I have tracked over 50 Mocks for the past month and for the longest time, first round conventional wisdom had our Broncos picking Tyson Jackson (58%), yet I am going to take a flyer here and go against the grain.
Here we go from the Top of the Nation!
1-12: B.J. Raji, NT, Boston College
1-18: Rey Maualaga, ILB, USC
Of course, this is MY dream scenario with Raji falling to us at #12 and Sanchez already off my big board at #8 to Washington (trade with Jacksonville). As far as Maualaga, I am amazed that with his talent available on film for all to see, that he is waaaaay undervalued by most mockers. Not me. With him and Raji and Dawkins, the gut of our DEFENSE just got NASTY! You think opponents will want to tread in the middle of the field in the coming years as they have in the recent past?
I think not...
2-48: Jarron Gilbert, DE/DT, San Jose State
An absolute physical beast. He will be our answer to Tyson Jackson being off the board and I predict he will be a steal for us in the second round.
"Has the long frame and enormous reach of a 3-4 DE."
3-79: Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama
3-84: Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly
Johnson is Scouts, Inc.'s 2nd ranked Safety and we nab him in the 3rd round.
Ka-ching!
Barden in my opinion will eventually serve as the mirror image of Marshal thus moving Royal to the slot. At that point, who cares who the QB is?
Someone is going to be open!
4-114: Antione Caldwell, C, Alabama
4th ranked Center with above average skills in all key areas. This lets us move Lichtensteiger to OG-C. Depth and versatility are the points here.
5-149: Stephen McGee, QB, Texas A&M
The future? Time will tell if McDaniels can work his magic. McGee has all the tools at a fraction of the cost.
6-185: Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
More bulk and depth for the emerging D-Line. With Raji and Taylor, we will always have a fresh set of tree trunk legs anchoring the middle.
Turn 'em loose guys!
7-225: Pannel Egboh, DE, Stanford
7-235: Devin Moore, RB, Wyoming
Since the Greatest Ever retired, I have to always take a flyer on a smart Stanford STUDENT-Athlete...
Moore provides us the possible ST star to keep Eddie Royal healthy for the offense.
(styg, this is my official entry into the Full Broncos Mock contest)
Well my esteemed colleagues here at MHR, let me have it...
