Brett Favre is a little man...
My Packer fan friends are furious over the recent news... Since it's the offseason and things are a little slower I thought I would share the thoughts I shared with them with you all.
What it all boils down to is Favre's not considering his legacy.
He was one of the greatest packers ever and had none of this bullcrap ever happend, Favre would stand among the packer monoliths untouchable - a legend. Nobody would remember Ted Thompson or harbor any ill will toward him or Favre.... A football hero , right up there with Lombardi and Lambeau... But this was/is not to be. You see Brett Favre is a little man...
Farve reached down from on high a plucked a veritable unknown person (in the eyes of the monoliths), Ted Thompson, and said, "You... I will show you that you are a jerk face". Like a high powered executive that made the poor descision to pick a fight with the guy who bags his groceries, Favre did not elevate Ted Thompson to his monolith stature. No, Favre climbed down from his pedestal into the deepest gutter and started poking a guy in the chest that in the long run nobody would ever remember anyway, in the process alienating every single person who put him there. You see, Brett is a little man...
How little? I suspect he will be the first person to be roundly booed at his HOF induction... Perhaps to the point of interruption...
Let's take a moment and get on our knees and thank the good lord that John Elway never tried any of this crap with us. My sympathies are mildly with Green Bay on this one... With 23 (estimating) people in the HOF they have all the room in the world to let one of their greats fall from grace....
Brett should be and shoulda been smarter.

I agree
I am glad Elway just called it quits the way he did and didn’t try and come back like Favre. Favre has become a joke in the NFL. It’s sad to see a hall of fame quarterback try and hold on to his NFL career after he is clearly washed up. Favre’s last five games, he averaged a 55 passer rating with the jets. He doesn’t have enough in the tank anymore.
If he comes out of retirement again, does that mean John Madden has to come back for one more year?

Honestly, this doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, I kind of admire that Favre is ‘ignoring his legacy’ for his love of the game. I know many of you will see it differently, but I love his passion for the game and can empathize with his struggle giving it up.
If this had been Elway would I be pissed? Of course…but it’s not and so I’m not. ;-)

I just don't buy that he's doing this for the love of the game
I think he’s doing it for other reasons, which is why he retires after each season, only to make the ‘grand’ announcement that he’s coming back for one more try because he ‘loves the game’. I’m not buying it. If he truly loved the game and just wanted to play, he would’ve stayed with the Jets. This is all about Brett, all about making a splash, notice how it’s only being mentioned now after most of the NFL news has died down?

I don’t buy the ’he’s just trying to get attention’ argument. He’s never really seemed that way to me. I think he is genuinely ambivalent about whether he should play again or not. At the end of the season, when he’s still sore and bruised it’s easy to decide you should quit. However, after he’s healed and the other players start reporting to camp he starts longing for the game again.

I agree, poster
If Favre wants to play again and some team wants him, let him do it. It’s not about fan’s reaction to his “legacy” (bfd) or anything else except a talented QB who loves to play the game, and got sent away from Green Bay, where I expect he’d rather be.

I would have bought the
“love of the game” argument hook, line, and sinker up until the point I found out that the common link between Cutler and Favre is Bus Cook. The situation smells of rancid butterscotch. I think Brett Farve DOES love the game. I think he IS haing a genuine struggle trying to give it up. The fact that this struggle is public? Follow the taint straight to Bus Cook. Wow… that really smells BAD!!!

The difference between...
…Bus Cook/ Cutler and Bus Cook/Favre is that Cutler is a kid who can be dominated by Cook. I don’t think Cook can call the shots for Favre. And the public thing? How could it not be public? Favre asked for his release from the Jets after they drafted Sanchez, and he was released. The media got all over it, but I don’t see anything anywhere that indicates that Cook played it up.

Poster I tend to agree with you--its not about attention...
The sad thing is I don’t think Favre ever put in a plan for life after football. Its too bad he didn’t make some sort of arrangement with Green Bay to be employed by the team, in some compacity, for as long as he desired.
Kinda like Rod seems to have done with Denver.

It's not about attention or love of the game...
It’s about revenge. Favre wants to jam up Ted Thompson and in so doing Green Bay and their fans. In 30 years nobody will remember Ted Thompson, but they will remember what Favre did.
Sad but true.

Can't be
But Bus Cook said that revenge isn’t the reason. If bus says something, you have to believe it’s true, right???? lol.

I actually kinda hope he does come back
because he will be sailing the FAILboat all season in Minnesota. THey will win plenty with AP, but when the running game gets shut down, he will be exposed for sure.
Loser
I don’t want breakaway speed. I want break-some-poor-fool-as-I-bowl-you-over power getting 6 yards off a play that should have been stopped for 2 at most.

I agree with the post
But I love this. I so hope he comes back, so that we can witness his down fall one more time – it is the perfect tragedy of the king who commanded all except time. A great man who refused to recognize his own mortality, and whos advisors won’t tell him, because they too want a little more time in the spot light. It is a tale of a media circus gone awry with enough journalists beeing so enamoured with him, that they won’t let his ego down.
I for one am just going to sit back and enjoy the performance, with the inner peace and familiarity that comes with knowing how it all will end.

I would rather just watch good players play good football.
If Favre isn’t gonna play well, he shouldn’t play. There are lots of qbs out there that could play at a higher level than Favre. I would rather watch them play than an aging qb, well past his prime.

There isn't any.
Football isn’t about drama. A few years ago when TO was doing sit ups in his driveway, we witnessed drama. Weeks later, the football season started and we witnessed football. I am a “football” fan. If I want to watch some drama, I’ll watch House.

Speaking of house........
Anybody know what happened with Dwayne Carswell??? After his injury, we didn’t really hear much about him. On the NFLN the other night, they had the 2005 AFC championship game and Al Wilson led the huddle and said, “1, 2, 3, HOUSE!!!!!”
What ever happened to him?? Is he doing alright???

Imagine if he does play for the Vikes...
the old black and blue division will be headlined with two drama-queen divas in Favre and Cutler. Classic!

Brett Favre passes gass
You know it’s really not Favre’s fault that I’m so sick of him. He is so over covered by the MSM and STR (sports talk radio) every time he does anything that I switch channels immediately. When he gets inducted my main memories of him will be of an aging average QB. I won’t be able to stand to watch his speech. Broncointheville you have it exactly right and I don’t care if Favre loves the game or not, Elway had class.

I hope he comes back simply because..
It makes the media frenzy around the Cutler deal less prominent.
Lord knows it’s going to be hashed and rehashed ad infinitum unless some other story pops up!
And isn’t it ironic that Bus Cook is at the center of a QB drama yet again…..
A proud prognostication of 10-6 in 2009!!!
