Australian meanderings: Just some opinions!
Hey Guys,
This is just a post on our Broncos and around the league and my opinion on them. totally tongue and cheek, a little flippant but hopefully will elicit some lively conversation.
Check them out and have at it. Enjoy!
- Brett Favre: How does a 40 year old tractor driving red neck with a bung arm still hold so much interest in the league. I mean...seriously! Does anyone from any other team really fear facing this guy anymore. I betcha Chicago, Detroit AND Green Bay are praying that the Vikings pull the trigger on this one. And...how do Tavarris and Sage feel? No bigger indication by the Vikings staff that "YOU SUCK" when they are seriously bringing in the 40 year old hack over you guys....and Brett....get over it and over your good self.
- NFC North is now the NFC Bus Cook......maybe thats an idea. We can send all his clients into one league and then they can all implode together.
- The Denver Broncos are the scourge of the NFL......and I LOVE it! I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but the consistent bashing of the Broncos is only HELPING our cause. The players, coaches and staff are circling the wagons and becoming more close knit. The Patriots used the us vs. them mentality, and now the MSM is helping McDaniels breed this philosophy, AWESOME.
- Does anyone get why these knuckle head experts assign grades to drafts? Here's an interesting thing to do, and it is pretty mind blowing, and also leads to seeing that our draft was actually PRETTY good. Go thru the 1st and 2nd rounds and look for players you KNOW are going to contribute straight away....just try it. There are not that many definites! NO WAY can you say any lineman are guarenteed....so cross off Raji, Monroe, Smith, Oher and the rest. Wide receivers? Cross them off too....(sorry to the bay teams...well, not really!). The only positions where guys can be game changers straight off the bat are running back (hello KM), Linebacker (Hello Robert Ayers), blocking TE (Hello Quinn) and defensive backs (the Phonze and Darcel). I expect some of the O lineman to contribute, but remember guys like Clady, Thomas and Long are exceptions rather than the rule.
- Kyle Orton.....love the guy. The more I hear him speak, the more I think the biggest part of the deal was getting Orton basically for the cost of a 5th. He is focused, careful with his words and a team leader. The best thing? He has not yet compared his arm to Elways, apparently he still likes Brandon Marshall and he has not swore at any of his players yet...so thats a start. What was that you said???...oh yeah, he has a 21-12 record as a starter playing for CHICAGO. Here's a question for all you MHR bretheren? If we got the same performance from Orton that we got from Jake with out the glitz of Cutler would you be bummed? I would be stoked!
- Is it just me, but who likes the fact that all our new rookies are well, spoken professional athletes.
- If brains were dynamite Solomon Wilcots and Adam Schein could not part their hair! They are the leaders of the Bronco bashing.....and the funny thing is it used to make me angry. NOW? Its just laughable their lack of knowledge on our team. They interviewed Rod Smith yesterday, and tried to get him involved in bashing the Broncos. IN ROD WE TRUST!!! He had nothing but good things to say, and said Eddie Royal is his guy. I wonder why they cut the interview short?
- Dont underestimate Josh McDaniels. There is a lot more to him than meets the eye.
- Is it just me, but does it make any sense when pretty much every expert says that Denver drafted great play makers but universally pans our draft?
- Defensive line....lets break it down......out of these guys who has played NT successfully in the NFL? Raji, Brace, Taylor, Hill, Gilbert, Fields. If you answered Fields, you win. Why would you trade up for an unknown commodity like Raji, or reach for a guy like Brace, when you have guys already in your camp that have player NT and DE. I will defer to the judgment of Mike Nolan, who brought Ronnie Fields with him, and who probably knows more than the Pete Priscos, Adam Scheins and John Claytons of the world. By the way, Chris Baker was the best CFA pick up by any team.....he will be as good as any NT that came out this year. in fact, he is the only NT that played in a 3-4 front.....oh, and the only DE to truly play in a 3-4.....Rulon Davis......and he played 5 technique the whole time.....and gotta love a marine!
- I was watching some highlights on www.denverbroncos.com and saw Chad Jackson....that guy is built like a brick outhouse!
- Ryan Harris's comments on the defense inspire confidence. Just by praticing against the best O line in the league, our defense already has a step up.
- Did not Carolina trade their 2010 1st rounder for a 2nd. Where's the hoop la surrounding that!
- Does anyone really think that Chicago is really an NFC threat now JC is there? It is liking having a rocket launcher but no rockets! No weapons, no O line.....wow, good luck with that. Jay does throw good in bad weather, but who is he going to throw it to?
- This just in....Kyle Orton has a pretty good arm!
- Question: Who made who look better? JC or the weapons around him.
- Hands up who loves Peyton Hillis? McDaniels, McCoy and Turner are licking their lips with what he and Moreno bring to the table. Add to that mix BM, DG, Sheff, Stokes, Royal, Quinn, Gaffney, Jackson (who I think will blossom this year) and McKinley.....hands up who believes we have the most lethal offense in the NFL. Oh, did i mention the O line?
- Apparently we missed some tackles last year at LB and DB. Maybe that might have been one of our biggest problems on D. That, and bringing in veterans from injury before they were ready at the expense of rookies that actually handled their assignments!
- I have a feeling in my gut we are not done in Free Agency yet.
- Tom Brandstater is a beast of a man...he could be the future Bronco fans!

