DB - Here's a short clip (2m40s) of Josh McDaniels from the Broncos' first mini-camp, featuring some work with Kyle Orton and the WRs. Of course, The Slot Machine is the only guy he doesn't need to correct.

DP - The Broncos waived RB Selvin Young yesterday due to a neck injury which is not expected to heal before September. Well, the departure of Young and Andrew Pinnock trims the RB corps...now how crazy was it to draft Knowshon Moreno?

DB - As expected, Denver hired Matt Russell to be their director of college scouting. Russell, a former CU Buffs linebacker, has been a scout for the Patriots and Eagles.

BND - Russell is credited with convincing the staff in New England to draft Matt Cassell.

DP - Denver's second mini-camp begins today, which will be Josh McDaniels' first on-field look at his newest players.

DP - Klis has some quotes from Russell and Darcel McBath, notes on Matt Prater and Chris Baker.

CSUF - QB Tom Brandstater is excited to be a Denver Bronco.

ND - So is UFA-signing LB Lee Robinson from Alcorn State.

ECU - Here's a profile of another Broncos UFA signing, OT Stanley Bryant.

ESPN - John Clayton thinks teams will be watching Alphonso Smith to see whether it's worthwhile to trade future first-rounders. Right, because it's never been done before...sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't - just like any draft decision!!!

NFP - Mike Lombardi thinks the Broncos should be calling other teams regarding their extra defensive-tackles. Now before everyone flips out, keep in mind that they may already be doing so...

Star-divide

NFL - The Chefs signed C Eric Ghiaciuc, who started all 16 games last year for the Bungles.

KCS - So far, Chefs owner Clark Hunt is pleased with the job Scott Pioli is doing.

Y! - Sean Jensen profiles Nnamdi Asomugha and his excellent work with Oakland youths, as Clark Judge had done last week.

SFG - David White examines the contract ramifications for Oakland with their first-rounder Darrius Heyward-Bey.

SDUT - Roidhead Headhunter Shawne Merriman is ready to go.

SDUT - Vincent Jackson sought to have some blood-test evidence thrown out in his drunk-driving case.

Y! - Former Dolts LB Marques Harris signed a one-year deal with the 49ers.

NFL - Here are the offseason schedules for all 32 NFL teams.

Y! - Former longtime NFL writer Bob Oates passed away at the age of 93.

NFL - After removing the franchise tag from Leroy Hill, the Seahawks agreed to a new deal with their linebacker, which guarantees him $15.5 million.

NFL - The Patriots have acquired TE Alex Smith from the Buccaneers for an undisclosed 2010 draft choice.

NFL - Cincy PK Shayne Graham signed his one-year franchise tender.

SI - A few of the SI writers discuss where Edgerrin James might end up next.

NFP - Matt Bowen details mini-camps from the player's perspective.

NFP - Andrew Brandt chimes in on the annual "Will Brett play this year" talk.

NFL - Thomas George thinks Donovan McNabb finally has some real weapons around him. Well, the days of Stinkston and Trash are certainly distant memories.

CBS - Clark Judge thinks the Rams' draft was a vote of confidence for QB Marc Bulger.

FOX - Alex Marvez shares what it takes to become an NFL draft bust.

NFP - Matt Bowen thinks rookies are overpaid.

NFP - Wes Bunting examines the third-round choices that stood out to him.

NFP - Robert Boland shares some thoughts about the draft.

NFL - Bucky Brooks grades out the NFC West teams' drafts.

CBS - Pete Prisco goes back and grades the 2006 Draft, with high marks to the Broncos (of course).

What a McJerk!

OMG, the arrogance! Did you see Coach McHorribleWreckerofBroncos correcting receivers when they did something wrong! And giving them pointers! Arrogant McHoodieJerk is the WORST! We’re going to go 2-14!!!!! And then the way that at the end he told them good work — like he’s some kind of McGenius BELLICHEAT boss who gets to tell them what to do!!!! This 32-year old arrogant MCJERK will set back the Broncos 300 years!!!

Ah, good times. Not too bad for my first try, although I think I’ve got some work to do if I want to compete with the heavy hitters at DPO. Thanks as always, NYC.

He

wasn’t even listening to his receivers and taking in what they had to say about how to do it. He was just telling them to do it right.

