Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Horse Tracks 5/3/09

Horsetracks_new_medium

DP - Woody offers up an excellent interview with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen. Among other thoughts, it sounds like Joe Ellis is running the show, Bowlen reacted to the Broncos' draft like a fan, admits Denver probably won't win the Super Bowl this year, and good riddance to the quarterback who wouldn't return his phone calls.

DB - Saturday's pressers focused on the offensive line, as Ryan Harris, Seth Olsen and Blake Schlueter spoke. David Bruton also went to the podium, see video links with Gray Caldwell's article.

DP - LJones is confident that BDawk will quickly endear himself to Broncos fans everywhere.

DP - Klis finds out how new Broncos' director of college scouting Matt Russell discovered QB Matt Cassel for the Patriots. Also, Brian Xanders likely picked up the strategy of trading a future first-rounder for a current second-rounder from his time working under Bobby Beathard.

DP - LJones has some notes and quotes from the Saturday pressers.

Star-divide

NFL - The Cowboys' practice bubble collapsed, injuring 12 people. Former Broncos coach Joe DeCamillis (and son-in-law of Dan Reeves) broke multiple vertebrae but should recover. Yahoo has video of the accident here.

NFL - Former Bills quarterback, U.S. congressman and one-time vice-presidential nominee Jack Kemp passed away at the age of 73.

KCS - Kent Babb wonders if any Chefs fans will begrudge Tony Gonzalez for seeking a championship.

KCS - Bill Reiter profiles Chefs fifth-rounder Colin Brown, an offensive lineman from Missouri.

ESPN - Pork Chop says Dolts headhunter roidhead linebacker Shawne Merriman can change the way he's perceived.

SFG - Raiders DT Terdell Sands isn't going to miss Lane Kiffin.

NFL - Pat Kirwan reminds us that rookie pass-rushers rarely make a big impact.

NFP - Lisa Zimmerman looks into the minutiae of techniques involved with being a lineman in the NFL.

Good Morning all

Thanks nyc
I ‘ve been MIA for 2 days, so I don’t know if it’s been reported here, but I ran across an article on Yahoo,s Bronco Team Report(1 day old)

After drafting Ayers; Among the other nine picks they didn’t select any DLs or LBs. Broncos coach McDaniels said he didn’t like the available players at those positions in the draft. “I don’t think this was a very deep draft in terms of players that would fit our system in those areas.”

Wow! how did the MSM “Draft Experts” miss this one. I think they should have logged on to this community, because quite a few of the “Amateurs”(sic)here could have enlightened them.
Have a most excellent day everyone.

My Dad told me about the 4 seasons:
Pre-season
Regular-season
Post-season
Off-season

Great work nyc - If anyone hasn't read Lisa Zimmerman's article

they should! It’s a really good piece that drives home the point that line play is technique, technique, technique!
I wonder if she is any relationship to Dr Z.

Thanks for the Rec

I skipped over the article at first but I am glad I went back to read it, very good piece.

Woody's an odd bird but i like him

I liked hearing Bowlen express all of our outside looking in, fan-type doubts… while at the same time understanding his role and standing by his hires! He’s a good owner. He hired a very promising coach who “made rookie mistakes” and no doubt wishes Jay would have called him but he wasn’t going to choose Jay over his coach… so it ended the only way it could once Jay made up his mind. The only drama we really had was amongst ourselves. Hardly any back and forth BS in the media like so many teams & players do.

I can feel myself making the transition into supporting this new regime with my heart, as opposed to just cuz I have to as a diehard fan. Anyway, we can’t really say do or die this season and properly back our coach… Two steps back as we retool is just the way it’ll probably have to be… So I’ve decided in my magnanimity I’ll give him two years. Lol (provided he offers me SOMETHING to like & 7-9 or better)

Agreed on Bowlen

I was somewhat afraid ole’ Pat was getting a little too “hands on” for my taste. He sure cleared that conern up.

But, he backed the draft plan of his coach and general manager Brian Xanders. “I hired them to do their jobs,” he said. “I believe in them. It’s not my role to evaluate players and make those draft decisions. I’m not qualified to do it.”

Bowlen has displayed the perfect degree of separation.

BTW, thanks for the Horsetracks nyc. It sure saves all of us a lot of time! Mdierk reborn.

Who knew that the only thing holding it up was all that hot air from T.O.??

shame on u....

snicker
Hope everybody’s ok of course
I heard there were some serious injuries…

And on another down note

“Also, Brian Xanders likely picked up the strategy of trading a future first-rounder for a current second-rounder from his time working under Bobby Beathard.” Never liked that cat, but he did contribute to the building of some strong teams…

I know this was really awful

and just want everyone to know I’m sufficiently ashamed of myself. O.o I just… couldn’t… stop it…!

ok since i have work in the morning and will be busy all week... getting married WED yikes

I love Moreno, I’d still have taken Orakpo without blinking! But since we have him… I love the idea of another Georgia bulldog running wild in big D
Oh wow do I love it, especially since SD would probably have taken him before our #18!!
Still hasn’t anyone in the front office learned about the latest trend in drafting or should i say NOT drafting RB’s early… !!!!

Wasn’t it that team way up in the Rockies that taught the world that lesson?

I’d have traded up for Raji from 18 and taken Moreno at 12!!
What?

I’m not smart like Jo-osh, huh?

Ah shit, actually the trade up was pretty unreasonable…
Maybe tomorrow I’ll harp on the #1 for #2 trade again…
Generate some more posts and such?
Gosh I miss Shanny…
Couldn’t we bring Plummer back?
Is Al Wilson healthy yet?

Oh Oh…
Let’s resign John Lynch!!

Thanks folks ...I do it right cuz I do it twice...

I’m actually pretty stoked… flying to Phoenix for the honeymoon. Pretty appropriate. …Out of the flames comes a new start. Much like my Broncos & Avs, MY Suns need a new start too. Been a hard year for me sports-wise, let’s hope my teams go the way of my family. Nothing but up!
Good night all
Go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn that memory loss....

I feel Bowlen’s pain and I’m only 45 LOL…..

Errrr….what was I just talking about?

A proud prognostication of 10-6 in 2009!!!
