This offseason has already been incredibly difficult for Bronco nation. So many are conflicted after Shanny was dismissed and shocked when a kid was brought in to run the team...then there was the old Jay Cutler drama (I do not care for the McJay Gate nomer). What comes next? Something that may be coming to a head this week.
It comes in the name of Brandon Marshall. It has now been stated that he is expected to be in Dove Valley on Friday for the mandatory mini camp. BM has stated he wants more money and has put up some incredible numbers the last few years. There are just a few big hurdles in the way. BM is demanding more money at a time that Josh is setting the tone of team first, he is coming off another offseason with an injury story (freak arm accident last year and hip surgery this year), and he is still mired in legal issues that could result in another suspension.
I know that, like QB's with amazing arms, 100 catch a year WR's don't come around very often. The question is this, is BM worth all of his issues right now? Some follow on questions: Is he worth big money when he could be suspended for a long time if/when something else happens? Is he as reliable as you need your #1 WR to be? Is his hand fully healed now, and if not will it ever be?
I have thought about all of these questions and although I feel that BM is a good man inside I don't know that things will work out for him long term and I don't know that this team needs a distraction that he will create. I think my mind was made up when we were in the middle of a game with playoff implications, the game was incredibly close and he makes the move to pull out a glove to celebrate in a situation that a penalty could have lost us the game. He doesn't think through his actions and that is not a good mix for the new offense and team mentality.
In the end I think that because he has been cleared from the last incident, and he is yet to become a hold out issue the time is right to trade Brandon Marshall. Just had to get the thought out there and I think we could get some great talent in return. In the end he has too many issues that are unresolved and dropped too many passes last year to be rewarded with a big contract.
On another note, with Casey talking money right now and the fact that he is closer to 40 than 30, is he going to play for us this season? Would the Broncos be lost without him?