And everyone knows they need help on the D-Line and Front Seven

What is McBadCoachPimpleKid even running offensive drills for anyway! The Broncos had the #2 offense! We all need help on the D-Line. Coach McDestroyerOfBroncos isn’t even paying attention to the biggest need! Seattle’s going to have the #3 pick next year, thanks to Coach I’mMcArrogantandIgnorningtheD!!!!!

The Broncos had the number 2 offense between the 20s, but in the red zone they were A number two offense.

Besides, I’m pretty sure that weekend minicamp was longer than the two minutes shown on the video.

Also, I don’t think that refusing to settle for inferior players who happened to fit a percieved need qualifies as ignoring the D. Shanny tried that in ‘07 and where did that get him? There weren’t any studs available, only projects who were overrated because of a down year for defensive linemen.

hard to argue that

Definately a guaranteed NT right there.

Right? Right?

Okay maybe Terrance Taylor? Terrance Knightington (or whatever the Temple guy is)?

Oh, man I get chills when I think about the star quality at NT in the draft this year. How could we pass on all these guys with more questions that Courtney Love and take the only 3-4 D-Lineman left available who doesn’t have a laundry list of questions?

Damn that idiot “the coach”, not wanting to waste a pick on someone who doesn’t fit his mold of player. DAMN HIM!!!!!

The coach is no idiot!!!!!

So this is the same idiot coach who’s 2 first round picks are tipped as immediate starters and potential pro-bowlers in the Carucci report!!!!

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/09000d5d81016584/The-Carucci-report

We got great value!

As for your selections look to the analysis below ‘Star quality? You’re kidding me right…???

Terrance knighton DT
height: 6’3
weight: 321Ib
College: Temple

Overview

Knighton’s large body and fair athleticism is coveted by NFL scouts. The 2008 first-team All-MAC pick contributed heavily as a true freshman (after a post-graduate year at Milford Academy) before earning the starting nod in each of the next three seasons. He averaged 56 tackles, 7.5 for loss and four pass breakups from 2006-2008, while recovering six fumbles and blocking four kicks over the past two years. Teams looking for a one-gap 4-3 nose tackle will be most interested in Knighton.

Analysis

Positives: Good height, length and girth for his position. … Better-than-expected straight-line speed and change-of-direction ability, able to sniff out and disrupt screen plays. … Will chase plays downfield. … Strong upfield rush, either up the shoulder of his defender or splitting double teams. … Uses his long arms to wrap up in the open field or track down ballcarriers coming through the hole. … Flashes violent hands, especially when his man retreats off the snap in passing situations. … Active knocking down passes and blocking field goals because of his push, arm length and large hands. … Keeps cut blocks off his knees. … Athletic enough to quickly jump on loose balls and get down quickly in short-yardage situations.

Negatives: Might be a nose tackle and three-technique “tweener.” … Not particularly explosive off the snap. … Doesn’t play as strong as his size would indicate and he will stand after the snap, giving up leverage. … Needs to use his hands more consistently at the line to free himself to make plays or to bull rush his man into the pocket. … Doesn’t have many pass rush moves. … Must be more consistent pressing after the initial pop.

Drafted by: Jaguars 3rd rd
Pick Analysis: The Jaguars look to fill their biggest defensive need with the selection of Knighton. The former Owl gives them a hulking interior player capable of controlling the line of scrimmage against single or double teams inside.

N.B. Not a true nose tackle and more suited to a 4-3 with gap responsibility and little to no sacks!!!! this guy is not the answer!!!

Terrance Taylor DT
height: 6’0
weight: 306Ib
College: Michigan

Overview

A three-year starter at nose guard, Taylor’s squat, thick frame resembles a fire hydrant, but he attacks blockers like a runaway fire truck.

Taylor delivered one of the best performances in the weight room at the 2009 NFL Combine, recording 37 repetitions bench-pressing 225 pounds. Strength has always been his biggest asset.

He set Michigan prep records with a 500-pound bench press, 680-pound squat and a 670-pound dead lift

Analysis

Positives: Prime NFL nose tackle candidate. … Plays with good leverage, keeping his pad level low and square and getting his hands high and inside. … Does not move much against double teams, holding his ground against the run. … When fresh, he gets off the ball and pushes the center into the backfield to blow up inside runs. … On occasion he can quickly knife through the A-gap to get pressure on the quarterback. … Will chase downfield at times. … Plays with a mean streak. … Voted team captain in 2008.

