WR at #12?
First, I think that not signing Olshansky was a biiiig mistake, we need big DE's for the 3-4. The more I've thought about what we could do at #12 the more I think that WR is a real possibility. As we know Marshall just had hip surgery. I consider that a fairly serious operation, and one that will take a long time to heel. He is our big dog at WR and if he isnt 100% come the start of the season (he's already out until July) were in big trouble. I really like Heyward from Maryland. I think that he is gonna be phenomenal and receivers with his speed simply do not come out every year. I also like Crabtree a lot. Drafting either one of these guys would allow us to put Royal in the slot (like Welker) and give Marshall some help on the other side (and provide some insurance). We can go D at #18 (where a few big DE's will still be available). So what do you think?

NO NO NO
A WR at 12 or 18 is a bad idea, there are better free agents available. So I think that would be a huge mistake.

that's a good point too.
Just sign Holt if you want a good wr. He has 3 good years left in him.

Since we have Olshansky's former DL coach
I can only assume that there is something off about him that we don’t know about; character or work ethic maybe. As far as drafting a wr in the first round I don’t see it happening. McDaniels has said that we will be drafting the best player available at a position of need and DL is clearly our biggest need. After that probably a stud LB.

I would hate taking a WR in the first
almost as much as taking a QB
shore up that defense! get a QB next year, and a WR in a later round.

There will be a collective MHR gasp if we draft a WR at #12...
I want defense, defense and more defense (and some cowbell…def more cowbell).

Heyward-Bey.
He’s a track star masquerading as a WR.

WR @ 12, NO WAY... But I'll show you the right way
Ready?
The Answer is:
1. “Big Game” Torry Holt via FA
2. Tyson Jackson w/1st @ 12
3. Clay matthews w/1st @ 18
4. Connor Barwin w/2nd @ 48
5. Sammie Lee Hill w/3rd @ 78
6. Ramses Barden w/3rd @ 84

WR @ 12?
the justification for a high pick receiver is little Marshall may be out a bit sure but Royal Stokely and Gaffney those are a good set plus your back field and your TE’s I dont see the need for a “top flight” receiver when you can grab someone like Barden in round 3 or 4

to add
the only two players of value I see in the draft at the W position are Hakeem Nicks (projected late first) and Ramses Barden (projected late 3 early 4)

Sorry,
WR is one of the last positions I would want to draft this year.

Only if Crabtree falls...
You would have to consider him, but defense is still a much bigger need. I would love for Crabtree to fall that far because we could trade out of our #12 pick and get some additional ammo. If we take a WR then it needs to be later in the draft (aka Barden or Robiskie). Our focus needs to be on best player availible at any of our need areas.

If Crabtree is still available,
take him! OR, there would probably be a team that would want to trade up for the pick. a perfect example would be the chicago bears! they need to WR bad, or else jay will probably whine about it. maybe for a couple 2nd rounders? its not like the bears draft well anyway lol

There's generally a steep learning curve for WR's
I would understand if you were saying that we should get rid of Marshall and draft a WR to replace him, but it would be completely illogical to spend an early draft pick simply to help while Marshall returns from injury (or more likely: suspension).

Sorry if that's confusing
I didn’t mean to say that I thought we should get rid of Marshall. Despite his off field troubles, I really like Marshall.
What I was trying to say is that I would understand if someone felt that we might be better off getting rid of him. If we weren’t planning to keep Marshall, THEN taking a WR at #12 might be worth considering.
it would be absurd to waste the #12 pick if we’re just looking for someone to keep his place warm while he’s returning from injury or suspension. Said pick would be demoted back to #3 or #4 receiver after Marshall came back, and the steep learning curve for WR’s would mean that anyone we picked at 12 probably wouldn’t have been sucessfull anyways.

WR is a good idea, just not first round
With Marshall’s suspensions and Stokely’s concussions, I could definitely see a day 1 WR in the mix, but other positions need too much help to pick a WR in the first round.
Personally I’m a bit frustrated that haven’t at least talked to Torry Holt. Maybe he’s asking for too big of a contract?
