DB - Gray Caldwell reports from the final day of Denver's second mini-camp.

DB - Kyle Sonneman offers some more notes from practice.

DP - Klis also shares his notes from the mini-camp.

NFL - Here is the AP's report from the Broncos' mini-camp.

DB - Josh McDaniels briefly met with reporters after the last practice.

DB - Broncos TV has some practice footage (including Ryan Clady fielding a punt) and clips from McDaniels, Knowshon Moreno and Robert Ayers.

DP - Klis profiles Broncos DE Rulon Davis, the former Marine who played as a 3-4 defensive end at Cal and signed with Denver as an undrafted free-agent.

DP - Incredibly, Rulon's father named his son after Broncos great Rulon Jones, despite himself being a Dolts fan. Can you ever imagine naming your kid after a Chef, Dolt or Raider? Wow.

PDN - Quentin Mikell and the Iggles miss Brian Dawkins' leadership.

DP - Number 7 showed up at the Nuggets game to introduce Chauncey Billups. Elway also spoke with Brian Griese, and Jim Armstrong reminds fans that Denver's draft choices haven't even played a game yet.

Star-divide

NFL - A scouting assistant for the Cowboys suffered permanent paralysis below the waist as a result of the team's practice facility collapsing.

NFL - Vic Carucci eulogizes the late Jack Kemp.

NFL - LDT was healthy enough to fully participate at the Dolts' mini-camp.

SDUT - Fourth-rounder DL Vaughn Martin arrived at Dolts camp via Jamaica and Canada, and played cricket and soccer growing up.

SDUT - Kevin Acee shares notes on OG Kynan Forney and Dolts mini-camp.

SDUT - Interesting...with a top-notch PK in Nate Kaeding, the Dolts still brought in another kicker. The Broncos, with one of the most inconsistent, did not. What gives?

KCS - Adam Teicher profiles new Chefs LB Zach Thomas.

NFL - Jason Feller looks at the 10 biggest star-for-draft-picks trades in NFL history before the Jay Cutler trade. For the most part, the teams getting the picks fared better (according to Feller, although the title says otherwise).

SI - Peter King examines Brett Favre and the Vikings (puke) and the Iggles' draft, among other stories as part of his Monday column.

NYT - K.C. Joyner joins King in writing about the legendary Paul Zimmerman, who is rehabilitating from several strokes.

NFP - Here was Mike Lombardi's excellent Sunday column. He includes some reason as to why teams may have shied away from drafting Rey Maualuga.

On peter king

While describing the Philadelphia draft, King says that they used a 7th round pick acquired from Seattle to draft running back Javarris Williams. Not true – Williams was a 7th round pick by Kansas City. The Philly picks were a guard and an OLB in the 7th.

Thanks again for the Tracks, my friend. Such a great addition to MHR

You know, we had another former marine here for a few years...

I seem to recall him doing alright while he was here. (RB Mike Anderson for the ones who may not be aware)

interesting bit from Lombardi
Everyone talked about what position the Lions needed to improve before the draft. In the Lions’ draft room, there was a simple message: "We need talent." Well said. The Lions beat out several teams for their fourth-round pick, Sammie Lee Hill from Stillman College. I talked to two teams that really wanted Hill in the fourth. The other name I heard from teams disappointed to lose him in the fourth was Vaughn Martin, who went to the Chargers. Martin is a big body who can help the Chargers’ inside run defense and allow Jamal Williams a break from time to time.

this is for all those people who thought “we could have waited and got X player in the Y round”

Oh really...

So you’re saying that if we hadn’t taken Knowshon at #12, that he wouldn’t have been there at #18? Or that Quinn wouldn’t have 100% been available at #79? I don’t understand. Isn’t every pick aside from Denver’s set in stone? I mean, really – why didn’t McIdiot trade back to picks 225 through 241? Not only could we have picked up more players and future picks, but we would’ve ended up with the same guys anyway, right?

:)

we could have had the entire 7th round to ourselves and still picked up Knowshon, Ayers, Smith and 29 more players of their equivalent abilities….

Lol, I was just about to post a fanshot of the practice footage with Clady fielding the punt.

Thanks for the Horse Tracks, NYC.

that was awesome

Gotta believe McD loves his versatility, but I question whether he could elude tacklers in the open field. ; )

If only we could give him a few carries every game

but even for a man of such immense talent, blocking for himself might be a little much to ask.

Nice piece on Rulon Davis.

Gotta root for that guy to make the team.

For those of you that have questions on Kyle Orton, you may want to check out this article by Charles Robinson over at Yahoo Sports. It may offer a glimmer of promise and a little gem in the pocket of Coach McD.

“Kyles arm,” the coach says, “was strong enough to overthrow Eddie Royal today.”

Curious metaphor
McDaniels will likely need it all this season, considering the autopsy the Broncos are about to undergo.

Autopsy? What, are we dead? When did this happen? Is there a period of mourning? Do we have to go find another team to root for now?

methinks

that this year, our opponents will find that the rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated.
