Beating a dead horse!!

Brandon Marshall career stats- 46 games 226 catches 2,899 yards 15 TDs

Roy Williams career stats- 70 games 281 catches 4082 yards 30 TDs

I've been reading a lot about the BMarsh situation as of late like the rest of us. Most people are saying that we should trade Brandon if someone offers a #1 for him. I do not believe a #1 is enough for a WR when on the field is a top 5 WR in the league. If the Lions got a #1 and a #3 I think that is the starting point. Brandon is right now better then Roy Williams will ever be. Brandon has the  potential (dirty word) to be the best WR to have ever played the game. I think the best case for both parties is for Brandon to swallow a little pride show up at camp and prove to everyone he's growing up and his legal issues will become a thing of the past. If Brandon plays like he's capable and stays out of trouble off the field Mr. Bowlen will have no problem paying him. So if by some off chance Brandon Marshall were to read this my advice would be prove yourself then get paid!

He's very VERY good...

but a LONG way from being the best that ever played the game (that’s some elite company you’re talking about). I agree with some of your comments about the situation and what Marshall should be doing, but your assessment of his skills, and his on-field performance and stats for that matter, are a little too generous.

umm

a first round pick would be a great trade for the broncos

considering his off the field issues

no teams going to trade a first round and another pick for marshall

Agreed...but I think he will end up being a Bronco!

We agree on these points Whidbey...

I know you and I don’t see eye to eye, however I don’t see Brandon as even close to being the “best to ever play”. He’s got a long way to go and from what I’ve seen, Jerry Rice, etc. are pretty happy at the top of the “forever” pile.

I also agree that they should give Marshall a new deal, with one little amendment:
Any legal trouble within the contract terms would void it completely and Denver could cut him without losing the millions they would owe him otherwise

Yes, he has outplayed his current deal. However, if he screws up one more time, he will probably be suspended at least 8 games.

I think both of you should read (or reread)....

both of Guru’s posts regarding the Brandon Marshall situation (as well as some of the underlying user comments).

There are some issues covered in those posts that both of you are overlooking, regardless of your viewpoint. I’m not saying either one of you is right or wrong, just that the situation is a bit more complicated than your comments make it out to be.

There are a few WR;s who have scored more points than Marshall in their first 3 years,

but jay might share some of his inabilities in not getting the ball to him. And you can’t discount the dropped passes on BMarsh’s behave either. The greatest, well has attitude must change before he’ll ever achieve that status. If Jerry Rice could be his mentor then maybe.

Did not say he is the best WR to play

I said he has the POTENTIAL to be. The guy is what 24 and has had 2-100 catch seasons in 3 years. After the first couple weeks last year people were talking about him as the best WR in the game. 18 catches against a pretty good SD backfield is not a bad day at all.

Yes, we did surrender the picks for Roy Williams but it was alot easier considering the 2 players, unfortunately, have different backgrounds off the field. BMarsh is also injured so I don’t see a team surrendering those type of picks for him. They can probably get good compensation, but not a #1. As far as the money is concerned, if you need him to further prove he can play, then he needs to leave. He’s already proven it and should be given his money that he has already earned. I don’t blame him for wanting to “cash in” now because he needs to get it now because the odds of the same numbers this year may be alot slimmer. I wouldn’t doubt Jerry Jones coming after him, but you wouldn’t get a #1 pick out of him. You may get a #2 and #3 instead and maybe a player.
