th or some crazy trade like that but is that a realistic expectation. I would have loved to get a few more picks but I think we were setting our expectations to high. Lets move forward get some good players with our draft picks and build this team.

Let's see here..
We have 4 1st-rounders over the next 2 years, an extra 3rd rounder, and a backup QB with starting experience.
And all we had to give up was a guy who didn’t want to be here anyway and a 5th rounder?
Grand slam.
Time to rebuild...
Great points, now we have to make those picks stick. Which is something we haven’t done in the past with Shanny drafting. Hope JMac and crew know what they are doing. I will always be a Bronco fan, it’s just a lot more fun when they are good. GO BRONCOS!
The deals was great.
But I didn’t want Sh.tlip which is my nickname for Orton. Sorry, but when he has his helmet on it looks like he has a nice turd just riding shotgun on his upper lip.
Anyways. I’m still concerned with our QB situation. I mean, Orton (SL), Simms, and Hackney… OK… Did we just become the Bears? Are we going to go through 10 QBs in the next 3-4 years too?

The SPLEEN
will start ahead of Orton FYI

So if the SPLEEN starts, does that make us the Mystery Men

hasnt our team been a mystery since McDaniels took over anyway?

Not bad...in my opinion
Ok…I was a supporter of Cutler and I wish him well; however, now we have to move on. Orton…I don’t think he’s has bad as everyone here is saying. I’m from Michigan, so I see the Lion’s and Bear’s games every week. I honestly see an upside to this for Orton. He’s has great weapons here in Denver. He did quite well in Chicago with not much at his disposal. IF…IF…McD can utilize his talents I think Orton can do well for the Broncos. Sure he’s no Cutler, but I think he can be a good QB in our system. I was hearing on Sirius that they think they should trade down with both our 1 round picks to grab a QB; however, I disagree in that we’d be wasting what we got for Cutler. Again just my humble opinion…
I dont think he will like it in Chicago
Cutler likes to throw the football around and the bears are a run first team with matt forte

here is a quote from cutler's dad
“This is the happiest day of my life,” Cutler’s father Jack said after hearing from his son about the deal.
The Cutlers were life long Bears fans
This is pretty sad if this is the best day of his life lol. This just proves the cutlers were never happy in Denver

i bet 3 years from now Cutler comes crying back to denver
he’ll be sick of no oline or weapons on the bears and will finally realize denver was the best place for him. but it will be too late…
24-24 doesn't win championships
I don't like Orton
But can be convinced he’s mediocre. :) I really don’t know anything about him. Does he have a strong arm? Is he accurate? Does he have that elusive ability to escape would be sackers, y’know that sixth sense that he better move because he’s been in the pocket too long?
All I remember of him is a bad beard and the fact that nobody seems to want him, the Bears were just making due until something better came along.
What is the first round pick this year? 10?

As the bears are my second team, and my inlaws' favorite team,
I have seen Orton a time or two. In answer to your questions: Arm? Nnnno… not really. Accurate? Well, not really. Scrambling ability? Not observed.
I’ll admit, the bears are a distant second to my Broncos.

I like the picks the Broncos got ...
but think Chicago made out. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Broncos are looking for a QB for a while. Don’t think the Spleen (great knickname), Orton, or Sanchez are the answer. I can see a 3-13 season on the way for sure now. Maybe a #1 overall pick.
I also think the Bears head coaching position just got a whole lot more attractive to Shanahan…
Don't worry
Our starting QB will be Hackney. ;)

At face value, I think it was fair for both sides...
Just scared to death that Cutler goes on to a HoF worthy career while the Broncos are mired in mediocrity for 10 more years, if those draft picks don’t pan out.
Here’s hoping that both parties enjoy success and SB appearances… wouldn’t it be hilarious if they met in a future SB?
How many years has Orton been playing?
What I want the Broncos to do before the start of next season:
1) Improve the defense drastically.
2) Improve terms with Jay Cutler.
3) Talk Jay into firing Bus Cook as his agent.
4) Sign Torry Holt to a 1 year deal.

