Some points for Brandon Marshall
Brandon,
My friend the world of football is your playground. You have a chance to be a legitimate threat in one of the most potent systems in the NFL. Your payday will come, I am assured of that but do you want your payday to be with a legitimate franchise such as Denver or would you prefer the cyst that is the oakland raiders? Lets look at the facts my friend...
You came into the NFL a fourth round pick. You were paid at the time as such and have been given EVERY opportunity to earn your next paycheck. You have seceded in becoming a true #1 Wide Receiver as far as talent. However your off field concerns leave a lot to be desired. That being said I have faith in you until you don a different jersey! Your current attitude about wanting out or getting paid is a bit disturbing. I am sure your agent is telling you Denver is screwing you this year money wise. No doubt his Ferrari's insurance is about to expire and that is what caused this but none the less there are some facts you have to look at:
Tender amounts as of 2009 Free Agency:
Low tender – right of first refusal & original draft pick – $1.01 million
Middle tender – right of first refusal & 2nd round pick – $1.545 million
High tender – right of first refusal & 1st round pick – $2.198 million
Highest tender – right of first refusal & 1st and 3rd round picks – $2.792 million
Low Tender:
this is less than you are making now. If the Broncos offer you this one it pretty much screws your payday. No one is going to give a guy 10-12 million a year who was offered a low tender by his original team. they may offer you five million but then Denver can match that offer and keep you and then you get in a Chad Johnson or Anquan Boldin Situation. Not a good Idea plus there is no real incentive for Denver to go any higher because you are fourth round pick and they will get it back.
Middle Tender:
Again less than you are making now, and not a lot of reason to offer you 10-12 million. Plus your team is willing to part with you for a second so there are concerns from a team why.
High Tender:
This tender is about what you are making right now. Remember you want more than you are making now so this one can end better because a team is more likely to give you 10-12 million at this stage but they also would part with a 1st round pick. If you get tendered this one helps your cause the most.
Highest Tender:
you DON'T want this one cause it almost guarantees you stay in Denver. no team is going to pay you 10-12 million AND part with a 1st and 3rd round pick. the risk is just too much.
OTHER THINGS:
if you want to be traded can you pass a trade physical? that's a hard hurdle to overcome. What about your court date? do you KNOW how it will turn out? What about a possible suspension? I think you already paid for it but that is besides the point! Do you KNOW that you will not be suspended?
I am all for you getting your payday but you need to do it the right way. Look at how Casey Weigmann and how he handled it. He let management know he wanted a new contract and came in did what was asked and got his pay day. Jay, your buddy ol' pal, did something similar, wanted a new contract and then complained and complained. That turned out less than satisfying. Don't alienate the best fan base in the NFL, stay a Bronco!

I would never have any clients
I would say honor your contract and we can discuss an early extension but if they say no then just play your heart our and earn it.
There is a proper way to go about it. Personal experience:
When changing jobs my employer offered me the same thing the new employer wanted to. I told the new employer they would have to add to the deal for me to switch. I didnt say I wont come out or I wont work as hard as i can, I just said if you want my services than you have to up the deal because I KNOW i have another option.
Brandon knows he has other options but they may not pay what Denver will/would for his services

I never even though of the fact that he's not likely to pass a physical.
Great point, Jon!
I think that the idea of him remaining in Denver just became a little more concrete.

Jon, I hope you sent a copy of this letter to BMarsh via the Broncos or whatever way you can.
I agree with UB3, there has got to be something else going on. Right after the pro bowl, BMarsh was all sunshine and roses and excited about working with the new coach & getting back into practice, then without warning he’s wanting more money or a trade and saying goodbye.
All along I’ve been in the keep him & hope he’ll play & if not, sit him camp; but the more I read & look at the timing & the way this has all come out, I’ve come to believe there is something seriously wrong going on inside BMarsh’s head, and the Broncos would be best served by getting whatever value they can for him in a trade, and let him become someone else’s headache.
Pray for the best, prepare for the worst, and know you will come down somewhere between the two.

Ever think of this?
It could be a woman messing him up. Past or Present. Hanging around with people that want “Their money” and just want to “Get Paid” (Rasheeda Watley). That kind of mentality tends to rub off on others, i.e. peer pressure. Maybe Rasheeda and her parents are trying to Blackmail BM behind the scenes. There IS some speculation that this could be happening. I have no proof though, its just a thought. Perhaps this is a reason why he seems to need a big payday.