Regarding #3, I maintain my position
that the downfall of the franchise began when the MSM began talking alot and favorably about the Broncos. Those MSM types LOVE them some Jay Cutler. He really is the media golden child. The fact that he was in Denver just annoyed them because they couldn’t laud him and bash the Broncos at the same time (although the lousy defensive play allowed them to do a pretty good job of it).
- is a great question. We shall see this season whether Royal, Marshall, and Stokes put Jay’s stats up, or vice versa. At the very least, maybe Marshall won’t drop Orton’s passes the way he did Cutler’s zingers.

boydy awesome post as usual
If I may, some responses to your points:
1)Is Favre turning out to be the NFL’s version of Willie Loman?
2)Bus Cook — you can almost spell his entire name (James Bus Cook) using the NFC North team names.
3)Isn’t it supposed to be us vs them?
4)MSM, need we say more?
5)Jake the Snake, Kyle the ____________? (He needs a cool nickname)
6)Nope, I like it too
7)Wilcots and Schein have brains? (Just kidding, of course they have brains, if they didn’t . . .they’d be dead)
8)Wild ride here we come; more fun than Disneyland rides.
9)Ditto #4
10)No breakdowns for the DL this year, we’re gonna rock the opposing teams.
11)Brick outhouse — just can’t get rid of that image. LOL
12)Definitely
13)You answered your own question in point #3
14)Chicago WILL be a threat, people are just looking at the wrong end of the standings.
15)He has two of them, in fact.
16)How much of Jay C’s good look was due to lack of a running attack?
17)Top 5 in points scored this year — 13-3 Baby!!!!
18)Gee, is tackling important? go figure.
19)When in doubt, go with the gut.
20)In a few years, people will be saying “Which Tom B?”
Pray for the best, prepare for the worst, and hope you come down somewhere between the two.
Nice B....thanks for the reply!

Great as usual Boydy!
Thank you for adding some clarity! I read the post article from Armstong today and it didn’t make me very happy! Everyone is putting Raji in the HOF already. Why does everyone think we would see an immediate return on DLine picks. They never play right away, case in point…weren’t Dorsey and Ellis supposed to be can’t miss prospects? I can’t recall hearing eithers name at all last year, and correct me if I’m wrong…the Chefs D was worse than ours and the Saints were right there too! Just my opinion. If recent history tells us anything, Impact rookies play HB, LB, and DB.
Armstrong's Piece
was terrible, he entirely missed Fields, he ignores UDFAs and then he holds up the NE line as an example. News flash to Armstrong, they were all 1st rounders but they weren’t all taken the same year.
Some points:
6 and 8 are great points.

This Post is Outrageous
I have a real problem with this post. The TITLE!
Australian meanderings: Just some opinions!
Within this post I don’t see ONE “g’day mate”, “you call that a knife,” or reference to “Ned Kelly.”
Why this post could easily have been written by an American. The fact that it is well written and accurate only adds more fuel to the fire.

I am a thin guy... but I love me some chocolate milk shakes.
In Australia… a milk shake is just chocolate milk. I kept ordering them all over looking for decent ice cream. I was thinking what a bunch of watery goo.
My point? We need more authentic posts by our foreign league.
If only I could have learned the difference between a shake and thick shake …. while learning about the broncos.

I took a good buddy of mine who is an Australian working in Louisiana to the Outback Steak house (ya I know). Funniest thing was that the waitress sat and argued with him for about 10 minutes on the pronunciation of the word kookaburra.

Orton
I think this guy gets it. He is a team first payer who understands the QBs job is to convert first downs, get the ball in the end zone and WIN GAMES! Cutler, for all his physical tools, did not do any of the above often enough in his time in Denver.
Bring on the 4-12 predictions, hopefully all of our 2009 opponents are thinking the same way as they prepare for us.
I was thinking the other day

Well heres my thoughts
1)Im with you, Favre should have stayed retired when he left the Packers. All he is doing is removing the prestige from his career.
2) I think Bus cook is Playing the game Monopoly with players and teams. He’s trying to get all the green properties,(NFC North) So when anyone passes he collects alot of money.
3)Agreed
4)On Nfl.com they have Moreno and Ayers as top 5 imediate impact players in the league, but gave us a B-. Obviously they don’t read their own posts.
5)Orton will have smiliar stats to Cutler this coming year, but with less interceptions.
6)Happy there too
7)Just how long until there on are badwagon, saying they liked Mcdaniels and his moves all along.
8)agreed again
9)Same answer as 4
10)Not sure about our dl, but can’t be worse than last year
11)I’m just happy Denverbroncos.com got rid of that old intro to the videos. Those planes drove me crazy every time I wanted to watch a video, so loud.
12)Harris has a good point, but dont they play our practice squad mostly?
13)Carloina is boring to talk about
14)Jay will improve there O, but Chicago’s D is suspect now.
15)Hard to believe people saying he has a weak arm, HELLO he plays in the NFL nuff said.
16)They made each other look good
17)Hand is up
18)No more Nate the arm tackle Webster, already an improvement there
19)Don’t know whats left out there but Bly, so your guess is good as mine
20)I have a feeling he may be are franchise too

