Who Would YOU Cut?
So I have seen people up in arms over cutting JJ Arrington. We shoudlnt have signed him in the first place, he cost us a lot, why did we draft Moreno among other questions. We all know there are only 53 roster spots on the team so the question becomes who do you cut?
How many QB's do you keep?
How many RB's do you keep?
How many WR do you keep?
TE? OL? DL? LB? CB? DB? PK? P? LS?
if you know there are only 53 spots you cant keep ALL your RB's and have good depth in other places. Like I have said before. Alot of our off season aquisitions could end up Camp fodder!
SO...Who do YOU Cut/KEEP?

first, i want to point out JJ didnt cost us anything, there was a clause in his contract letting us get out free if his knee didnt hold up(or so ive heard)
second, i would cut jordan and buckhalter. keep darius butler for ps, ATV for backup and start the boulder and the bullet.

Right now....
I keep the 3 QBs, and one kicker and one punter. For all the rest, I will wait until I see who can play before I start worrying about numbers.

I agree we never should of signed him
What annoys me is that they cut Alridge, who showed some great promise as a 3rd down back and KR and signed a total bust in Arrington for a lot more money. I am not surprised they cut him, I figured he would be cut in training camp regardless. But it is just this attitude that anyone that Shanahan touched is garbage and needs to be removed in place of some overpriced vet.

You do realize
that signing Arrington cost the Broncos nothing? The contract according to the Denver Post was contingent on his knee being sound and passing a physical. Who has picked up Alridge or Torian? Have they signed with any other teams yet, and do you think we could resign them?

Found the answers to my questions...
Alridge is on the Redskins roster and voila! Torain is right in our backyard. Somewhere a comment was made that Bobby Turner doesn’t make many mistakes. I wonder what he saw in allowing Alridge to get away, that he didn’t like in his game?

only straight line speed
It’s interesting to see how opinions are formed. Alridge caught our attention because of his speed but showed little else in his short tenure.
I, too, liked the idea of keeping him around for a while longer, but it’s hard to justify keeping a RB whose only contribution is straightline speed. Pass catching ability, blocking or elusiveness would have been nice additions to his speed, and might have kept him around.

That's right, Ski
It’s also a point to be made that Alridge was considered too light to play the position without injury and was promptly injured in training camp. You can like him or not, but the odds on him staying healthy are significantly lower than a stronger player.

yes
I forgot to add that.
If he only showed some utility in another aspect of the game, such as pass catching. His size was a significant issue, since he made very little yardage after contact.
The presence of metric-based thinking is pronounced in his popularity. He only played a major role in one pre-season game, that I recall, yet he had a substantial following. Speed clearly has a value but his popularity was disproportionately large when compared to his minuscule level of success. I do recall that he led the team in rushing for the pre-season, which only tells me how little value pre-season statistics have.

did anyone ever see alridge interviews?
I stand by my assertion that he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, which will cut down on his versatility.

Right now (without training camp)
I would say two QB’s (have a third on PS) (Orton and Simms)
Probably five RBs (Moreno, Torain, Hillis, Jordan, and Buckhalter, although I think there may be a sleeper somewhere that removes Buckhalter)
Probably six to seven WR (Marshall, Royal, Stokely, whoever else makes it in training camp)

More to come
I think all of us need to be prepared for some cuts that don’t make sense from our point of view. Especially with respect to those players that were part of the old regime. I have read alot written about the new organizational culture and seen alot of positive things said. In the end, I believe some of these guys we have grown to appreciate and love on D and O may get the ax. It won’t be completely skill related, although I hope skill is the biggest part. When you read alot about organizational change, although talent is critical, team players and commitment are more important.
I think its only gonna get more frustrating from here on in.

I agree.
But these will be minor frustrations that we should all be able to get over easily. We as fans with no access to the Dove Valley front office should take all this news with a “hmmm…that’s interesting” approach. We should debate the merits of each move, but there’s no need to deride decisions which are out of our control, and which we, frankly, lack the firsthand knowledge to make. Trust in the guys who get paid to do this. They know more than we do, and they have reasons for doing what they do. Regardless of the opinions of the conspiracy theorists, McDaniels is not trying to sabotage this team in the name of Belichick. He is making the moves he thinks will help this team win. Let’s trust in what the guy sees and move forward trying to analyze what he’s doing, not trying to out-coach him. The questions we as fans should ask are “What is he doing? What is his angle? Why did he make that move? What is the upside of that move?” The types of statements which are dangerous include, “What a stupid move! Only an idiot would release THAT guy! Our season is doomed. The Broncos are done. We’re gonna go 3-13”

Cut
I would probably bring in the best players I possibly could and cut the worst from them.
My ideal would be that the players I cut would be good players because that means the guys I have left are great players.
Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

I hope we cut
LaMont Jordan, but that’s just because he has “Raiders” stink on him and that funk just doesn’t wash off! As for QBs, I think we go with Orton and Simms and put the rook on the practice squad. In my mind, our O-Line should be able to keep our QB relatively protected from taking too many killer shots.
Beware the wrath of a patient adversary.

