Something I overlooked earlier
I read the nycbroncosfan Horse Tracks of 5/3/09 again. I looked further into the link about Bowlen. The article DP - Woody offers up an excellent interview with Broncos owner Pat Bowlen stated:
His health "is good," but he has experienced "short-term memory loss" in recent months.
I dread the thought of Bowlen getting Alzheimer. He is already turning much of the Broncos football operations over to Joe Ellis.
It is sad to think about the prospects of losing such a good owner. My hope is that the Alzheimer goes into remission and Bowlen stays in charge for a long time.

I think he was referring to...
His fading memories of Super Bowl glory. Now that you mention it, so am I….

Another mention
of fading memory was made prior to the Cutler departure. He indicated he could not swear for sure he had not received a return call from the player. But then again, I can’t remember squat anymore either and i don’t think I have Alzheimer’s.

Not to worry abou this one...
Cutler admits he never called him back. He trys to claim noone called him, despite the call records that say different…….
I agree about Bowlin. I don’t want anything to interfer with his enjoyment of the next Super Bowl win!

or was it simply an attempt at humor?
He made the same comment when Jay C claimed that Bowlen had promised him that Bates would be retained. Bowlen said something to the effect of “I don’t remember that conversation, but then I have short term memory loss”.
It sounded to me like Pat was trying to defuse the reporters’ concerns with some humor.
Pray for the best, prepare for the worst, and hope you come down somewhere between the two.

I sincerely hope that
this is falsely inferred and reported by the MSM.

I didn't intend for the post to be funny
I was worried about Bowlen’s health.

What man actually needs is not a tensionless state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him. What he needs is not the discharge of tension at any cost, but the call of a potential meaning waiting to be fulfilled by him.
Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

Thats why emails and print is hard to guage in what context this was said...
My reaction was that it was said tongue in cheek just for the fact he said he was getting older…..i turn 40 this year and I forget nore than I did when i was 20….so what….I have a lot more going on too!

Can you imagine Pat walking into Dove Valley and saying...
Hey where’s Mike, I need to talk to him about this Josh guy saying he’s the HC around here.
I have to admit I don’t really think this is a big problem, either Mr. Bowlen was tactfully deflecting a question that couldn’t have a PC answer or he was poking fun at himself. Either way he’ll be around for a long time, He was adamant that he wasn’t selling the team. I wish one of his sons would step up and start learning the ropes so someday he could take over the reins.

That is a very good point
I don’t know that much about Alzheimers disease, or if he actually has it or if it is just normal memory loss, but I do know that it typically does not get better with age.
