Around SBN: Penn State Recruiting Roundup Is Set For A Big Junior Day

Who's the one guy?

Well the draft is now less than a day away and I am really curious to ask you guys and gals, the best fans in all of sports, who do you want? Just one guy - I don't want the realistic answer, I want to know what the heart wants. Who out there is going to make you jump off the couch excited?

If you feel like explaining why feel free, if you just want to drop the name, that's cool too.

Thanks everyone and hope we are all happy come tomorrow night!

Go Broncos!

We have no larger need, and he’s a top 5 talent in the draft. If we trade up, it should be for him, not Sanchez.

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

Sean Smith and Connor Barwin

and Donald Brown or Shon Green.

Maybe Barwin over Smith

…but I like that both are athletic and have motors. As for Brown or Green, I’m thinking value in the 3rd round maybe.

I would love to ahve Barwin

and I definitely think he is worth the #18. Knowshon and Barwin in the first round? That would be a candy draft, but candy can give you cavities if you aren’t careful….

im just worried about raji

i cant seem to think that hes going to be one of those guys like haynesworth that is only about the money and doesnt try unless hes about to get paid. i really dont have a reason why i feel this way, just a hunch.

i really want rey mauluaga. hes been the guy i wanted from the begining when shanahan was still here and when we only had #12 though tomorrow. im hoping we can get him at 18 now and would do exactly what you described, jump up off the couch and celebrate.

likewise if he goes to the chargers i will unleash a string of profanities that even my friends will cringe

by purplesocks on Apr 24, 2009 5:02 PM MDT reply actions

I could only imagine the colorful and hurtful words...

that could be heard coming from Steve’s living room if the Chargers pick Moreno.

I agree it would be hard to see Rey go to SD.

We need some front 7 work first, maybe we got ahead of ourselves?

How can we get line help? Trade – maybe, ideas?

Moreno in '09!

by Steve O' on Apr 24, 2009 5:45 PM MDT up reply actions

I know how you would love to add a big name talent to the DL...

but let’s see what we have “in house” for our new D. I’m not ready to write off Powell, and we could get some help in rounds 2 – 7. I say go impact players in the first couple of rounds (Moreno/Maualuga), and trust your scouts later on (Terrance Taylor, Sammie Lee Hill, Powell, etc.).

I’m all for a trade back in the first to stockpile more 2nd or 3rd round picks.

that I hope to see a guy like Brown do exactly what he did in the clips versus seasoned NFL vets, BUT
HE HAS SOME FANTASTIC TECHNIQUES – and not just one or two – in the clips he shows beautiful clubs, spins, EVERYTHING!! WOW!!

Where is Brown projected to go?

I like Brown over Jackson…Orakpo is my top DE, Brown then Jackson…I even thing a guy like Peria Jerry could shed a few pounds and be a heck of a 5 technique. He is very mobile and quick…

Hey Ned...many are saying that could happen

Some cheeseball starting saying," he doesn’t rush the passer", now all of the sudden he is a slider. Wow that would be awesome

i dont get that because they since hes an olb he has to rush the passer

why? the olb is not specifically a rush position. especially in a 4-3

Sammie Stroughter
WR
OSU

Local kid from the Sacramento area. Strong character, been through some rough times. WR talent with return abilities/experience. Story about his last couple of years.
Could play backup slot receiver position and give Royal some relief in return duties.

I used to fight with my Hurricane friends about Santana Moss vs Reggie Wayne when they played together in Miami

I always thought that Wayne was way better and everyone said I was crazy. It’s selling routes and catching the ball. If you do that you will be good. I don’t care how fast you are.

In all seriosuness, dont be surprised...

Remember , that McD’s scheme is built/ based on Urban Meyer’s scheme. They have a long history, and I am sure that Urban will go to bat for Harvin, and Harvin would be dynamite in the same scheme here in Denver.
Just putting 2 and 2 together.
I can see Denver trading out of 18 with the Pats for their 1st and a 2nd and taking Harvin later.
Thats my gut…this assuming no one that they like at 18!

james laurinitus

at #18, or trading back to get him and a pick, if possible. just me, i know, but i just think he has it. he will steady and captain the inside run defense along with davis and larsen, and may come rather cheaply. not concerned about the 3-4 adjustment, if we intend to have a d-line. either way, we need another hammer inside, especially if nt/dt isn’t properly addressed, which appears likely, now. any combination of james/rey and raji/brace would be great, but james/brace appears very possible to me. that’s 2 guys, sorry, but we need, like, 3!

supposed to be a 4-3 type and not a good fit in the 3-4?

by bradley on Apr 25, 2009 6:11 AM MDT up reply actions

Good question

I think he can play anywhere really with one expection and he still may be able to do that. James lacks top end NFL LB speed so he may struggle in a Cover 2 where the MLB has deep middle resposibilities in coverage.

An inside LB in a 3-4 has an extra in the middle with him so his range doesn’t need to be as steller. I think J.L. will be fine no matter where he ends up. He is a football player.

Re: James lacking top end speed

I saw a tv thing on him that showed that, while his 40 speed may not be great for a LB, his initial reaction burst is stellar. How many times does a ML have to run down someone for any distance? If he can work in a 3-4, let’s get him (over any of the USC guys)

this isn’t a BRONCOS draft deal, it’s a “who do you like?” draft deal, that said, I like Sanchez.

I really can’t wait to see what that guy does behind center. I think he’ll take a few by surprise.
