MHR Predraft Open Thread

Wow.

We made it guys!  The Draft is going to start TODAY!!!  Not tomorrow, not next week, TODAY!!

Now I KNOW you don't have anything better to do than toss on your favorite jersey, park yourself in front of the cpu with ESPN and NFLN on in the background.  The whole staff has made this weekend a priority to try and bring you guys the best draft day atmosphere you can get as a Broncos fan.

TSG is picking up his press pass at RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL as we speak,

Ted Bartlett is warming up the fingers and, more importantly, the wit,

HoosierTeacher is preparing himself, and all of us, for the rigors of the up and down hours that face us,

NYC is hosting Guru in, well, NYC, and prepping for the long haul this weekend,

Zappa is kneedeep in HTML code to keep the threads running smooth, and

Broncobear delayed some important salmon-sampling to be present and offer up a Bear's eye view of the Broncos' picks.

For my part, I've thrown on the #78 jersey, to bring the best luck I can to that #12 slot this year for the Broncos, and am hoping like heck for Character, Attitude and Impact to the be the hallmarks of our 2009 draft.

There is a lot to keep track of today, so stay tuned in and help eachother out.   We'll be doing open threads all day and all weekend for every round, and I can't wait to see the kind of comment counts you guys manage to drum up.  We have contests to break down, and raffles to rock, we have 32 teams all vying for the best talent in the draft (draft pick chart), there will be trades up and trades down (draft pick point value chart), and most importantly there will be tons of talented, enthusiastic young players ready to take the next step on the way to greatness (Broncos Big Board.)

Which ones will be Denver Broncos at the end of the day?  Well, that is why we are all here, isn't it?  And this is the perfect place to say just where HERE is:  the best damn place anywhere to celebrate the Broncos this offseason, and it is because of YOU the terrific MHR community.  Everyone is here today because you guys have made it worthwhile, and as far as I'm concerned, you all have already made Draftivus a huge success.  It is Draftivus morning now, so let's just enjoy bringing this one home.

GO BRONCOS!!!!!

What a good day. First the Nuggets Game and then the Draft

My headband is on

I have donned the Broncos fuzzy slippers, stocked up on enough Red Bull to keep me running at peak position for over a month without sleeping, strategically taped a number 8 on my Jay Cutler Kyle Orton jersey, and I’m ready to GO!

Now, only 4 hours left…

I seem to have lost my future self.

The main thing I am looking for today is

how many offensive players are taken in the first eleven picks. I am quite confident there will be at least seven players, but hopefully eight, within the first eleven picks.
1. Stafford
2. Sanchez
3. A. Smith
4. J. Smith
5. Monroe
6. Oher
7. Crabtree
8. Hopfully Maclin or Heyward-Bey???

If 8 offensive players are taken within the first 11, that will leave us our choice of either Curry, Orakpo, Raji, or Jackson. Any one of those players will be fine with me. Today is a win-win scenario for us.

BOTTOM LINE: HOPEFULLY 2 WR’S WILL BE TAKEN WITHIN THE FIRST 11 PICKS!

by swg777 on Apr 25, 2009 10:16 AM MDT reply actions

my hope exactly!

You never know who might drop to us! Jackson would be fine but Curry, Orakpo or Raji …? Finer. Especially Curry or Orakpo …WOW I can’t wait to see!

Time for the beginning of redemption McD!

scott wrights final mock draft has the broncos taking

12- Raji DT
18- Ayers DE
48- Alphonso Smith CB
79- Travis Beckem TE
84- Kyle Moore DE

pretty good first three rounds heavily concentrating on the Dline which is what i want and instead of Bechem i would rather have taken McKillop. TE isnt one of our needs especially if we dont move Schef.

Heres something interesting for all you Sean Smith fans. Wright has him falling to number 87 to Miami in the 3rd round

Anyone else

stupidly get up thinking the draft was still 9am PST/12 EST? :-( Man, even though I knew it was starting later now I still forgot this morning, got all excited…. feh! I hate the later start time. Anyway I agree with swg, it’s really possible given there is much more defensive strength atop the draft than offense, and given who is picking where, that a lot of offense will go first and then the run on defense, which will really benefit Denver. Since itsounds like we won’t be trading up, might as well enjoy 12 + 18.

by underdog on Apr 25, 2009 10:26 AM MDT reply actions

Rumor reports -

Rams are getting multiple offers for trading down the second pick. The Lions have already announced they will take Stafford (QB) at pick one. Seattle is pursuing the pick. What do you all think the Rams will do?

I think the Rams should stay put and take an OLman.

It depends onnnwho it is

If they can still get a good Olineman after a trade down, I’d do it in a heartbeat. they need more picks

I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

Little, Wright, Atwater, Davis, and Sharpe...
Why are they not in the Hall...I just don't understand.

by Mike Clark on Apr 25, 2009 11:28 AM MDT reply actions

Totally agree

Moreno would be awesome! Dream scenario in my opinion would be Orakpo or Raji at 12 and then Moreno at 18. Go Broncos!!!!

Here's to a completely defensive draft besides Knowshon Moreno!

Mike Silver...

(Posted this on previous thread but since everyone’s here)

Raider fan?

I know I’m biased, but ranking Denver #29 is beyond laughable. It’s ludicrous. Was Jay Cutler the difference between 29 and being a top 10-15 team? I don’t think he was. He’s basically ignoring any good player they’ve added this off-season,plus ignoring all the good players they have on offense. And ranking the Raiders several slots ahead of them?

It’s bulletin board fodder in the Broncos locker room, I hope.

Btw, those Raiders, if they do pick DHB, I will laugh long and hard. He should be bottom of the 1st round, top of 2nd, talk about a reach. Make it happen, Al!

Marshall -

1) Latest report is that he continues to rehab well from the injury he received last offseason. (Still had some numbness in ’08).

2) Latest reasoning is that there won’t be a suspension, or Denver would have been notified so they could plan the draft accordingly. (At worst, Denver has been notified, and has made plans behind closed doors). Denver (and Marshall) look safe. I doubt a suspension is coming down the chute.

It'd be nice to know about Marshall

but I don’t think I’d want the team to use a decent draft pick that could potentially impact your team long term because one guy is gonna miss 4 games this year.

Woke up late today…

FYI, I read something in the Honolulu Advertiser that a fan from Hawaii won 1.) Trip to the draft to announce the Viking’s (his fav. team) 2nd round pick. 2.) A trip to London to participate in the on-field introductions for the Pats vs Bucs. 3.) Attend the coin toss in the Super Bowl. 4.) Call a play at the Pro Bowl. Awesome huh?

Hello from Anchorage, Alaska!

I just got back home at 0230 after 6 days on the road (Omaha is a nice and very clean town). I was lucky enough to be able to change my travel, otherwise I wouldn’t have got home till this evening.

I checked with FirstFan to see if we could watch the draft together, but he has two community support engagements today and he will be in the pulpit tomorrow, maybe tomorrow afternoon he will be able to see that late rounds.

BTW, if you are in Omaha, be sure to get an Omaha steak. Mine was yum-yum.

I agree, Larsen shouldn’t get any bigger. I am getting tired of his bone crushing hits knocking the pixels off my TV, once they fall to the floor they are very hard to find.

Just bought 20 Omaha rib eyes.

Gave some to friends. Have used a couple for a stir fry, one for breakfast, and am making dinner for some friends later in the week (making a stroganoff dish – authentic; not Hamburger Helper lol).