Negatives: Short and not in great shape. … Does not shed blocks when straight-up on his man, but makes plays when lined up on the shoulder of the center or guard. … Better conditioning could help him get off the ball and collapse the pocket consistently. … Doesn’t get his hands up often enough to break up passes. … Exposed a bit at the East-West Shrine Game for being a bit of a one-trick pony. … Makes piles in short-yardage situations but does not stay on his feet consistently enough to stop the runner.

Drafted by: Colts 4th rd
Pick Analysis: Taylor has been a dominating player in the Big Ten. His biggest problem is that he lacks size. He has excellent strength and is a competitive player who plays really hard. He will give the Colts more depth up the middle in their defense.

N.B. Short and in bad shape, too small 306Ib! not big enough for a nose tackle! In fact not good enough to beat out any of the tackles we already have!!! Both your selections are wide of the mark!!!

This is what the ‘idiot coach’ as you referred to him picked up as an undrafted free agent.

Chris Baker DT
height: 6’2
weight: 326Ib
College: Hampton

Overview

Baker struggled with off-field incidents at Penn State. He was suspended from the team at the end of the 2007 season and finally dismissed from the Nittany Lions in July 2008 after pleading guilty to two counts of misdemeanor assault and criminal trespass following two fights in 2007. He received two years of probation. Baker showed versatility playing at defensive end in a 3-4 after starting the year at nose tackle for Hampton. He earned first-team All-MEAC honors with 62 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Baker and his family decided it was time to leave the Pirates after his redshirt junior season, but character concerns follow him into the NFL.

Analysis

Positives: Adequate build in the upper and lower body. … Good quickness off the snap. … Gets his hands into his man’s jersey quickly, attacks a shoulder and constantly works to the quarterback. … Can also extend his arms inside the numbers to get leverage and push into the backfield. … Also able to stand up his man on run plays, use his upper-body strength to move him to either side and make a play on the ball. … Uses arm-over move and violent hands to shoot the gap inside. … Will split double-team blocks to pressure the passer. … At end, he held his ground against the run and used his strength, hands and quickness to get by offensive tackles one-on-one. … Shows fairly quick feet, can stay off cut blocks, chase down the line and hustle downfield to get to the ball. … Doesn’t back down from anyone.

Negatives: Could work harder against double teams inside and too often stands around after initial contact. … Must improve his awareness on misdirections and screens. … Stamina is an issue, will be best as part of a rotation. … Showed potential in Happy Valley, but his redshirt junior season production came against a lower level of competition at a position he might not play in the NFL. … Character issues abound based on his record at Penn State.

Undrafted: picked up by Broncos

Sorry Randall15 but I see no value in picking the 2 players you referenced!
The undrafted Baker is a much better player is a true nose tackle and seems to only have character issues (which are dubious to say the least) against him.

This years draft is weak for both DT and NT. While next years is crammed full of quality DT & NT. Tyson Jackson went #3 to Kansas and he’s no way a top #10 pick ! In fact I really doubt in any other draft if he’d be a 1st rd draft choice. Outside of Raji there is very little to help right away at the NT position.

Stop dumping on the coach, get over baby Jays trade and support your team!

That is precious, CB...

Don’t forget, the 2-14 record will mean McIdiot traded away the first-overall pick in the 2010 Draft. Everyone wants the first pick, right? Right? I mean, who wouldn’t love the chance to draft a guy and pay him $45 million in guarantees to maybe suck?

by Douglas A. Lee on May 1, 2009 7:46 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

And next year's draft is WAY better than this year's

With the #3 pick, Coach McDumba$$ could have drafted two nose tackles, a rush linebacker and three defensive ends! And he cut Andrew Pinnuck [sic, ha!]! He cut the fullback, the fullback AND the long-snapper! McArrongHoddie is building a combination of Detroit South, Oakland East and Haiti North!

See what happens when you encourage me? I don’t mean to wear out this schtick, guys, but it really is good fun. This is the end of it, I swear.

In all seriousness, did you expect otherwise?

The guy isn’t very charming in front of the media, but he carries with him a remarkable track record of success as a coach. Doesn’t the default assumption have to be that he’s good on the field and with the players?

by Chibronx on May 1, 2009 8:28 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

no!

