Salute to Shannon Sharpe
Shannon was always one of my favorite Broncos, and I feel fortunate to have been able to watch his entire career in Denver. Congrats to him for his election to the ring. Now, let’s all hope that the HOF voters get it right soon, and also put him in Canton where he belongs!

NYC - you rock! Thanks so much!
Re: The Elway Example. Bretherton starts out by outlining John’s retirement and the reason for it – not feeling physically up to the task anymore. Then he ends his thought with this:
a future Hall of Fame quarterback like Favre may get one more chance to play the game he loves and has given so much to. If he does play this season, the N.F.L. and its fans will only stand to gain.
That doesn’t sound like he wished Brett would have hung up his cleats with John’s grace. The way he talked about being shocked that John felt not physically up to another season, it almost sounds like he wishes John would have stuck around for one more year.

I wish John had stuck around, too
I don’t mean that out of pure selfishness (watching him play). In my heart, I have always believed that if John had returned, the Broncos would have had a significant chance of three-peating, and maybe TD doesn’t suffer his catastrophic knee injury. I realize these are gigantic “ifs” and we will obviously never know what would have happened, but if Denver had won 3 straight Super Bowls they would have been the only team (to this point) to do so. This would have also gone a long way to further solidify Elway as The Greatest Ever. We’d have that much more of an argument for John’s legacy against Niners and Pats fans, as Montana and Brady never won three straight. Plus, maybe TD would now be a lock for the HOF. Oh, well. I know that sounds greedy, but of course I’m grateful for the two titles and to have witnessed them. I will just always wonder…

I know...it's fun to think about
what if John had stayed…then maybe TD wouldn’t have had that injury…and we went for – and won – a threepeat! Greedy to take away the Rams first SB win…but you can’t help but wonder…

True, but...
Part of what made John so great was that he knew when he was done. He was honest with himself and didn’t hold the franchise and league hostage to satisfy his own vanity. Besides, you can’t fault the guy for going out on top. He ended his career pretty much the best way possible – with a Super Bowl MVP and repeat . I don’t know that there’s realistically anything else he could have accomplished.

Who's faulting him?
He made his decision; I’m sure he would have played if he felt he were able. But is it not realistic to say the Broncos’ could’ve achieved an unprecedented threepeat and vaulted themselves into the conversation of Best Team Ever?

Oh I agree, Hai17
And I respect him all the more for the way he went out. :-)

“……..We’ll see. For an average quarterback, there sure were a lot of teams falling all over themselves trying to get Cutler. You make some valid points, because he hasn’t played well late in seasons early in his career. But let’s not kill Cutler because the Denver defense gave up 30, 30 and 52 points, respectively, in the last three games last year……..”

As a former
Member of our military, I applaud ANYONE who serves. No matter if they are in the field, working under a plane or in Supply. Its not an easy life and especially now it can be hard as hell. Being away from family and friends for months at a time is hard, but for some clown to belittle another servicemans actual service is beyond the pale. I have stronger feelings but this is a g rated site.

A second game in England?
NO. I don’t like that there is one regular season game over there. No offense to England, however team only get 8 home games and I don’t think those should be taken away from town that supports them daily. I don’t live in Denver, yet I would be pissed if Denver had to play one of it’s home games overseas.
I know the tickets were sold very quickly and everyone over there is excited, however they don’t have NFL games over there so of course the will be excited when teams play over there.

Sporting News Rankings
Centers:
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=547850
No mention of Casey Weigmann. Which means outside of Ryan Clady, the statistically best OL in the NFL last year is shut out. Truly is a position where the unit is stronger than the pieces I guess, but there are not 10 guards I’d take over Kuper and there sure as heck aren’t 10 centers better than Weigmann.
Tight End:
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=548205
Completely shut out here. Which is a little strange since Scheffler was the only TE in the top-20 of Yards per Catch last year. They actually have rookie Brandon Pettigrew on the list, but no Dan Graham or Tony Scheffler. Huh?
Wide Receivers:
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=548492
Brandon Marshall is 17th. They actually have Chad Ocho Cinco in front of him. Wow. I guess it’s because of the uncertainty at QB, but there are not 17 better WRs, especially since drops aren’t an issue with Braylon Edwards at 7 and TO at 6.

I like it
Keep underestimating the Broncos, cBSmedia (h/t papi)…. I like flying under the radar, personally.
Clearly the Broncos are the favorite whipping boy of the BSmedia of late. I’d really, REALLY like to see McD make all the haters eat it.
