The 2009 NFL season marks the 50th season of the Denver Broncos. To celebrate the past and embrace the future, the franchise is recognizing its community of fans as being a part of Broncos Country for 50 seasons.

A Legacy Game will take place Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, in the Broncos' home game vs. the New England Patriots, which kicks off at 2:15 p.m. The Broncos played their first season in 1960 with seven other teams in the American Football League: Buffalo Bills, Dallas Texans (became the Kansas City Chiefs), Boston Patriots (became the New England Patriots), Titans of New York (became the New York Jets), Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Houston Oilers (became the Tennessee Titans).

In an effort to "turn back the clock," the entire Broncos team will be wearing classic yellow and brown jerseys with brown helmets. The cheerleaders will be wearing their own version of a yellow and brown outfit. Other specific details surrounding the game are still pending, but fans will step into the past and experience elements of the Broncos first season. Yellow and brown merchandise is currently for sale at the Denver Broncos Team Store at INVESCO Field at Mile High and online at DenverBroncosProShop.com.

The Broncos also plan to recognize the elite group of season ticket holders who have held their seat accounts since 1960 throughout the Legacy Game weekend.

Fans will have the opportunity to select their All-Time Broncos team through an online vote. Fans will choose their favorite Broncos by position and the top vote-getters will make up the 50th Anniversary team. That team will be honored on the field during the Legacy Game on October 11. Additionally, one lucky fan will have the opportunity to join the 50th Anniversary team during the ceremony.

Voting for the 50th Anniversary team will begin June 6 at Broncos Fan Fair. Fans can vote by logging on to DenverBroncos.com or on computer kiosks at various team events. Voting will conclude on September 4.

For more details and to purchase 2009 season tickets, please visit DenverBroncos.com.

Wow, that is two days after my birthday!

So is mine. 10-9-62 baby!

Awesome! 10-9-78 here

I did an “indepth” study of our birthday as related to the Broncos success a while back..like one of my first every posts on MHR. Basically, the Broncos are money on or around our birthday throughout my life. I didn’t go back to 1962…but really that would have skewed my point as we didn’t win many games back then. lol

http://www.milehighreport.com/2007/10/3/132157/454 (23-4 at the time of that post)

I think we lost that game though if memory serves me correctly. Ruined my whole week and broke a string of 14 straight years of winning on or near my birthday. Damn Cutler. I think he lost on or near my birthday last year too. Dirty rotten…mumble…it’s all his fault. I had a good thing going before he came along and mucked everything up! lol Yeah, it’s all his fault. ;-)

God what I wouldn’t give to be 29 again…………

If they don't

it is a complete failure. If they’re not going to do it right (and by right, they need the socks AND every single member of the team must be wearing them), then don’t do it at all. :o)

Personally, I can’t wait to see them! So ugly, they’re awesome.

BURN THE SOCKS! ! !

A BON FIRE to burn the vertical striped socks after the New England game could be a Great Charity and PR opportunity. People would stick around to burn the socks the TEAM could sell for the Charity of choice and have an opportunity to rub elbows with the players, Coaches, and maybe Pat Bowlen. This could be big! and we could start a new tradition.
The more I think about this the more I like it. BURN THE SOCKS! ! !

I didn't think any uniforms could be uglier than the

throwbacks the Jets donned last year. Then we have to dig these relics up and make me all ashamed…. We’re gonna look like the Denver Hornets. I would love to just shellac New England in them, Good, Bad, and Ugly style. Good (our Defense), Bad(ass offense), and Ugly (uniforms). Smashmouth football with a hideous outfit, and we don’t care if you make fun of us, just look at the scoreboard.

May our NEXT 50 years be a vast improvement.

Time to turn the page on the past, and create a new era of excellence. This is perfect. Old uniforms or not, let’s use the past as a reminder, not as a pattern to follow. We need many more wins than that first season!

Silly Throwbacks

While the idea here is sound- I’m all for celebrations of where we’ve come from as a team- there are some uniforms that just shouldn’t be worn again, and by and large every throw-back uniform I’ve seen has fit that bill. I’d love the Broncos to roll out in our last uni before the redesign, circa the Elway days, as those are the ones that really bring on the nostalgia for me, but I think it’s probably hard to play with confidence and win in something that just looks silly. I mean, nothing says “Broncos!” to most fans more than brown and yellow, I’m sure….

Original radio broadcast

Too bad Bob Martin isn’t around today to give the color and reminisce about the game in Boston. I was twelve years old when I listened to the game with Frank Tripucka slinging to Lionel Taylor and Gene Mingo. Martin was sooooooo good. I can’t remember the color guy, anyone remember?

Paper Route

I had a paper route for the Denver Post at the time, and would listen to a transistor radio while tossing my papers on my route.

Usually, in those early days, Bronco quarterbacks were tossing more interceptions than touchdowns.

This should be fun.