I don’t assume McD will!
I’m so far pleasantly surprized

by Whidbey Bronco on May 1, 2009 8:30 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t assume he’ll be great, either. Just to clarify, you really thought the jury was out as to whether a record-setting offensive coordinator would be personable with players on the field?

by Chibronx on May 1, 2009 8:35 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

One thing which I think should stop...

Is the comparison of McDaniels to the “other Belichick guys” – it’s unfair and (I think) not entirely based upon truth.

Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis are much better-labeled as “Parcells Guys”

Mangini and Nick Saban, those are Belichick guys. I know I’m leaving out some guys, but it’s not fair to compare McDaniels to all of those guys in one lumping.

by Douglas A. Lee on May 1, 2009 8:39 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

this is such a great point

Can you honestly imagine those other guys out there busting their butts like McD is? Lining up as a DB???

Wow.

I totally agree, NYC

I don’t think Pat hired McD because he was Belichick’s guy or a Patriot. Listen to him. Watch him with the players. The guy has a fire inside and a very clear plan in mind. THAT is why Pat hired him. I think what other Patriot guys have done is completely irrelevant to McDaniels.

by RafaTheRed on May 2, 2009 9:10 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

it's not a Belichick assistant competition

None of the other HC to come out of that tree have blown the world up, but I’m optimistic on McDaniels on his own merits. The guy busts his tail, and has passion. I also don’t believe for a second that this year is all he gets. The team will show improvement, and the staff will get at least 2-3 to bring us back to playoff-caliber.

I always wondered why an “offensive” or “defensive” minded coaches don’t call the plays that they specialize in. Hearing that Josh will be calling the plays shows that he is best suited to implement the amoeba offense and adapting as needed and I applaud him. I believe in using the respective co-ordinators to research and solidify their team against the next upcoming opponent.

I’m glad to see that Josh also knows defense in order to make WR better in their routes. Watching him run with the players shows that you must lead by example if you want to command leadership. So wonderfully spoken by Gibson in “We were soldiers”, I will be the first to step off the helicopter and the last. Give me that leadership anyday at work.

As a contract for hire or “free agent” in the healthcare field, in my visit among numerous hospitals nationwide that cannot retain staff is not due to personnel, most generally try their best, but mid level management inability to adapt to unforseen problems or implement accountability. As a former prep cook at Pizza Hut and KFC and bag boy at a grocery stere, there are always lazy workers and hard workers. Cutting a healthcare worker is not as easy as cutting a player who doesn’t perform to a certain standard. It starts from the top, Director, of a dept in the hospital to set the standard and that applies to football as well in terms of Head Coaches. My search still continues to permanently work at a hospital where management and staff are performing at a high level of standard to care for patients.

How many times have you heard stories regarding healthcare mishaps? To err is to be human but as mentioned among the players, frequent mistakes of the same nature become a problem not only in football but in healthcare as well.

Personally, I have been satisfied with the new Broncos and can’t wait for preseason.

You know, I wonder what the reaction would have been

if they had traded up to take Maualuga or Brace. I bet it would have been considered a masterstroke. Instead, they traded up for a quck, fluid, bright, well-coached CB with tremendous ball skills (and I mean TREMENDOUS.) All anybody can say is that he’s 5-9 though. When he gets 6 or 7 INTs this year, playing the slot, what will Clayton say then?

No Doubt

There is not doubt about it. If we had packaged ALL our picks or both our 1st rounders and moved up to draft Raji, Sanchez, Rey or anyone in the 1st round they would have called it a master stroke.

by Kfustud on May 1, 2009 8:29 AM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

No....

Actually, if Denver had done that, all we would have heard about are the question marks with Raji, Sanchez or Rey and what a horrible gambel it was.

There was no way McDaniels and Xanders were going to avoid criticism for this draft. If they stayed pat, everyone they missed would have been the next coming of Peyton Manning. If they moved, it would have been sacraficing need to get someone they could have had anyway.

The “experts” had already made up their minds in February that McDaniels was a disaster and everything he does just confirms that for them.

Balance?

I remain astounded as to the polarity that remains in the Bronco Nation, thinking that the departure of Jay Cutler would be forgotten and most people would jump on the new coach bandwagon. MHR clearly has, with both feet.

