The Straw that broke the camels back
As a loyal read of the MHR for at least 6 months, I have agreed with most of the members on here about how much BS the MSM puts out everyday. But yet everyday I would find myself going to the Denver Post online to read whatever garble they would produce about our Broncos. The only reason why I would find myself reading these pointless articles is because I am so ready for broncos football, that I would read just about anything.
But today it ends, after reading the article about how the broncos have no face on the post, I am finished. I just can't do it anymore, it's painful to read such garbage. It would be nice to have sports writters who actually SUPPORT the hometown team. The worst part about it, is the fact that these articles are backed up by the most negative "fans" ever. How could anyone possibly say that this team has no face, have they never heard of Eddie Royal, Ryan Clady, or Peyton Hillis? How about Doom? Do they not read all of the positive things that come out of Doom's blog? And does the MSM and these other "fans" honsetly believe that McDaniels is trying to sabotage the broncos? When McDaniels was the QB for the McKinley Bulldogs in Canton, Ohio, he missed an extra point against the bulldogs arch-rival, the Massillon Tigers in the school's 100th meeting (the game was being covered by SI, it is one of the biggest HS football rivalries in the country). When reporters interviewed Josh's dad, Thom McDaniels, the head coach of the bulldogs, they asked him how is son reacted to missing the extra point. Josh said that he was glad that he was the one that missed it because he knew he was strong enough to bounce back from something like that. The bulldogs went on to beat Massillon in the state playoffs that year, they were beat on a McDaniels TD pass.
Now does that sounds like a guy who would try and sabotage our broncos? No chance. This guys wants to win more then anyone. It's just frustrating because all we heard was how great of a job Coach McDaniels did at the broncos fan fair. Now two weeks later, everyone is blaming him for Marshall being upset about a contract.
I will be the first to admit that this has been a trying offseason. At the same time, it has been one of the more exciting offseason's I can remember. I think this team has more "face" then they have in a long time. Even the 2005 playoff run was built around quick fixes and over the hill free agents. We actually have a team now that is going to play for the name on the front of the jersey and not on the back. This is a team we can get behind because we know they will work.
The Broncos are going to surprise the MSM and the common "fan". This will be a year we will all remember for a long time.

This has been to problem all along, as far as the MSM is concerned.
They can’t tout games as “Cutler and the Broncos” vs. “Peyton Manning and the Colts.”
That is, they can — but Kyle Orton just isn’t sexy sounding, and there’s no Urlacher on the Broncos’ defense to fall back on.
It’s all about THEM. They aren’t really upset about what the Broncos are doing. They’re upset that this uppity McDaniels punk has taken away their shorthand.

The question is, Vandy
How much do you REALLY value their opinion? There are many opinions HERE that are more acute than most anything you find in the MSM. Expunge the trash my friend, while you still retain sanity.

Good post MHR girl.....we're very glad to get the "chick" perspective!
MSM = unbridled stupidity + anger + boredom + “0” accoutability! That’s all it takes, no wonder so many uneducated, foul mouthed, no class idiots frequent the DP blogs. It’s their only hope of getting attention in an otherwise hopeless existence…
Keep the koolaid cold and sweet…. I’m about to really start gulping it down in the coming weeks… I’m in pre-training camp conditioning right now! I’ll be in shape by late July! God I miss football, oops time for another glass of the blue & orange beverage of choice! Mmmmmmmmm

We love you back, Valley grrl
lol. Love the mode of communication.
I understand the general feelings. I’ve finally gotten to where I can read that foolishness to see if any actual news is hidden in the column and not feel any response to the writing. Hating is popular. It’s easy – it doesn’t require research, thought, insight or skill. and, as more of a comment on our culture than on the actual writing – it sells. If it sells, they will continue with it.
I read all of the new posters, articles like our new contributing coach in wt’s article today and am utterly content. You can’t change what others do, but you can improve on it. We, as a group, a cohesive whole, consistently do. It’s quite enough for me.

MSM
I realize I shouldn’t care what the MSM thinks and for the most part I don’t. It makes me laugh whenever I hear Solomon from NFL Network and John Clayon from ESPN talk. But what really bugs me is when the Post bashes the broncos. Ever since the RM News what under, the post has been completely un-accountable for what they write. Having no competition allows them to write whatever they want. Then people outside of Colorado see that the Denver Post is trashing the broncos and they all just assume that what the post writes is the opinion of the true bronco fan.

Vandy if you have to read their "Garble",
then “gargle” your mouth out with with a little Jack and Coke. That seems to take the bad taste out, but still leaves a lingering nasty thought to hang on to.

Krieger refered to the 'propoganda' coming out of Dove Valley...
..a couple of days ago. So when your local guys are desperate enough to call ‘no comment’ and ’we’ll handle that internally’ propoganda, you can be reasonably sure that the bag of easy spins and stories is getting painfully low. In short, they’re starting to act like the herion addict that doesn’t have a spoon left to scrape.
Don’t count out the fact that the MSM as we’ve come to know it is a dying animal. A cornered animal bites, and I would expect more of the same before its over.
I also don’t think its as much up to the individual writer anymore anyway. Krieger has changed noticably since changing rags. Part of this is business driven. All they have left are the trolls and you can be sure they’ll pander to them.

Very true...
real journalism is on the decline and that’s in all aspects of the job. To be honest, I know Woddy Paige can be a little off the beaten path sometimes, but I really believe he is the only person who covers the broncos that has his or her OWN opinion.

