Totally
I never realized that those two were close or how Lenny felt about it all. Seems like a good guy.

Funny
What I find funnny is that Kiszla says that the Bronos need a change, yet change is making us “faceless”. Can you say contradiction? Then he mentions how the Cowboys are buzzworthy. What have the Cowboys done recently to make them more buzzworthy than the Broncos? Once again the MSM makes me laugh. Peace!

Don't know how a fair a comparison it is, but this immediately reminded me of the Dolphins' No Name Defense.
I guess the Cowboys (does anyone else have the problem of spelling that Coybow on the first try?) have a bunch of superstars, whereas you look at the Broncos’ off-season and we pretty much got some unknowns (barring a few big names like Moreno and Dawkins) to fill out our team. But, like that No Name Defense, having a bunch of superstars isn’t required (or even necessarily recommended) to go undefeated, just a team of solid players, regardless of what their names may be.
But like you say, Dallas hasn’t done very much lately (I remember reading that they’ve only won one playoff game in the past ten years, but I’m not sure about this), although being a big-market team like the Jets (and having superstars in your uniforms) is probably why they keep getting touted every year.
That said, the Broncos aren’t “faceless”. Unlike last year, this isn’t the Jay Cutler Gunslingin’ Über-Yardage-Gainers, but a team of hard-workers and high-character players. Or, as I prefer, the Good Guys.

To me, the disturbing part is
that the Broncos have had more drama this offseason than the Cowboys. I guess Wade Phillips is passive enough to avoid any confrontation. I’d like a definition for the word “buzzworthy,” because my understanding of it indicates the Broncos have been nothing but since December, and I don’t like it. Dallas can have their buzz back, as far as I’m concerned. Let’s fly under the radar and Shock and Awe some folks this season!

That Kiszla piece is so stupid that it's almost beyond words.

Actually Ted
I have emailed for years with Mark Kiszla and he is really not being critical at all. I emailed him this morning and he told me he was expressing what hears a quite a few Bronco fans saying to him. I obviously told him my take which is similar to everyones take on here. He says he agrees with that for the most part. Next Sunday he is going to quote some of my remarks in his blog. He also told me he is totally into seeing McDaniels turn this team around.
The face of the Broncos now is Poise, Passion, teamwork and character. I am excited about our team and the respect it will be given.

The "Fire McDaniels" bumper sticker, while not entirely unexpected, illustrates a new low.
I’m glad Kiszla didn’t agree with it.

Thx JB
With the lack of effort and imagination that Kiz showed in that column, he’s proved that he’s fully qualified for a government job. USAjobs.gov, buddy!
Kizla quoted Shanahan saying the new coach would be “crazy” to overhaul the offense. -Not surprising, since that was just conventional wisdom. But that’s also why he was fired, for letting his wisdom become too conventional.
And once again both the Gazette and a comment in the DP regurgitated that McWannabehoodie dismantled the #2 offense… The #2 offense until they got into the Red Zone, at which point they became a number two offense.

Don't forget
That number 2 offense became the number 27 after week 2 or 3. That whole thing took up a life of its own, without the least bit of actual facts behind it. Absurdity at its best.

re: 'a team without a face'
Maybe not next year, but I firmly believe that the face of this franchise over the next decade will be Knowshon Moreno. If he can stay healthy, he’s got both the talent and the personality to become a superstar.
by Hobnail_Boot on Jun 21, 2009 11:02 AM MDT reply actions 0 recs
Wait are you saying
You would rather have a guy with the character of Knowshon Moreno be seen as the face of the Broncos rather than a Coke smuggling, blunt smoking baby maker like Travis Henry?
Where are your prioriites?
:-)
Thank God Bowlen, Xanders and McDaniels are restoring our respect!

Eyes Without a Face. I hate that song, but not as much as that Kiszla piece.
An RB as the face of a franchise for a decade? Highly unlikely. Too much injury risk. And besides, how many RBs are the face of a Super Bowl winning franchise? I’d have to go back to Emmitt Smith to think of a time that happened (those teams had a boat load of stars).
A QB, coach, or great defense is always the face of the franchise. At lease any franchise worth a sh**.
Knowshon would be a smashing success as a Bronco if he gave us six years with a few Pro Bowls. The problem I’ve always had with drafting RBs in round 1 stems from the fact that every year teams find RB studs all over the draft (TD, Forte, Slanton, Sproles, Westbrook, Jacobs, Gore, Portis, Jones-Drew, W Parker, M Turner). You don’t see nearly this many star QBs, LTs, Safties, CBs) taken in the later rounds.

Ridiculous
“Never in the 25 years of Bowlen’s reign have the Broncos been so devoid of personality”.
Kizla’s complaining in the dead of the baseball season that the Broncos have no personality. McDaniels hasn’t even coached one game, and already the verdict is in that it’s a faceless team. Give me a break. Stalwarts of the way the Broncos were? Since when? Last I checked, we’ve been pretty mediocre since 1999; and you can’t tell me that the team had much more personality with Brian Griese, even when Rod Smith and Mike Shanahan were there. Jake was a stud and was at once exciting and aggravating to watch, but Cutler’s weird press presence never said “Denver Bronco” to me. Kizla’s commentary betrays sentiment below the surface that actually translates into “I want my John Elway back.” I love the fact that we as a city of fans will have a “team” instead of betting the house on individuals year in and year out.

It is a faceless team...
I think Kizla is right. This team at the moment has no defined identity. We all have proven this to some extent by offering up various identies from the coach to the defensive secondary. It seems that even for us fans, the Broncos are the proverbial Elephant and the 6 Blind Men. We are looking at the same team and seeing different identities depending on our own point of view.
A team with an identity doesn’t have that issue. A team with an identity tells the viewer exactly who it is. The best identities even get catchy nicknames.
However, an identity is not bestowed; it is earned. We have a team that has a huge turnover, changed coaches and strategies, and we have never played a game with this new team. Ever. Until our team shows up and plays, we don’t have an identity. Sure, as many have said, we have potential, but potential does not pay the bills.
Where I disagree with Kizla is that at this stage, given the observations above, that at this point in time, to expect this team to have a face is ludicrous. We don’t have an identity and at this point, we shouldn’t. He wrote an article that overstates the obvious. Must be a slow news week.
Wherever you go, there you are.

The face is apparent to those who study.
Kiszla states that Broncos fans don’t know their coach, don’t know their QB, etc. If he would do some analysis (like Broncobear, Guru, or TedB, or others) and report THAT, perhaps fans would begin to discern an identity, and a pleasant one at that! Sadly, plain ol’ facts tend to make for poor ratings.
I agree that it is too early, and we should watch the guy coach for a season or two to see what ACTUALLY happens, instead of making decisions based upon rampant speculation.

How does David Ramsey, or anyone else, know
that the Broncos defense is “porous”? The Colorado Springs Gazette writer is likely basing his opinion on last year’s defense. With all the new faces, and old faces at new positions, even the coaches said they didn’t know what they have. So how does anyone else know?