My feet are clearly straddled across the blue line, liking some of the new coach’s moves and stress on character, yet there is a very strong streak of egotism in his personality that just rubs me the wrong way.

However, I am accepting reality and just watching this all play out. I like the new players and hope for the best. My comment on the all character draft is that I remember similar drafts in prior years and fans then were saying they didn’t want boy scouts, they wanted football players. It’s just interesting how things come full circle.

I am hoping for the best for the Broncos in the coming year, I am just not yet capable of wrapping the current Bronco leadership with glowing adjectives. Maybe that will change. So put me in the camp of neither the boosters, nor the grumps, but maybe the slightly detached. I must say that as a Bronco fan, I have never felt that way before.

Nothing wrong with that...

BB, keep in mind that this is a site for and by Broncos fans. We’re not a neutral bunch of guys here, we’re huge Broncos fans. Personally, I have no problem with folks being critical. What I have a problem with is overreaction and presumption. Certain folks are flipping out about the draft, but the draft is only a fraction of the offseason. There’s also UFAs to consider (not count on, but consider), and veteran cuts who will surely be signed after May 1 and June 1. It happens every year, and it bothers me when people decide what the Broncos needed to get out of the draft. I say they needed talent. Folks are so focused on the draft, that they assume McDaniels and Xanders are going into the season with the roster constructed exactly as it is today. That is ridiculous!

No Problem Mate

Look, the reality is that I think this webpage makes a few underlining assumptions that are missing elsewhere.

1st we assume that McD isn’t the dumbest man in the world and has a reason for what he does. This leads us to look for that reason.

2nd we don’t assume Bowlen is the worst owner in the league and also had reasons. This leads us to trust in our 1st assumption.

3rd we don’t assume that Denver was a Championship team with a less than stellar front 7. This leads us to look at the rest of the team as needing improvement.

4th we don’t assume that you should rename the NFL, NQL National QB League. This leads us to look at positive team improvement as being good over losing a single player.

There are a few others but these seem to be the big ones. The analysis we do gives us an optimistic outlook but I think it only seems so polar because everyone else is so crazy negative. If you ask around people are still mixed about what our record will be.

I don't think you've earned the right to

That’s it. Garner some respect first and then you will, maybe.. just maybe earn that right. Most likely then you would lose that respect by choosing to take down someone’s integrity.

More importantly, if you choose to make such an accusation, then you better come armed with irrefutable proof. Not just some example. But a case that you wish to be heard that proves their motivation.

Gaining respect isn't really the issue

but you are spot on with having proof if someone wants to accuse any member of this community of anything.

Yeah, McD was a

complete moron for cutting Dre Bly, Anthony Aldrige, John Engleberger, Nate Jackson, Niko K, Marquand Manuel, Dewayne Robertson, Josh Shaw, Jaime Winborn, Selvin Young, PJ Pope, Tatum Bell, Andre Hall, Marlon McCree, NATE WEBSTER, and Hackney?

Or for firing, Jeremy Bates, Bob Slowik, and there rest of the hold overs who were a combined 24-24 over the past three season?

Just wondering if your only angst with McD is because PAT BOWLEN traded him to the Bears, because Jay Cutler refused to reconcile with the team.

I will defend the team on this one, but that doesn’t mean I will ALWAYS defend the team. Try harder to check your emotions at the door man, or just focus on the hear and now. What is done is done. Either you are going to continue being a Bronco fan or you are going to jump ship and root for the Bears. Make a decision and move on!

I come here to hear from true fans.

Folks that bleed orange & blue.

BTW Did you even read my remarks?
I merely said some people “don’t want to offend the organization”.
Some of them, not all.
I didn’t call them ‘Puppets of the PR machine’ as many do!
I simply feel they have the tendency to ‘tow the company line’ at times, over (my opinion of) reality.

I will reiterate my appreciation for their work.
Thank You very much for your work here! I find it insightful, intelligent, informative, accurate & generally NOT biased unreasonably towards the organization!

It pisses me off when I feel it is biased probably almost as much as my implication of the same. In some manner of apology… however weak.

