Have to ask again: Why cant we have 53 Rod Smiths???? Eddie Royal is a great start!
Hey,
Just got off the Denver Broncos website. Some great interviews with Jedi, Royal and.......ROD SMITH.
The interview with Rod is right here.
Firstly, listen to the asinine questions that he is asked, especially by the female reporter at the end (probably Lindsey Jones). Rod handles them with aplomb, and a deserved laugh at the last question.
BUT....the most interesting part of the interview is the advice he gives to Brandon Marshall. I suggest everyone listen to the interview, and I suggest to that knucklehead Marshall to heed the advice too.
Another thing that Brandon could watch is HOW you become a team leader, and HOW you be a team player. Watch Eddie Royal's interview as well, and you, like me, will thank your lucky stars that he is with this team. What a consummate professional, for such a young guy, and is an example to Marshall of what a Pro is.
I often wonder whether there is some jealousy on Marshall's part because of Eddie Royal. I hope he understands this is just making Eddie stand out more, and his reputation to hit more.
Anyway, great interviews!
Wish we had 53 Rod Smiths....or 28 Rod Smiths and 25 Eddie Royals.
Peace!

Why can't we have 53 Rod Smiths?
Maybe we can! Didn’t they clone a sheep in Scotland? It’s just a simple somatic cell nuclear transfer away (or 53 of them to be precise).
"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!

53 x Rod Smith = success!!
Boydy,
Heartily endorse your comments.
Like most Bronco fans, I loved Rod from the moment he made the team and grabbed his first pass from The Duke. Why is it that fans always take to the unappreciated or under the radar players? Maybe we see a bit of ourselves in their struggles to get noticed, I don’t know. But what I always loved about Rod – and it’s happening less and less in all sports across the globe – was his humility and dedication to being the absolutely best professional he could be. Not like half of these prima donna football (UK!) players, who seem to command astronomic salaries and give less than the required effort. Nope, that’s a charge you could never level at #80, and I feel fortunate to have watched his career with the Orange from day one.
In response to your thread though, it seems like we are developing that sort of attitude – possibly with the exception of BMarsh (unfortunately – and I really can’t imagine losing both him and Cutler in the one offseason – but I don’t want this to become a rumour!). Eddie Royal, Peyton Hillis, Ryan Clady, Spencer Larsen, Alphonso Smith – from what I hear and read, they all seem to at least have the right attitude, and let’s face it, most of the athletes playing in today’s NFL are at a similar level, so it’s things like attitude and offseason dedication and preparation that make the biggest difference in my eyes. And no-one encapsulated maximising their talent more through dedication and application than Rod. We could do a lot worse than cloning him as PosterNutbag suggests!
Viva la Broncos!

Nobody can say that Rod hasn't been there
He took the “Path of Most Resistance” to success.
With the 12th pick, the Broncos select Knowshon Moreno - Roger Goodell
That'll move the chains - Andy Samberg

A team of 53 Rod Smiths is McDaniels' plan
Look at the character guys McD is bringing in… It’s no coincidence. Win or lose, this will be a team we can be proud of.

I think you're right
I think that is Josh McDaniels’ plan. He made the most of his second chance.
But who will guard the guards themselves?

+1
We can have 53 Rod Smiths but you have to be willing to recognize and reward player character even at the expense of some physical talent that comes your way. This is the new MO I think.
Tis better not to throw it to the deep receiver but the open receiver.

Brandon should talk to Rod
I think that BMarsh would be back in training camp pretty quickly after a good talk with Rod. I love Eddie Royal, he is just so mature and professional, and I think he will be one of the best receivers in the league soon. I wish Brandon acted like him, so we would have no problems and then the team could start working together and dominating.
"Really, I'm a high-motor guy. Tough, hard-nosed, a hard runner, can make you miss at times. And just competitive. I love to play the game and I bring that energy to my team. So, we'll see how that goes." - Knowshon Moreno
Knowshon Moreno is the boss!

The twists just keep coming.
What if BMarsh thinks (maybe he has been told by McDaniels) that his role would be smaller this year compared to last? jay may of had the same feelings as BMarsh only earlier. The ego these players have is phenomenal, and i am not saying that BMarsh has an ego or anything close to it. But,what if, and the question was raised he can’t get over the fact that he might not be the center of attention next year? Just a thought.

This is a unique sitution to be in if you’re Brandon Marshall. It seems everyone wants to offer their advice without being in the room when things were discussed. There’s always so much more to the story than what we hear and if a player is having discussions or a "stand off’ with management teams that govern the nfl-they normally have a valid reason. There is no such thing as a team that doesn’t have any problems most just don’t make it to the outside world.I still support him and look forward to him playing-regardless of where he may land. Players should be heard on their jobs just like anyone else and if Jay couldn’t work with Josh I don’t fault him for that. He had the right to move on and find a place where he felt he could be heard. Marshall should have the same opportunity- if he feels its needed then move on. I’d rather have a player leave and go find happiness than stay and be miserable. They make more money than most of us, but they have some of the same work issues that we have. No one knows what is exactly going on in the front office of any franchise so I want players to be able to get their problems resolved and move forward.

And then there is the advice of Rod Smith who says......
Honor your contract and get back to work………….I think Rod does know a few things about NFL football that most of us don’t.
One is: this doesn’t last forever, your reputation Brandon isn’t good, your are physically damaged and have no leverage. We understand you have had 2 great seasons but your decision making ability including the TV incident is now what stands in your way. There are consequences to your actions and right now you need to let those things subside not create another controversy and hurt your own reputation even further.