I made reference to the Carolina double standard elsewhere
I wrote about how John Clayton totally pans the Broncos for trading a 2010 1st for a 2009 2nd, but explains away the same thing from the Panthers on another forum. I got lots of noise-makers whining about our trade up to get Smith, arguing that it’s not a good comparison. But it’s hugely apt. This sort of trade happens all the time, but we somehow are stupid for doing it. The funny thing to me is that Carolina traded their first rounder for an ‘undersized’ DE, and we traded ours for an ‘undersized’ CB (though there are plenty of examples of successful smaller CB and DE in recent NFL history). Somehow Denver screwed up but Carolina got good value.
How will this offence rank in scoring?
Top 5 I say, how about you guys. I try to be objective but it’s tough to be looking at this offensive talent. What will the MSM say about Orton then.
I agree Lisa!

Yards(2nd) lower Scoring(16th) Higer
If we’re in the top 10 of both I’ll be happy.
I'll take a stab at 13
I know this might be construed as negative, but so be it. I believe the reason no one has any problem with Carolina trading next year’s first for this years second is that they are perceived to be a good team. As we all know, the MSM thinks the Broncos are terrible, and have not done anything to address that porous defense (to which I answer an emphatic BULLSH*T!!). So the conventional thinking is that Carolina’s pick will be in the 25-32 range, which, I guess, is fair value for a second round 33-45 pick, and that Denver will be terrible and surrendered a top 10 pick for the number 37 pick.
I can’t wait for the Broncos to shock the World. By ‘the World’ I mean anyone who subscribes to the MSM point of view. Of course all of us here are already drunk on the kool aid and can feel that we’re going to be way better next year. For myself, I’m still not sure our record will reflect it, but I think the team itself will be better and, more importantly, COMPETITIVE.
Love your post Boydy, but I wish you’d cheer up a bit. :D

The musings are outstanding
Its funny to sit back, stop listening to the talking heads and actually realize HOW MUCH the Broncos have done and how they have improved

"We should have kept Seattle and dumped San Diego from the Division"
Davis and Sharpe to the Hall!
Offense is clearly improved, Defense is more murky, Special Teams couldn't get worse
I definitely think that the offense will be able to control the pace of the game a lot more with the stable of backs we now have, and I think you would be hard pressed to find a deeper receiving corp than what the broncos are fielding. The O-Line was amazing last year and shouldn’t have too much to learn for this year.
On D I think its impossible to argue that we haven’t improved at the safety position, corners seem about the same to me. The linebackers seem promising to me, especially the little nibbles heard that doom is doing a pretty decent job converting over so far, but the line is still a giant question mark, and if the line can’t hold back the blockers, the linebackers can’t get to the point of attack, and we have another season of the secondary making all the tackles.
Kyle Orton's got a arm?
Well, we’ll see about that. All I hear is how he is weak armed, or he’s got a rag arm, well we’ll see dag-nabbit. Oh by the way boydy….Great Post, and Ga-day! 13-3 baby!!!
Weak arm?
Didn’t he just OVERTHROW Eddie Royal in last week’camp…. some 50 yards downfield?
Maybe his problem in Chicago was throwing over all those defensive linemen in his face on every play. That tends to alter trajectories I hear.
When Cutler is constantly under pressure he has a tendancy to either fumble or throw picks. His honeymoon in Chi town could be shorter than he is planning on.

Of all of your points....
..it is one of the subtle points that makes the biggest impression on me. These young men are all professional in the way they present themselves. Calm, smart, efficient, level-headed, well mannered and not self centered. These are the kinds of men that enter special operations forces, and (perhaps) the same kind of young men that build championship football teams.

Also...
Hillis and Moreno are going to storm the NFL this year…I don’t even think the coaches realize how crazy good these two can be together. Everyone will soon find out, we are going to have a monster running game. Our offense is going to be unbelievable, and soon these stupid critics who have no idea what they are talking about will be wondering how and why they bashed our team.
When you look back at drafts, the star players automatically pop out at you, when people look back at this draft they will realize how unfair it was that we got 2 maybe 3 out of a half dozen star players…
And Chad Jackson did look like a big man in that interview…I agree he’s about ready to explode on scene!
Anyways, thanks Boydy!

Failing to plan is planning to fail.