Gotta love a book like Tea Time

American woman living in London (constantly P.O’d because no one in London will deliver pizza) meets Thor, the Norse God of War, who is a madman (and everywhere he goes he’s carting a large Coke machine – but there’s a reason for it) and there is also a raging eagle causing problems. Enter Dirk Gently, who runs the Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency. Gently awakens one morning in his bedroom which is full of empty pizza boxes and stuffed ashtrays. He makes his way to the kitchen, but he is afraid to open the frig because he hasn’t done so in a long time and he’s afraid of what he might find. A few days before, he plucked one of his hairs and stuck it on the bottom of the door so he’d be able to learn whether his cleaning lady had been inside the frig to clean it, so he bends down to look for his hair. Alas, it’s still there. Then, to his horror, he sees one of his cleaning lady’s (red) hairs stuck above his. Really, Adams makes all this hilarious. Toss in a ghost, and Odin, who is very old and lives in a rest home (he likes it because they change his sheets twice a day) and a basic theme that modern people don’t need Gods any more (or do they?) and it’s a great book. Been years since I read it, but I’m going to make it my next read.

American Gods

It’s about the gods all the immigrants to America brought with them from the homelands, and how those gods are struggling to survive against the NEW American gods (technology). The narrative focuses around a roadtrip motif, on a man named Shadow (who might possibly be the Norse god Balder) who meets another man named Wednesday, who happens to be an incarnation of the Norse god Odin. Neil weaves all sorts of different mythologies in; it’s Gaiman at his best.

American Gods

I just placed a hold on it at my local library. Technology also is the reason that modern people don’t think they need the Gods (in Tea Time).
Michael Gruber is another excellent writer who has three books set in Miami, with lots of gods and magic importred from Africa and Cuba set around a murder mystery. Gruber’s first is Tropic of Night, then Valley of Bones, then Night of the Jaguar. All set im Miami, with Detective Jimmy Paz (a Cuban born cop whose mother is incredible) and all extremely well written. But where Adams is funny, Gruber is very serious.

I normally don't get too buzzed about these things

But you want to attack the people who are the backbone of this site and question their ethics then my personal opinion is that you’ve gone way too far.

Attach the team, the coaches anyone but i think personal attacks and in particular personal attacks on how this site is run. Remember that this is the site you’re currently posting on.

That’s all I’m going to say.

This is fascinating

Just taking a step back from the back-and-forth for a minute to reflect. This is just one fascinating discussion, imo. And another reason to LOVE MHR. Where else will you get people debating about what it actually means to be a fan? To tear into social mores and dissect discussion, all in the name of breaking down the guarded, off-season moves of a professional football team? Drama is drama, but if there will be arguments anyway, I’ll just argue that conversations like this one are good for us as a community. We get a chance to explore and define the limits of our fandom, defend our points of view, and maybe … just maybe… understand the counterarguments a little bit more.

I can’t condone the way threads get hijacked — poor NYC! — but I certainly don’t mind us testing ourselves like this. I’m not saying we shouldn’t be civil (or that we should). Just that I have a lot of respect for those who fight hard for their opinions.

Frankly, as Bronco fans, we should all have thick skin by now anyway, right? ^^

I'm not going to engage with you either...

I think you’re a classic example of a troll, just looking to get a rise out of people, and spark pointless back-and-forth. That adds zero value to this community, so you can say what you want, but I am not going to play. If it’s out of line, I’ll just flag you, and leave it for Guru to deal with.

This is not the Denver Post message board, and we’re nothing like any message board in fact. My objective here isn’t to outwit or out-argue anybody, it’s to share in the Broncos fan experience with the rest of the community. As Styg noted the other day, the ability to get along in a friendly community, while sometimes agreeing to disagree in a respectful and civil way, seems to be tied to self-esteem. You’ll get a lot further here by getting along, even when you disagree, than you will by trying to bait people into pointless, thread-jacking, back-and-forth arguing.

James Taylor

I think all of us Bronco fans should go to a James Taylor concert and mellow out. Or, to a Carly Simon concert, she is cuter.

I have never seen such a divisive environment around the Broncos before and we can’t seem to get over it. That’s sad. Too much name-calling on both sides.

… and, I am no less a Bronco fan than I was before, I am just sitting back, letting the new crowd do their thing, and I hope I warm up to them. The Broncos, well, if you saw my basement, my football card collection, my bookshelves, I think you know that you never stop being the fan of a team. I had parties for lots of lost SuperBowls back here in the East when everyone made fun of them. My blood is Bronco orange.

Still, this episode hasn’t been fun.