I know peer pressure is real (I am a youth worker) but to that extent the only one I can think of is his agent

Could he be getting blackmailed???
Think….seriously….it all changed since just AFTER the ESPN segment.
Why, all of a sudden, is he asking for money NOW????
He cant be that BIG of an idiot….he nows he has NO leverage what so ever and is even lucky to still have a career. SO much in this deal makes NO sense!

I hope he stays and performs well...
But he’s got to WANT to be a Bronco……no if’s and’s or but’s.
A proud prognostication of 10-6 in 2009!!!

I want him to stay.
But they way he’s acted, I won’t freak out if he leaves. I think Jon has laid everything out pretty well. Let’s hope someone with some sense (and not just an agent with selfish motives) is talking with Brandon. Rod Smith has a great track record, and would be an excellent guy for Brandon to talk to. So would Dawkins, and several other vets and retired stars.
I learned (in everything I’ve undertaken since about age 30) that our elders are the ones we should really give some weight to. I hope Brandon learns this quicker than I did.

that is what I am talking about. You NEVER saw Rod, TD Elway or Sharpe hold out and they had a right to do so an proven track record and NO off field issues

I have been Brandon's biggest apologist from the beginning...for some reason I just see a big-heart in the kid.
To tell you the truth, if this is only for a contract extension I would like to see us sign him. I cannot do the, ‘Ashley/Javon’ comparison—they never even touched the foothills of the mountain of potential Brandon could achieve. Nobody at this sight can tell me that Brandon is not a warrior once the game starts—yet all of us saw the drop in yards-after-catch halfway through last season—enter ‘the hip’.
I still think, sadly enough, that the issue is the hip….I really do. I may be totally wrong but I think Brandon knows that ‘his hip’ is going to shorten his career. I don’t think his ‘Outside-Football’ conduct will even be an issue the next four or five years. All of us have watched Brandon ‘grow-in-maturity’ this last 18 months—once this next trial is over I don’t think you’ll see another. Brandon is ‘falling-in-love’ with working with and helping kids in the community—this will become Brandon’s life outside of Football.
However, if I am wrong, and this issue is about fame, money, and the want of both—if fame is transforming Brandon into another Terrell Owens—I say we give him the ‘Left-Footed-Fellowship’ and cleanse the house.
I hate to say that, would hate even more to see it………….but I would rather have a clean house.

If playing Chess, with Brandon, I’d sign him.

Obviously he's a great player, but there may be other "issues" not mentioned
For example, this snippet from another site’s discussion, which correlates what I heard at the time about the Darrent Williams killing:
“Woody (Paige) knows exactly what I know about that nightclub deal because we both got the same info from the VERY Cops who talked to ALL the witnesses. It WAS NOT Walker spraying the crowd that started the tension. Long before that Marshall went into a rage when some of the gang bangers of one gang were jawing the Broncos for blowing their playoff chances against San Fran. A bar brawl broke out and It damn near all went down right their and then, according to witnesses. Walker and other Broncos literally had to subdue Marshall and take him out of the club. The tension from that one incident, according to witnesses, lasted all through the rest of the night.
As a matter of fact the cops were inches of holding Marshall accountable for the bar brawl. Which police still feel was the catalyst that led to the shooting.
That’s why the whole thing leaves a bad taste in Woody’s mouth when it comes to that night at the club and Marshall, and quite frankly Pat Bowlen may have some issues with Marshall about that night as well.
There is more to the story of D Will the cops told me I never posted on this board due to peoples emotional connection with Williams. I will say this for Williams, the cops told me it was Williams that almost single handed calmed down the entire club that night."
I know this is all hearsay, but this does jibe with what I heard at the time, and may have something to do with why he feels he needs a new start elsewhere…

Marshall better start acting like a professional and get on board.
“We are very excited that we were able to negotiate an extension for Casey Wiegmann,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “The professionalism and leadership he showed throughout this process was outstanding. He was here every day working hard during our mini camps and conditioning program. Maintaining the continuity of our offensive line was a big priority for us, and we are very fortunate to have a Pro Bowl center like Casey Wiegmann as part of this organization.”
Nice job Jon