i still cant believe you traded cutler . I had is back on arrow head pride yes im excited he is gone
but he was your best option in my opinion teams would kill for a starter like him. Mcdaniels should be burned at the stake.
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
Maybe I'm being naive, but I can't see 3-13 or even 4-12 in 2009
I just feel like the offense was a whole lot more than just Jay. The line is top 2-3 in the league, the receiving corps is excellent, and I think the coach will be able to keep the offense running, even with Orton or Simms.
Also, I think the D is already better than last year and we haven’t used any of our 11 draft picks yet. Call me crazy, but I still think they win at least 6-7 games, even with their scheedule.
Also, if Simms does start, does that devalue Clady (since Simms is a lefty)? Just a thought.
I have been wondering the same thing about Clady
Is it possible for him to go to the right side? Or does that make no difference whatsoever?
Yah
I made comment to this effect above. I could see them struggling in some ways but they have too much talent everywhere else to be as bad as the real gloom and doom posters here are predicting. Not with their OL, their RB depth, some of the new personnel on defense (and presumably some good players from the draft). Oh, and if the coach is any good. In short, who knows, but I think it’s ludicrous to be predicting the end of the world. Cutler won some games with his arm alone, and the D was bad, but let’s not forget Cutler also lost some games on his arm, too.
I am happy.
The drama ends today. There may be a few follow-up surprises, like maybe one or two guys that can’t get over loyalty issues with Cutler, guys from his draft class or later. However, the main question has been put to bed. Let’s hope McDaniels can work his magic on ANY career backup QB.
I still get to root (cautiously) for Jay on my second favorite team. I wasn’t inside any of the discussions that went on, so I don’t know whose “fault” all this was. Maybe its just the Universe’s way of setting things right, putting Jay where he wants to be, and giving Denver the fresh start Bowlen spoke about when he fired Shanahan. There is balance in the force now. Denver’s place is not, and has never been, “in the news.” Remember how we all used to be shocked if the media mentioned anything about the Broncos? This will teach us to be careful what we wish for. I don’t LIKE our team being in this limelight. I’d rather the hall of fame overlook our greatest legends every year than to have the media hype our quarterback the way they hyped Cutler. I enjoy being the under-the-radar underdog. It is where the Broncos belong. Victory from behind, beneath, and below. Subtlety in style, precision in execution, and class on the field. I wish I could go meditate at the Horvil Tiki. btw, is he back online yet?

Better here than on the peace, love, and understanding thread
Nobody knows how this deal will work out. But I don’t see how anyone in their right mind can feel good about it. Seriously.
Let’s just talk about facts. Fact, Jay Cutler is currently the best QB from his draft class, a class that included Vince Young and Matt Leinhart. I’ll go further and say that Jay Cutler is one of the few, young, franchise quarterbacks in the NFL right now. Period. Sometimes even top draft choices, at QB, don’t turn out to be franchise QBs. Some teams go decades without a franchise QB. The Broncos have only had one, and Cutler was becoming the second in franchise history. Now what do we have left at the most important position, by a mile, in football? Kyle fricken Orton and Chris Simms. Sorry if I’m not doing cartwheels here.
I don’t care who Josh McDaniels thinks he is. Other NE coordinators have been hyped, moved on, and failed. Other coordinators with more on their resume than McDaniels. I don’t care if they land a stud with the 18th pick in the draft. Unless he is a franchise QB (and I’m not even sure if there is one in this year’s draft), the Broncos just lost, big time. And my guess is that next year’s Bear pick isn’t going to be very high. Bear fans are feeling like Broncos fans felt in the spring of 1983 right now. And now I know how Colt fans felt.
Sorry if I forgot to sing cumbaya. ;)

Yada yada yada
Yes, we’re all well aware of what Jay is capable of. Not only in his ability on the field, but his ability off of it. Namely, he’s got a knack for jerking off upper management and turning his back on his teammates. All the talent in the world (by the way, being better than Vince Young and Matt Leinart really isn’t that remarkable of an achievement) doesn’t justify that behavior. Nobody is above their own franchise.
As was said earlier in the comments, we made off with a handful of great picks in exchange for (pardon my hyperbole) a traitor. We have our first franchise QB in over a decade, you say? That’s nice…well, that guy doesn’t wanna be here. Sorry, but Jay Cutler really doesn’t care what you think.
The truth is that no Bronco fan in their right mind should be opposed to this. Sure, ideally we could have kept Cutler and he could have gone on to do great things for us for years to come. Welcome to reality, where that guy wants nothing to do with the team and would have just continued to be a distraction whose heart wasn’t in it. You want to keep that? Seriously?
Cutler’s not a franchise QB. He may be one day, but right now, he isn’t. Maybe you and I have different criteria for a franchise quarterback, but a couple of mine are to behave older than 12 years old and demonstrating some semblance of leadership. Cutler has neither of those things going for him, and unless he learns to change that, he’ll go the way of Ryan Leaf.
Bungled Pay Rise
I don’t get to post on here very often, so many better informed commentators who say it much more eloquently.
However, I do believe Jay when he said he didn’t intend to be traded – this was supposed to be about a Pro Bowl QB getting what he thought was a well deserved pay rise for putting up some stellar numbers. But when you hire Bus Cook and negotiate through bullying and threats and stone-walling the guy who signs your cheques, then the law of unintended consequences takes over. Either way, Cutler, Cook and the Broncos management have just taken part in the most bungled pay negotiations ever.
Moving forward, we’re off the frontpages and this has to be good for team morale. We have a stack of draft picks and I’m on my knees hoping that McX can do the business in the draft.
Cutler was always going to be traded out of conference, and my preference would have been for the graveyard of talent that is Detroit. I think he’ll do ok in Chicago – average O-line, decent D, tough division with Green Bay and the Vikes, and also up against the AFC North this season.
Bears next due in Denver in 2011 – GO BRONCOS!!
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It is about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out to beat the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."
Danny Blanchflower
As an NFL deal this is a tremendous win for the Broncos. Getting 2 1st round picks is just unheard of. Throw in a 3rd and a quality QB and it’s a steal.
Yes Jay’s important, but he wanted to leave, so let’s move on from that.
Let’s see how Orton turns out under Wonderkind’s guidance. From everything I’ve heard he’s highly respected in the locker room and is a guy everyone rallies behind, and he’ll be willing to learn and never say die. I’ll take that.