Great starting thought

"With so much coaching talent in the city, people who must have visited all the combines, scouted all the players personally, and actually been important cogs in successful NFL franchises themselves, what was Bowlen thinking when he passed all of them up for Josh McDaniels?"

"From the get-go, we targeted a certain type of player: tough, smart, competitive, versatile, a good person that loves football and wants to win." -Coach McDaniels

Loved that one

It just amazes me what with how many dead-lock NFL experts there are in this town (you know, the same ones that have never held a job, ever, with any football organization anywhere) that the fool Bowlen would choose this dumb kid that clearly doesn’t know jack squat. Who CARES that he’s pretty much been immersed in coaching his whole life- he traded cutler and cut Selvin Young!

LOL

Funny how many fans have delusions of adequacy, isn’t it?

by AllBroncsallday on May 1, 2009 4:11 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

And here it is

Disagreement is good! Opposing positions, when laid out well, are awesome! This comment, however, is representative of what is getting people riled up: what does it add? It’s a jab, a snide remark (which you don’t want from the “koolaid” crowd, but are fine dispensing yourself) that can’t help the situation.

I understand: you’re a fan! Like everyone here, you’re passionate about the Broncos. Your opinion of the team’s offseason moves aren’t as rosy as others, and you don’t want to see the team you love become a joke (well, in the D’s case…maybe MORE of a joke…Hurk…) There are a range of people here, and I’d bet anything that you’d find more people that shared your opinions if you’d let the dialog progress with respect.

For example, my brother-in-law, another huge Denver fan. We sit on opposite sides of the McJayGate issue…but that hasn’t prevented either of us from being good friends, talking football, making some some jabs at each other (but a note here: jabs are fun, but context is VITAL. My bro-in-law know each other well, so we know the context. When you’re remarking in jest, make a sign of it). Anyway, in the end, we’re both Denver fans, and we’ll share drinks over the Broncos regardless of the outcome.

And my concentration is spotty, as I put The Golden Voyage of Sinbad on through Netflix. So bad, it’s good.

Anyway, we’re coming from the same place: we want Denver to win. We differ in opinion on this offseasons value, but we’re on the same side here. Let’s all try to keep a high level of respect for other members, regardless of opinion (myself included…I’ve gone off the deep end myself).

Cheers

OK OK I GIVE!!

I’d be more than happy to share a drink (so long as it’s not kool aid laced) with anyone here!! I’d love to! I too think we’d get along just fine. I’m a hell of a guy.

Hell, I’ve got Raider fans that are like brothers to me! (They’ve actually escorted me through the black hole before) If I can drink with that lot, I reckon we can find some common ground!

by Whidbey Bronco on May 1, 2009 8:02 PM MDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course we have common ground

Wasn’t so much this particular comment; this just happened to be where I responded.

And I have a bunch of college friends from Kansas City (it was fun being a Bronco fan in KC during college), so yeah, common ground is easy to find.

Maybe all I’m saying is: there are many koolaid drinkers on this site. Hell, I’m probably one of them, if for no other reason than I’m a fan for the enjoyment, and I find myself getting excessively pessimistic about things if I don’t intentionally try to stay positive.

More rambling, when I’m not taking my own advice. We’re on the same side. And I’m glad you have some of the decent raider fans as friends to get you out of the Black Hole. I’ve gone through Arrowhead, but that’s nothing compared to oakland! :)

All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

I hadn't heard that Denver asked the family first

Awesome news, thanks WB!

And agreed: hope Knowshon realizes the significance of the number (D-Will and Atwater) and wears it with pride.

feel the love

Actually it doesn’t take much to bring true fans together. Jeepers I’d misplaced the Atwater connection I’m embarrassed to say!
Moreno seems like the right cat for such an honor…

Target numero uno

in my keeper league. First pick will almost certainly go with Crabtree (big 49ers fan); number two is a huge unknown (she’s a KC fan and about to have her first kid)…then my dad at three. THAT is the pick I’m worried about (I’m at 4), so I may need to jump to 2nd.

Always good when you can cheer for your team AND your fantasy team at the same time (but Broncos will ALWAYS have precedence, let there be no doubt). :o)

i like to draft broncos but i never bet with my heart....

yes i do
but that’s my rule…
Except for the committee rb look of our present line-up, looks like a Bronco will rush for some serious yards this season.
