List of Bronco's trades over draft weekend
Here is an account of the Broncos draft weekend trades. What we received and what we gave up according to NFL.com. Here is a link to all of the trades over the weekend <Draft trade tracker: All the moves>

Broncos trade up to take CB Alphonso Smith |
||
Seahawks receive: |
Broncos receive: |
|
|
Analysis: NFL Network analysts Charley Casserly, Mike Mayock and Michael Lombardi are in agreement on this trade: Smith is not worth next year's first round pick. They think the price is too high for a cornerback who is only 5-foot-9 with questionable speed. "It’s a little dangerous to trade away next year’s one," Lombardi said. "You’re taking a chance, especially on a corner, and a small corner at that. That bothers me." The Seahawks will receive the Broncos' natural pick in 2010 and not the one acquired from the Bears for Cutler. |
||
| Broncos trade up to take TE Richard Quinn | ||
Steelers receive: |
Broncos receive: |
|
|
Analysis: The Broncos, with five picks and two trades, were one of the most active teams on Day 1. They ended it with this trade to the Steelers in which they picked Quinn, a blocking tight end. It could mean Denver is looking to shop Tony Scheffler, who was critical of the Jay Cutler trade. |
||
| Broncos sneak up eight slots for McKinley | ||
Broncos receive: |
Ravens receive: |
|
|
Analysis: NFL.com's Bucky Brooks says that McKinley is a polished route-runner with good hands, and will give the Broncos another athletic receiver to add to their spread formations. NFL.com's Gil Brandt and Pat Kirwan agree that Peerman is a great value pick for the Ravens in the sixth round, and could provide a lift in the kicking game. For complete pick-by-pick analysis, check out NFL.com's Draft Tracker. |
||
| Broncos make move to take a quarterback | ||
Broncos receive: |
Lions receive: |
|
|
Analysis: NFL Network's Mike Mayock noted during Sunday's draft broadcast that Brandstater is a "down-the-road pick," given that the Broncos only have two quarterbacks currently on the roster and the team needed a young passer to develop. The Lions' pick, Follett, developed a reputation as being one of the Pac-10's hardest hitters. For complete pick-by-pick analysis, check out NFL.com's Draft Tracker. |

I dont understand the need for the first trade
Why would we risk a potential top 10 pick for a person we possibly could have gotten in the third round. I just don’t understand the logic in this. Maybe if we end up with the best record in the league then it would make it worth it. Then we would only be giving up a #30-32 pick. I just don’t see the logic in this. I liked the idea of having two #1’s next year and having 2 years to build the Broncos into a legitimate contender.
I think the big thing with that Griz
It’s been widely agreed that if Smith were just 2 inches taller, he’d be a first round choice, hands down. It’s also been argued that he is the best cornerback in the draft, but because his height held him down, he slipped. If he were 6 foot, he would have been a first round pick in this years or next years draft.

Hey Griz...
As a draft laymen I must respectfully disagree that Alphonso Smith would have slipped to the third round. From what I gathered, the Broncos rated the players they wanted regardless of what any other team thought about them. In the post draft pressor McDaniels addressed this very issue – Smith was on our board as a 1st round pick and that is where we valued him.
Take a peek at HT’s wonderful article on all the new guys. I have no doubt we will contend for the Division Title this year.

It also makes sense
if the pick is a Top 5 pick, just ask KC. The Chiefs were desperate to get out of that pick, but had no takers. You really think they want to pay Jackson #3 overall money? nope, but now they have to
Owning the Patriots since September 9, 1960
I think the other question....
is why the Broncos couldn’t have swapped 2’s and added a later pick or at least made the pick conditional (later of the 2 1’s or only if after 15)—I would imagine someone would have taken it, if not the Seahawks.
The thing I liked most about this
McDaniels and Xanders didn’t get desperate and start adding players we already have into these trades. I’ve noticed that tends to be what teams do when they really want to make a trade. The team on the receiving end usually gets players AND picks. It’s a good sign that McX didn’t budge on what they wanted.

Couldn't agree more...

Here is an easily imported roster as well...
Again… thanks to the post by Jezru we all have a nice roster list to work from… all I did was make it a little bit easier to copy and paste into a spreadsheet. The roster pasted below is built from Jezru’s list so let us hope it is accurate – I am sure it is!
I added the 2009 draft choices as well as the college free agents signed so far. When pasting into your favorite spreadsheet select paste special and choose unformatted text then use the comma separator and you will be good to go with some nice sortable columns!! (Updated 4/27 2:53 PM)

Blackshirt, can you help me with these comma seperators...
I’m not too literate in Excel. Thank you!

Here ya go...
1. Open Excel – duh. Any spreadsheet program should be similar. Personally, I use OpenOffice’s CALC program – it’s open source and FREE!
2. Copy the list above from NUMBER to the end of Stanley Bryant’s line – CFA-’09.
3. In Excel highlight cell A1.
4. Go to the EDIT menu and select paste special.
5. Select UNFORMATTED TEXT and click OK.
6. A screen should display that asks you how you would like to separate the data. Select the COMMA box (a “X” should appear) and click OK. The data should have pasted into nice, sortable columns.
7. Retired obviously.
8. Don’t hesitate to let me know if that works and if not… we’ll get it figured out for you one way or another!

when I hit Paste Special
I don’t get any boxes or anything, it just pastes all in the A1 box. I hate Office 07….

EXCEL
Copy and Paste his list to a text file using notepad.
Go to excel —> Data —> Import External Data —> Import Data
You then have to point it to the txt file choosing all file types and selecting the file you generated.
Choose Delimited and select NEXT
Unselect Tab and Select Comma as what seperates the data, NEXT
Choose Finish
Select New Worksheet or existing Worksheet
That should do it.
Don't jump off the cliff but if the guys next to you are loud and annoying try to push them off.
Thank you so much Kfu!
I appreciate that! it worked like a charm!

Thanks Blackshirt!
I was wondering what the specifics of those later trades were, but was too busy to look it up for myself…
Is there anywhere on here I can import an Excel file to the site?
I did a few things to your chart there Blackshirt, and I wanted to put it up.