Regardless of what he says..
it still ends up being his own opinion. I read Woody to get a good laugh, that’s about it. But at least you are not going to read what he wrote anywhere else. He could have written an article about how B-Marsh is attending his own camp haha.

Being "nuts" is only an illusion of one's own mind.
People that are crazy (nuts) don’t even realize they are in that condition. Some of them may even think we are nuts for acting the way we do. I read their garbage to get information only, and that sometimes is also slanted to meet their fancy. Kind of like picking your teeth after a great meal, take the good tasting chewy ones and spit out the bad ones.

It's true
As so many perceptive fans have noticed Josh McDaniels is indeed trying to ruin the Broncos. Put yourself in his place. All he has to look forward to is 16 games of intense pressure, always being second-guessed. If he can ruin the team and get himself fired for incompetence before the season even starts, he’s out from under! Wouldn’t you do the same? But in trying to make it look good he may have gone too far and miscalculated. What if, after foolishly retaining the entire offensive line as well as the running back and line coaches, after bringing in a QB capable of spreading the ball around and the best RB in the draft, after extensively upgrading the secondary and restocking the defensive line, the Broncos turn out to be more formidable than anyone could have guessed? In that case he’ll be forced to endure the entire 17-week regular season, maybe even the postseason. Bet you didn’t think of that, McSmartypants. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

That's a new one..haaaahaahaha...
The guys a football team builder for sure, if he was remodeling a house, it would be like he tore it down to the foundation and rebuilt it. I have seen this done, and they looked like a brand new home, better than the one before.

I like your metaphor about remodeling a house...
I used to remodel kitchens and bathrooms, and pretty much every job we did the customer would ask why it was so messy and ugly right after the tear out. They wanted it done instantly and it doesn’t happen that way. Then a week or two goes by and all of a sudden they are in awe of their beautiful new granite countertops and stainless appliances. McDaniels is just remodeling. The foundation of pride and decency are intact, he’s just installing new fixtures and appliances that are more efficient and do the job better.

Good Post Vandy,
I agree this has been a trying off-season—this will be my 49th year of following the Broncos—and its been one of the strangest I’ve seen. Keep in mind, however, that I spent the first fifteen or so years watching the team lose or barely breaking .500. The flip side of that is the Broncos have been a team of respect for over thirty years—maybe that’s why we fans love them so much. For me the Broncos were a team I loved because I love the Rocky Mountains….and after a handful of frustrating years—they didn’t let me down.
I also agree with you concerning McDaniels….this guy wants to win. I have also been impressed with how he’s faced all this adversity. When asked the tough questions about the happenings with Marshall, or whatever, he immediately brings the conversation back to football and building a team. I like that—this is what’s been missing the last few years—pure ‘football talk.’
I think we are going to be the “Surprise” team in the NFL this year. Let the MSM go their way—they are lost.

Funny you mention McDaniels adversity throughout the offseason...
The MSM says he’s making his players question themselves as well as his motives. If I were a player I would admire how much he believes in what he’s doing no matter what the naysayers think and I’d follow him. A guy that’s THAT sure of his system, coaches and players, along with a history of success goes a long way.

This may sound strange but McDaniels is reminding me more and more of Shanny when he came in as a OC under Reeves. Especially the way he wants to be ‘very involved’ with teaching his thoughts. I really like what is happening.

Reminds of me of Shanny coming in as an OC here AND when he came back as the head coach. And that turned out pretty well I’d say. :-) McDaniels is on the right track and will have this team back at the top, where it rightfully belongs, quicker than many think.

Most teams can be identified by 1 player
Romo and the Cowboys, Tomlinson (or Rivers) and the Chargers, etc… while the MSM is lacking in good information lately, it’s not like their comment isn’t valid. Denver isn’t easily tied to a star other than Bailey. A lot of people can connect them to Royal, but he’s not yet on that premier level. Cutler was and Marshall is on that level… I wouldn’t read too much into the “face of the team” comments, but there is something to it. These new Broncos have a lot of change, we’re not sure what their thumbprint on the football field looks like yet and we’re hoping someone like Moreno can be the new face of the franchise (in a positive way).

maybe we don’t have someone that the rest of the country recognizes as “face of the team” type player. But the article was in the denverpost! I don’t expect people from the east coast to know who Ryan Clady and Peyton Hillis are, but there should be more respect from the post.

Holy Cow!!!
The Wilcots piece of NFLN sets a new standard for shamelessness. Dig the footage of Kyle Orton rolling left and throwing…I mean did I really just watch an employee of the NFL’s own network ignore reams of file footage in order to prove the weakness of a right handed QB’s arm by showing him trying to throw while rolling left?
Did I really see that package and sold as a final product for public consumption?
Is there even a line left between check out line journalism and what we call the MSM?

I wish I had Access to Footage
I would make a video all about checking down and mirror it to look like this ESPN production. This would be my dialogue:
1st: Here we have Cutler, drops back, excellent protection, looks at Marshall. Realizes Marshall is double covered. Waits, still looking at Marshall. Ok now the other defender follows Cutler’s eyes and moves to Marshall so he is triple covered. Finally, Cutler throws to Marshall, jump for ball and ball knocked away.
2nd: Here is Orton, drops back. Looks for Hester, realizes Hester is running wrong route. Looks over at blitzing linebacker who comes free at him. Finally, looks to Forte, dumps the ball off while getting hit to Forte. Forte runs and makes solid gain on blown play.
Conclusion, Orton is a million times better than Cutler. Brilliant deductive reasoning there.

I agree with you that we will remember it. I am not so sure, however, that it will be a year that will compare with 1977.