Brandstater in
Unless Brandstater is just terrible in camps there is no way that we drafted him to put him on the PS. If he is the eventual heir he will be on the active roster and will be the sideline signal caller where he can learn the offense rather than learn the other teams scout O’s. So i go with 3 qb’s. I know this throws a stick in the wheel of some of your plans to have 14 rb’s and wr’s but i think that we will cut some fat from the rb train. I have to believe that Turner has some sort of say in which rb’s are worth keeping around and releasing which means alridge and torain weren’t that impressive to him. You could practically see this Arrington thing coming from the moment he was signed…

my quick take
QB’s KO, Simms and the rookie-I believe its been commented on that Shanny’s 2 QB’s and one on the practice squad won’t be kept even though we all think its the best way to proceed. Expect the rookie on the 53
RB/FB-5, Moreno, Hillis, Torian, Jordan, Larson, Walker-Jordan knows the system from Indy so is a player coach type, Larson is FB/LB special teams guy, Walker is return and screen catcher, Torian only because McKid kept Turner who really is high on him. Buckhalter is odd man out is he doesn’t fit specific role in the packages.
WR-Mashall, Gafney, Royal, Stokely, McKinney and Jackson
Gafney and Jackson know the Off with Gafney another player coach type and Jackson the highlighly talented but yet to produce guy. Stokley it pains me to say in likely his last year but to good to cut. Also have suspicion that could be traded for 4 rd when injuries happen in preseason to allow for another young guy to compete. Mckinney-the guy has a great press junket. Think Sheff and Hillis also have to be counted as wideout’s in certain packages
TE-Graham, Quinn, Sheff

Jon I agree with your Camp fodder comment.
But, I believe that some, not all, of these aquisitions were brought in to instill some competition among the ranks, so the cream rises to the top. As far as who I’d cut, it’s too early to tell. But, I would start watching the injured and their ability to recover and perform. Just like they did with Arrington, who ended up costing us very little if anything.
I do believe we’ll have 3 QB’s, 5 RB’s, 6 WR’s, 3 TE’s, 3 OT’s, 3 OG’s, 1 C on offense
Defense 7 DE/DT’s, 7 LB’s, 8 CB/S’s. Then you have the K, P, and LS. That leaves 4 players to add who will be mostly ST and roll players. But, then this is just my opinion of course.

LaMont Jordan
I thought we should keep him for a goal-line bruiser, but we have Hillis. Never liked him with the Jets, and definitely did not like him with the Raiders. He was an okay Patriot, I guess. Anyway, he’s my outcast. But we’ll probably keep him for depth.
If I was playing fantasy/Madden, I would probably trade Stokley. I love the guy, but he will always be a Colt in my mind, and health wise he is one concussion away from retirement. However, he could be of value to stay on and teach the tricks of the trade to Royal and McKinley (and possibly Swift).

Jordan & ZB
One thing in his favor is his familiarity with a ZB system, which started under Cable. His familiarity with McDaniels & the N.E. system is also in his favor. He followed JMc here and for a reason, and he stated those reasons when he signed. I’m less concerned about ‘who’ he played for than ‘how’ he can play.

Greetings Bronco fans.
My 1st post on this great site. My opinion on the 53 man roster. QB-2, RB-5, TE-3, OL-8, WR-6. DL-8, LB-8, CB-5, S-5. K-1, P-1, LS-1. I am a long time Broncos fan, who lives in the middle of KC Chiefs nation, which makes for a lot of heated debates (LOL). Love this sight. Lots of great information. BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

That looks pretty close though I think the hybrid DE/LBs like Doom Moss and Ayers could confuse the numbers.

Everette Pedesclaeux for Rulon Davis, Nate Swift for Jackson and McBath for Carter! No way a second rounder gets beaten out by a CFA.
